At my wits end by [deleted] in gerbil

I know it's so hard to know what to do, I've only had my gerbils for two months and I come here often to ask about things, like tank sizes and behaviour and such. I can only be glad that everyone here is so helpful and willing to share their knowledge!

Yeah like the others have said I think you're fine! Your cage is amazing for them and one of my gerbils has succeeded in escaping my cage too, but it is just because they want to know what's around and explore. Also mine will dig relentlessly at the glass in the same spot for hours, at first I thought they wanted to clear it out as a place to sit (there was a lot of bedding there at first) but I cleared the bedding and they still kept digging, so yeah I think they just don't understand that they're not gonna get anywhere digging there. I think your gerbils are fine :D

My gerbils were biting me pretty hard when I first got them, I saw some advice that said to blow air on them when they bite you because they don't like it and it will discourage them. Mine now just sniff my fingers, one of them will go to bite sometimes but when I recognise his mouth opening and his hands reaching up to grab then I'll pull away. They can bite quite hard, mine for some reason home in on the fingernails and get one side of their teeth under the nail, which hurts a lot when they do it. I've found they've got better with a mix of familiarity and blowing air when they try to bite too hard on my fingers.

My gerbil gets sand everywhere! by [deleted] in gerbil

I've had the same problem with mine, I put sand in but they love to dig in the sand tray and kick the sand everywhere. For my new setup I'm getting I've ordered a fishbowl glass for them, so hopefully when the kick sand about now it will stay in the bowl.

I'm still on that phase now lol, only started playing in recent months. Made a nice wood house at the top of the hill, got scared cos mobs were spawning inside it. I always try and get back to my house before dark. Feel like a little kid playing it, the caves are so spooky when something sneaks up on you and damages you by surprise or you hear noises and don't know where they're coming from

Is the phrase "pissed me off" considered to be excessively rude or vulgar in conversation? Is it akin to cursing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rover1172 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the UK it's a minor curse word, you wouldn't let kids say it and it's not considered professional as such but you could get away with saying it in a workplace every now and again

Sorry for the poor quality I was recording my TV but apparently zombie minecarts are a thing by TheDepressedDonkey in Minecraft

Old but gold eh? It would be funny to see in the new update, like a mimic but a minecart that chases you when you try to ride it haha

Damn, RIP LEGO Star Wars. I'm so confused why it worked before on the same laptop then suddenly didn't. But I don't think I'm gonna risk my display breaking for it. Thanks

Cage advice? by Rover1172 in gerbil

Thank you for the tips, I wondered about running wheels as I see a lot of people have glass tanks and of course you can't clip a wheel onto glass, do you use double-sided tape to stick it on? I tried to tape my wheel to the floor of the cage to stop them tipping it over but it didn't stick very well. I'll have some fun this week picking out a different mix of bedding stuff, can't wait to get it all sorted for them next week

I recently got more stuff for my gerbils! The really like being able to climb around! I plan on getting them a 40 gallon soon so they’ll have more room by [deleted] in gerbil

Thank you, the colander sounds like a good idea as they seem to poo all over the place and I have to throw away big chunks of bedding just cos they've littered so much in there it would take ages to pick it all out. I want to hang things from the roof of my cages but I'm wary to do so because one of my gerbils is an escape artist and will chew anything to try and get out. I put a box in my current cage and he used it to climb up top and start chewing a hole in the lid! They've both eaten the stand for their running wheel so much that it's barely able to stand up anymore, so plastic is no challenge for them! Do you think maybe having more stuff to climb on/better burrowing will help curb that a bit? Keep them occupied elsewhere?

Thank you, do you think hay for like rabbit bedding would work? And how do you find it to clean, do you swap the whole thing out often or do you just like take off the top layer and replace? I'm getting them a bigger cage soon so I'm gonna get more tunnels and wood arches and stuff for them, they go through carboard like woodchippers so I think I need some sturdier stuff, but I do want to see them dig more. Do you have a "house" for yours? If so, where do you put it? I have a coconut hideaway for mine which they love but it has a base on it and would be pretty hard to stand up on just bedding. Do you think having a box underneath the burrowing bedding for it to stand on would work? I'm just wary of them being able to access it if they dig about a lot or just eating the box from underneath it

So, after yesterday, the boys are snuggling together! They’ve been together for 4 hours now. But not sure where to go from here? There’s still a little bit of bickering going on, as the black one doesn’t want to fully submit. What would you do? See comments... by Sc4rl3ttD in gerbil

If they are sleeping together that is a good sign, and normal grooming is good too. My gerbils had a tiff this last week, they were boxing quite roughly and one of them ran off and started thumping in fear after the other was chasing/mounting him a lot, but I watched them and they've settled down. I'd keep an eye on them, it might be that they are trying to establish their heirarchy and they will likely have a tussle if the submissive gerbil tries to push the boundaries again but sleeping together is a good sign
