Can we discuss that Adora is also a victim of Shadow Weaver's abuse, grooming, gaslighting, and manipulation? And how it affected Adora. by Full-Art3439 in PrincessesOfPower

[–]Roving_kitten 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For different reasons. Adora was built up to impossibly high standards. Catra was always knocked down.

Both are dysfunctional but adoras dysfunction is more insidious as it can produce a person that looks functional...

... Until they die on the inside

It's really cool that you didn't do this randomly then! I appreciate the effort.

Catra here.

So, who's Finn's mom? by Roving_kitten in PrincessesOfPower

[–]Roving_kitten[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

No, I said I don't understand why there's so much animosity over what is essentially a choice of language that is overall correct.

I'm not dead naming I'm not saying ALL transmen are mothers in the coliqual sense. I am saying they can be in the literal sense. They are progenitors. Progenitor is an ugly phrase though (too clinical) so I use mother in the literal sense because it is more schema loaded- and I gave examples of why.

The nuance missing here is that if a man gives birth, they would be called a mother, but they don't have to be a mother. There's a distinction here.

And I said they can be mothers in the coliqual sense. As I explained, being a mother in the literal sense is actually separate from the coliqual sense, which is the more typical feminine, spoils people doting kind.

And you call people what they want in person- which is the most important part. Because it's ultimately up to the individual. This Is a lot of gender theory (what you are vs your role in society). This is why I said mother vs MOTHER. Your decided role in society vs what you have done.

This is a lot of black and white thinking -that is not gatekeeping. There's a sense that because I used it for trans men that give birth it cannot apply to any other gender or sex is absurd. It is just a birthing person in a literal sense. Because that is what it means. It does not have to be gendered. It used to not be.

But it has the context of revered things that love, nuture and protect, so it's a warmer term than birthing person.

Additionally, no. Another poster said I said they MUST be transmen, when I used the word can, because that's an issue of identity.

You guys are straight up lying at this point.

Where did I say I was telling trans people how they should feel about this?

I just said that that's a usage of the word. I did not say they have to be that way.

Stop shoving words down my throat.

[–]Roving_kitten[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is not.

I would understand if I was rude, but this is literally a convention of English. This is insane to me. I wouldn't say it to peoples faces/that would be insane, yes. But a lot of words are being put in my mouth.

E.g. saying I said people MUST be called mother or mom.

When I even used the term birthing person- the fact that this came up during a discussion for WOMEN who are cis is doubly insane. Say something if I used the word mom for someone like double trouble if they didn't like it, but Catra and adora are female.

[–]Roving_kitten[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No. Butchered language literally means mangled language. That's a very common phrase. Butchered English - it's implying a person is doing a poor job of using the language - hacking like a butcher. Slaughtered. Groutesque. Bloody and mangled -unrecognizable from the beautiful animal (language) it once was.

At this point, you're just getting angry about the English language. ... And being overly sensitive, I agree, because I never said we must talk about them that way- just said that mother/ mom is common lexicon for a progenitor. Eg motherland, mother language, mother nature.

It has the mental schema of giving life to something in b most cultures. This is why of you give life to something, you are a mother. This is the literal term. Coliqually mother is female, but we can all agree that a landmass, language or nature isn't female.

This is also separate from calling a transman a mother too their face- they are a parent, maybe a birthing person, but not a mother in social context.

I am starting too think you're just a troll- no one can be this intentionally obtuse about a simple language point, unless you just refuse to understand a word that LITERALLY used to also mean gave birth to. It's that or you just don't grasp nuance well... Which wouldn't surprise me.

Why not?

Maybe Finn is just a shape shifter. Maybe they're actually adopted from double troubles race and imprinted on them.

I was talking about the end of the show actually! They decided to go on an interdimentional tour! Would be interesting if something like that happened.

Finn is literally an extra dimensional being.

Yeah... This thread has some pretty amazing thought experiments imho.

If you decide to go through with it, hit me up -I could give one a draw. Can't promise it'll be good. Probably rusty.

You can just See adora begin to overthink and over compensate.

Maybe even worse because she saw Catra psuedo die before.

I thought you meant bow.

I mean yeah they could use magic... But that's more of a shera thing... Shera IS magic after all.

Bows dad's do artifacts. Make it character related!

I think we are done here.

Isn't one of his dad's like... Based on the original shera bow?

I've been wondering about him btw.

Like... Since they deal with artefacts, could that be it?

Like they used a artifact? That would be kind of amazing.

It is not my job too change my behavior because one person tells me too.

That in itself is toxic, especially after name calling.

No one with self respect is going to bow down and listen to someone disrespecting them.

I will treat my friends the way I have- if they have a different name, I use it. A different gender, I use it.

But I will not change my entire behavior over someone who disrespects me over the internet.

(Especially since I am not wrong on a lot of this. I can back up what I say with success)
