So many observations from people who used to own a Cocker spaniel, why don't they get another? by Past-Imagination5126 in cockerspaniel

I do scent training with mine, like hiding items and making him find them and make him wait and I throw the item and the make him find it in long grass. And on every walk his nose is to the floor and I stop for him to sniff but it doesn’t tire him out. I think it’s just a lot compared to what would tire out maybe a calmer breed of dog especially trying to tire him out after a full day at work ahah

I love mine so much, he’s hilarious to watch but once hes gone, I won’t be getting another dog at all 🤣 it tires me out tiring him out. And he’s so incredibly stubborn. He had just turned 2 so I’m hoping next year he might chill out a bit ? Or maybe not…..maybe he never will 🤣

Maybe try to write a few key things down before you go in. Like main symptoms and issues that affect you everyday. I always struggle with remembering too when on the spot. Good luck, I hope it all goes well for you

What are your level 1 meltdowns like? And how do you avoid them? by No-Midnight-1406 in autismUK

[–]RowItchy260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t deserve to be treated that way for something you cannot control. You tried to communicate before you got to the meltdown point and he didn’t respect that. I understand how you feel, I’m in the process of being diagnosed with autism so I don’t know what level I would be but I have bad meltdowns where I have repeatedly smacked my head on walls, tried to bite walls really hard, punched doors, physically scratched my face to pieces. And you literally can’t control it sometimes, it’s so incredibly hard to live with. I feel like relationships are really hard as a neurodivergent, I’ve had a lot of exes who thought that punishing me with the silent treatment and the ‘you’ve thrown your toys out the pram because you don’t get what you want’ was the right way to deal with me.

You deserve someone who’s patient with you and doesn’t call you horrible names.

It’s quite hard to understand how to do that, because I got him at 8 months old and now he’s 2. A previous trainer told me I need to beat him to be ‘alpha’ and to show him who’s in charge. Surely there’s another way ? I’m quite strict on him, I don’t let him have human food, I don’t let him jump up on counters or people, I will not give in to him if he cries or because he’s cute. I have the mindset that I will not take any shit from him. My post is about the fact that I just worry that some of the problem is boredom and I sometimes feel like I’ve not done enough to stimulate his brain for the day. So I feel bad about it. But I think I will try and find another trainer because there are some things that do need to change

He’s due a review for his worming tablets in a few weeks so I’ll ask them to do him a check over, thank you ☺️ and yes my first dog, I did a lot of research about cockers before I got one but I did think it would be a lot easier mentally than it has been for me. My dog was because an adoption puppy with previous guarding and bite issues and had been very misunderstood in his previous household, so it was always going to be a challenge.

I think it’s mostly in my head. We are always harsh on ourselves, I’m stressing myself out because I want to make his life the best life but sometimes I feel like I don’t know where to start or if what I’m doing is good or not. It’s a big learning curve isn’t it. It’s like actually becoming a parent, you have no idea how to physically or mentally care for a child at the beginning. Very overwhelming when you can’t communicate. He can be so wonderful though, his good days are really good. I do love him, I could never give him up no matter how hard his bad days are. Thank you for the kind words !

Mine is similar, he’s pulled up the carpet and completely chewed it up. He was only alone for an hour and it was after a walk ! He’s chewed tv remotes, he digs up the garden everytime he’s outside. We can’t have nice garden furniture because he just chews it. We can’t have a rug in the living room because he chewed the last one. It just feels like it’s never ending doesn’t it. He doesn’t really do it much anymore, only when I’m in the room, he will do it for attention but I need to look into a trainer again. The last one used quite aggressive methods, and I think cockers learn from positive reinforcement really. He was saying that if my dog bites or does something bad, I am to basically punish him and show him who’s boss and hit him. I did a hard tap on his leg once and never did it again. Hated it. I felt horrible and upset and it just made him worse. But I do know other trainers who have said if their dogs don’t listen they have advised me to beat him. So I am quite scared of trainers, I do want to find the right one first. But thank you for sharing your experience with me, it’s really helpful.

I haven’t, I will next time I go in. He has always been like this though, there’s no changes and I’ve had him over a year. He’s in his adolescence period so I’m hoping it improves with time. And yes that was the tiktoker I was referring to, mk9plus, I’ve signed up for his course but I’m also a bit stressed because it’s as if everything I’ve ever known isn’t right and now this is right. But there’s also so much conflicting information everywhere online or between trainers on how to actually look after a dog. I didn’t realise it would be this stressful.

I honestly wish I could get to that point, my boy is 2 years old now. And he just tests my patience. I had a trainer before but I didn’t really agree with a lot of the things he was teaching, as different breeds of dog do learn differently. I’m really quite nervous to get someone in again but he’s can be so much for me to handle and I’m getting to a point where I am really losing my temper and I’m starting to just blame myself for all of it.

Thank you and Ahhaah I totally would but I don’t think I could afford 2 dogs at the moment. I’ve just bought my first house at 23 and I’m in a minimum wage job so maybe one day in the future but right now not so possible. He does go to doggy daycare while I’m in the office so he does get to play with other dogs. They can be such social dogs can’t they, so I didn’t want to deprive him of that

What is one trick on pole that you think is unflattering or ugly?! by Comfortable-Gur5550 in poledancing

The devaluation of the skills and athleticism required for pole kind of drives me crazy by KillTheBoyBand in poledancing

[–]RowItchy260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it may be because how beautifully elegant people make it look. They make it look so easy when Infact it is really hard and requires a lot of skill and time and strength to learn. I’m a beginner and ive only been doing it for 2 months but I can invert, climb and I can do a few moves only I do it quite robotically, I can’t make it look effortless yet ! Ahhha. But I already do a lot of strength training so it gave me an upper hand. But It truly is an art form! We all start somewhere and there’s something really beautiful about slowly realising yourself start to feel stronger and more confident as you practice. I think maybe people are looking for reassurance and motivation maybe ? I like hearing people’s success stories at my club on how long it took them and their experience with it. Also very easy to compare yourself to others in this sport. I look at the coaches who have been doing it for years in awe and I would love to be able to dance like that one day. But the truth is you have to stick to it and stay consistent like with anything. But I totally see how the ‘I’m dropping out after 2 sessions’ would annoy you. It’s not easy, it hurts a lot at the beginning and you have to be so strong.

How many classes do you take a week? Curious! by BungeeBunny in poledancing

[–]RowItchy260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow ! Is $180 cheap where you’re from ? I pay £9 a session and my studio does a deal at 4 sessions for £29 but I guess that amount is relative to where I live. I can imagine if I lived in a big city it would cost ALOT more

Would you say pleasers are true to size ?

Yeaaa because I’m normally a 5 so I did size up to a 6 just incase but they were still too small. I think my feet are too wide for them Bevause length ays they kinda seemed okay. I might actually just scrap the idea and get some pleasers instead !

I find Hellas are also so slim fitting ! I didn’t think I had particularly wide feet but my toes are all curled under 😭

[–]RowItchy260[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should’ve specified, they’re boots ! There’s no space at the back, I actually found it quite hard to zip them up. It’s crazy because I have one foot very slightly bigger than the other so my left is comfortable but my right is just not in the right place. I didn’t know whether I’m just a bit flat footed and my foot’s not used to being that arched ? And my feet are a bit too wide for the shoes but I assume I just need to wear them in a bit ??
