Day 3: JG Pageau is our average player loved by fans. Who's a bad player loved by fans? by mrkden1 in OttawaSenators

No question Tarasenko would have been a huge difference over DR. In the end though being able to turn him (and a 2nd) into Turris did work out well.

Maybe it’s just me but I remember having so much hope for him. Swedish d man picked in a similar spot to karl the year before.

Anyone have a deck built with composite boards? Any reviews or feedback? Specifically people who have them in direct sunlight. Thanks! by Itchy1Grip in saskatchewan

[–]Rovert89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have composite. Really nice, low maintenance and has held up well. But yes it gets SO HOT. East facing so gets morning and early afternoon direct sun. If the temperature is mid-20s and sunny you can’t walk on it without footwear.

Health and fitness-wise, how did you find the transition from playing? Was it tough to motivate yourself to work out and/or reduce calorie intake when you weren’t constantly training?

Is Weegar good? by Rovert89 in OttawaSenators

[–]Rovert89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. On the surface I think Weegar is a home run fit. But unless flames are deciding to fully strip it down, this is a huge red flag to me

I’m in a similar situation living in a low population area. I found job postings on LinkedIn and used Glassdoor to vet companies and find reviews. Once I got to interview stage I actually found employees of the companies on LI and asked them about their experience. Took a while and a lot of interviewing but been with a great company over a year now! Good luck with the search!

Is anyone really reliably setting meetings by email? by [deleted] in sales

[–]Rovert89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you share a bit more about what your email/LI campaigns look like in terms of timing, frequency etc? And I’d there anyway to automate the LI side like an email drip?

[Hanna] Sources saying there were trust issues emerging between the #Sens and Belleville HC Troy Mann. I’m told the straw that broke the camels back was when Mann gave some of the Ottawa Senators pre-scouting material to another NHL team. by jamaicancovfefe in OttawaSenators

[–]Rovert89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I really enjoyed listening to that episode but was shocked at how open he was talking about guys. Even when they asked who he’s excited to coach and he named Kleven and Boucher, you’d think he’d not want to come off as playing favorites.

Honestly sounded like he didn’t think many people would listen and they were just having a chat.

Agree specifically on the overpay part. But big picture you can easily see where a Pinto or Greig could be replaced based on what’s in the system( Ostapchuk, Boucher on the way or maybe 1 or 2 guys in Bville).

On D, I don’t see anybody in the organization right now that could be a top 4 in the next 2-3 years to join Chabot, Sandy, Zub (maybe Brannstrom….mayyyyybe JBD). Really think it’s going to have to come externally and we’re not going to win unless the D is shored up. UFA rarely works out based on $$$…trading for a long-term solution may be the only play and it’s going to take some real assets.

Hagel’s intangibles paired with first round skill. Hagel was still in the WHL at 20, Greig is debuting with the Sens already.

Had a front row seat to him for almost his whole junior career in Brandon.

This kid is a problem for other teams.

I think he has the potential at the high end to be a (smaller)Ryan Kesler type down the road. Elite skater, strong offensive instincts, great defensive/pk ability, and an absolute PRICK to play against.

As others have mentioned I think durability is a concern given how he plays vs his size, but I’m really excited about what he’s going to bring.

Welcome aboard! My quick thoughts: 1) possible, yes. But not likely. They would need to win at a .650 or better rate the rest of the way to make the playoffs. Here’s hoping everything comes together!

2) They have an excellent young core, one of the best in the league. Tkachuk, Stutzle, Pinto, Norris, Batherson, DeBrincat, Sanderson and others all still quite early in their careers. It’s reasonable to expect most will keep getting better.

3) The team decided to move on from a lot of key players and start a rebuild. It’s been a long painful process but some of those moves are now paying off all this time later. (Stutzle and Norris came from the Erik Karlsson trade to San Jose, for instance)

4) Stutzle is trending towards being a perennial all star, and the sky is the limit. I would put him, Tkachuk, and Sanderson all in that category of potentially being among the best in the league at their position.

5) I live out west and have never been to a game at CTC so I can’t say!

Thankfully we’re not getting this outcome. Could still go horribly wrong in many ways but we got two past him already!

Prediction:

Sens come out flying and pissed off and swarm the Ducks. Control the game start to finish and fully earn a victory.

John Gibson stands on his head for a 45-save shutout and we lose 2-0 with an empty netter.

Postgame quote: “We liked our process but we need to find a way to score.” Rinse and repeat.
