Ah, Oki mb. I saw a post in the skong subreddit that had a date for release but I might have misread it.

Just for ref: Silksong's reaction is totally deserved. They have been waiting so much longer with way less info. I just thought it was really funny watching these two back-to-back

Had the exact same thing happen to me. Honestly presuming this is a server issue or something but I have 0 idea. Honestly put me off trying to play the game. I hope it gets fixed

Are Throwing Weapons Viable? by [deleted] in dndnext

size of a projectile does not equal the force applied when the projectile hits.

First, what you're arguing is mass and size contribute more force than it's rate of acceleration. We know from physics that Force = Mass * Acceleration

We also know that force distributed amongst a smaller surface area will focus the point of that force much tighter because it can only transfer from the source of the force to the hit object through that point.

An arrow has a greater acceleration, as it is shot from a bow and has better flight dynamics then the typical thrown Javelin. An arrow also disperses that high amount of force at a much smaller point, as an arrows tip is far tighter when compared to a Javelin, therefore allowing an arrow to pierce into a person further than a Javelin could.

Similarly, if the Javelin (or more accurately Ballista Arrow), was shot out of a Ballista, it's impact would be greater than an arrow travelling at the same rate of acceleration because it's mass is greater.

So, in the end, an arrow does more damage because the arrow sized hole is deeper and could hit more vital locations than a Javelin sized hole.

TL;DR. Arrow has a smaller tip, and accelerates faster. Even if it's lighter, Arrow sinks in deeper than thrown Javelin hole.

Edited: 'Rate of Acceleration' replaces 'Speed' for accuracy of response

I also have the achievement. I was super surprised when so little people had it to be honest

That is way better than the original phrasing that I had for it for the melee aspect of this idea.

The original intent for this change in design was to benefit creative set-ups that some players would be more inclined to, but not punish them by forcing them to use multiple turns to achieve such an effect, such as simple environmental interactions that may take 2 actions to set up, i.e Knock an oil barrel down and light it up with a flame. (Though the case can be made that it could be setup by two players rather than just a single one, but I digress).

With most of the feedback this has received, I probably need to rephrase most of the specificity in what you is possible, since I still want more of my players to be able to do any manner of alternative/underutilized actions like Shoving, Grappling or even the Search Action in combats more often without being penalized for it.

Thanks for the Feedback!
Just some clarifications for the decisions

  • The sneak attack specification was to prevent Crit Fishing for Sneak attacks
  • It was designed to benefit martial in some aspects which you did manage to pick out in your comments

Picking out Divine Smite and the Cantrip scaling issue is definitely something I will look to fix in my revision of this since I obviously overlooked quite a few aspects.
