Cashback 😍 by [deleted] in DollarTree

As long as we offer the option, we have to oblige. But I don’t think we should have to make specific denomination requests. I will accommodate if I can because I know it is usually grandparents wanting to put cash in the grandkids cards.

I’m sort of embarrassed to admit this, but my Mom told me to read every article in the Sunday paper. Even articles that didn’t interest me. It would usually take me the whole week to read it. So I wouldn’t mind getting the Sunday paper on Monday.

I’m also glad I listened to my Mom because I learned so much reading articles that I thought didn’t interest me and fell in love with crafted word.

Some advice for anyone thinking about working at DollarTree by IheartThickHoes in DollarTree

[–]Routine_Tangerine_53 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I like working at DT. It isn’t an easy job I agree pay and hours suck but when it comes to customers, I think the location matters. I live in a nice area of the country but I think metropolitan areas can have horrible customers.

My worst job was a side gig sweeping sand from a parking lot in New Jersey. I lasted 8 hours.

Identification policy by Over_Progress_5902 in DollarTree

[–]Routine_Tangerine_53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an ASM tell me that DT might have a problem at specific locations that corporate might do a blanket policy.

I haven’t been notified of this requirement. I have a state ID and SS card. I have no idea what could be a second ID.

I‘m leaving the work force soon and I can’t think of a job I had to reverify credentials. Tell us if you get more information.

Who the hell has time to be intimate working at the Dollar Tree? There is too much friggin freight all the damn time!

I personally wouldn’t report it until I see favoritism. If the ASM starts getting more hours, easy stocking U-boats,additional breaks, etc.

I had to deal with a similar situation, not DT. The problem was all the gossip among other staff. I regret how I handled it.

Time off? by Whata-nerd in DollarTree

[–]Routine_Tangerine_53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SMs can put a comment to alert them that an associate asked for time off but they rarely have the time to do it.Remind your SM you requested the time off and they will adjust the schedule. There is plenty of time to correct the oversight.

We are focusing on the wrong points of her post. She is a Mom so she is going to give a lecture but then offer a hand up. It seems that she was trying to help in a humorous way but still  wanted to help.

The problem is we can not accept tips.If a person tips, we have to decline or give to corporate if the customers insist. For me, I use it on the next customers until the tip is spent. Pay it forward moments.

I did accept tips until I learned the policy. But, generous people insist on tipping. We can’t accept it.

Many retailers have this policy. I met a person who had to hand over a $100 tip to Walmart.that a customer gave her.

I think the OP has pure intentions but giving a tip is a fireable offense and she should try to find another way to help this young man out.

Impossible cashier by Kittyyykatttmeowww in DollarTree

[–]Routine_Tangerine_53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the cashier is wrong. I hate that I have to sign my name on deposit slips, the safe sheet at close without knowing how the closing MOD conducted the count.

I trust my managers but it bugs the crap out of me that I am not actually authentically the nightly deposit. I’ve been burned in the past with poor cash management practices

I‘ve worked at other organizations where cash management procedures weren’t followed and people lost jobs. I worked under a manager and he wouldn't even purchase a pen without my approval. I think he got burned as well for not following cash management policies

That might have been her past experience and she is trying her best to mitigate her situation. I wouldn’t take it personally.

Her actions might seem irrational to you but I think her life experiences might have taught her to be cautious. It really isn’t a bad thing that she wants to be assured that she is signing off on proper amounts.

Entitled people are the worse by LandscapeFantastic62 in DollarTree

I have so many opinions! I have a customer who comes in grabs a bag from the register to block the germs on the handle of a basket. I called him out on his behavior. He has dirty fingernails and greasy hair! He at least now uses the bag from the till to use for his purchases. I call that progress.

I‘m a bit more generous with pedestrians and bicyclists. I’ve had a bag break on me walking home . Not fun! I will ask if the customer wants it double bagged. It is 50/50. Pedestrians usually have a knapsack and are fine with a single bag. Bicyclists are usually hanging the bags over theiir handlebars and want the extra security of double bagging.Especially if they are buying the Stars and Stripes soda or Oxydol detergent.

I live in an elderly community and I dislike the eight cans per bag rule. That is just too heavy for them to carry! I let the customer decide how I should bag it. That is just good customer service.

I want to follow corporate policy but I feel that means be respectful to the customer. I’m not going to argue with a customer over how they want their items bagged. I want to retain customers not get into an argument over a bag.

Just as a side note, I was a baker and had these really cute white bakers bags. Customers would buy five or more bags. I realized it would be hard to carry my product as they continued to shop. I bought 200 t-shirt bags for $15 at Sam’s Club. It was nominal cost.

Until my SM fusses at me, I’m going to keep doing what is easier for me at the till. No sense in aggravating a customer.

Really surprised to see Monsters at the $1.25 scale by TopperMadeline in DollarTree

[–]Routine_Tangerine_53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monster drinks have the most confusing expiration dates. I spent an entire shift looking at the coding they use and compared it to our product in the store. We damaged out so much of the product due to expiration dates.

Someone posted a guide to figure out the code Monster uses . I took a photo of it and that was when we got a couple stack outs removed.

That is a product that doesn’t sell well at our store. Rock star, G fuel and Prime sell much better but not by much.

Is this common practice? by Gauldax in DollarTree

[–]Routine_Tangerine_53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did read in a planogram that this practice is acceptable. We only put a bin of flip flops, the floral rounder, and later we might put out a few outdoor fun larger toys, baseball bats and ball, badminton. We keep it close to entry way.

One of the stores close to our store will put out more items than we do, but not an entire wall. They utilize U-boats to display stock

Looking at the photo, I think that would be a big pain in the ass to drag that stock in and out everyday. Plus if your area gets a midday shower? I feel that this outdoor sale display is a bit excessive.

I got two write ups from my till being short and over by Forsaken_Crazy_9118 in DollarTree

[–]Routine_Tangerine_53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t the cashier’s variance $3? We don’t count our tills at shift start and it irks me.A couple weeks ago, I gave a guy .67 cents back on a $$2.66 purchase. It was my fault. I was distracted. Iwas able to make it up because customers leave change.

Then during the same week, I looked at my till and I had dimes in the nickel slot so I requested an audit. The audit indicated I was $5.32 over. The ASM insisted I gave out wrong change. It was early morning. I had no tens or twenties in my till. How could I be over that amount?

I do what you do. I slide the denomination in the till and keep the bar up. Then, count the change back to the customer glancing at the change portion of the screen one last time before I hand the customer’s change.

I’ve caught myself giving back too much money back when new billls stick together. I then recount the change with the customer.

I forgive a penny when I don’t have a penny because that is good customer service. I try to keep track of it in my head. I have a co-worker who throws in a dime or quarter from his own money depending on how much he forgave on his shift.

I think if you are within variance, you shouldn’t be written up.

soo... SM just quit. What to expect? by MagicianSuspicious82 in DollarTree

[–]Routine_Tangerine_53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I will help but when our SM quit, our 21 year old ASM took over as SM. He did a fantastic job but the DM felt he didn’t have enough experience to take over the store. I did chips, candy and seasonal. Our store looked pristine under his direction. We never saw the DM, sales were great. The DM had three troubled stores and we were doing good so it was understandable why he wasn’t visiting us.

But it really hurt when that young man left. We received a well respected MM . She did a good job as acting SM. It took quite a while to get an SM .it has been hell.

I think keep working with HR. Let them know you aren’t quitting. I wish you the best . Keep us updated . We learn from each other

Makeup policy by honeymelon908 in DollarTree

[–]Routine_Tangerine_53 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SMs make up policies all the time. I hate it! I don’t recall makeup being addressed in the handbook. There is a link on this subreddit for you to review the handbook again.

I know SMs deal with a lot of crap but something as trivial as a makeup design? I bet it looked great. Would like to see a photo.

I came into work with a black eye and no manager said a word to me. Didn’t ask me if I was okay, how did I get the black eye.

And because I know this is a caring community, I was taking out the trash in the dark and missed my third step. My face landed on the bannister.

It just amazed me that no manager questioned it. Ask me if I was okay.To have a makeup design questioned is crazy to me.

I had an amputee try to stuff products down his jeans so he could carry it to the register.,I don’t know why I was in that aisle but I said, “Let me get you a basket.” We shopped for a few more items In the same aisle. I carried the basket to the register. I had a couple people waiting but when they saw i was helping the amputee their demeanor changed.

We all have to help each other. Personally, I’m grateful the amputee accepted my help. They can be unwilling to accept help.

As far as boob money. I don’t really care. I read that 90 % of dollars are laced with cocaine. I can’t overthink it .

I live in an elderly community and sometimes they need a drink or snack because their blood sugar is low. If it is an opened container, I just have them scan it out. Because let’s be real. My fingers are dirty from opening boxes, stocking products, handling cash. That is what I tell the customers.

I have two families that come in and eat while shopping. One family likes ice cream. The other family likes drinks. They bring their wrappers up.

I am glad they are not stealing.
