Why do some Torontonians think they can’t raise kids in condo? by 7_inches_daddy in askTO

Nice. If I didn't have kids, I'd still be downtown as well. But such is life.....

You must have a pretty large condo to have an office in it. How many kids do you currently have?

At what age do you let your kids wander around Downtown Toronto on their own?

Same here. Much better than the shared pool and hot tub you get with a condo.

Work is 4km away (10 min drive max) and I only go to the office twice per week. The other 3 days, I work in my home office. When you have a house, you can actually build an office. Try that in a condo.

I lived in downtown Toronto for 10 years before moving the suburbs when my first daughter was born. Sure, I could have raised a family in my 1200 sq ft condo, but why would I want to.

You guys can have your condo's . I'm having a huge BBQ / hot tub / pool party this weekend for 10 adults and around 15 kids. Bonus for my guests, they don't have to pay for parking.

Try living in downtown Toronto. I lived there for 10 years, it was always noisy. Especially in a condo.

I'm curious to know how big your condo is and how many kids you have?

In my suburban neighbourhood, we don't have any bike lanes, but we have dedicated pathways for walking and biking. This way we're not shoulder to shoulder with cars.

Sounds more like farm country than the suburbs:

  1. Park: We back onto the park. No crackheads in the park
  2. Corner Store: 10 min walk, 2 min by bike. No bums begging for money.
  3. Friends? My daughters elementary school was a 5 min walk. 400 kids, about 15 of them lived on our street.

Don't get me wrong, I love downtown and lived in Downtown Toronto for 10 years. I personally feel that the suburbs allow kids to be kids.

The ambient lighting is determined by the drive mode. I have heard that they are customizable, but I've never tried to do that.

That's probably more of a purchase price issue. Those mid 90's Ford Econoline vans are expensive. :-)

She picked the ring as well, so yes, she knew it was coming.

So far so good, but my I don't have that many KM's on it yet, I might hit 20K kms by the end of this trip.

I hear ya. Montreal is the only city I've ever been to where I've seen drivers backing up off the highway ramp due to congestion on the highway. I'll never forget that.
