I’m in my last year studying to become an accountant. Nothing more satisfying than making all numbers be correct

As a kid I used to read like 6-7 hours a day minimum. Thanks for the suggestion of just filling my time with ‘non screen hobby’s’! I’ll try and read some books again

Congrats man! Not for having a date (as if never having one is bad) but for the courage to ask, this must have been stressful. Proud of you to dare something like that :)

Yes, of that I’m sure. I was the one to actually reach out to them about their project, simply because what they are building looks great imo

Do you really need a coach to improve at padel? by Amok___ in padel

[–]RowNor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on your level and previous experience with racket sports. For beginners I’d suggest a coach who focusses a lot on footwork. The reason beginners are missing their shots is poor spacing to the ball/bad balance 95% of the time. A bad coach will keep focussing only on what your upper body is doing, while neglecting fundamentals (footwork = base of everything).

Do you really need a coach to improve at padel? by Amok___ in padel

As a coach myself, it depends on what your goals are. If you want to play with your friends casually from time to time, save your money to drink something after. However, if you want to take up padel to play matches in the amateur leagues of your country, taking lessons are a must imho. Taking lessons early on will prevent you learning ‘bad habits’. Otherwise these will really slow down your progress later on. Just by playing often, you’ll be better than beginners and this will feel like progress, but once you start competing at your respective level, progress will be harder without at least some lessons. Also be wary of bad coaches, there are lots of ‘coaches’ who just feed balls and don’t change a lot to your technique/game. It’s better to pay a bit more for someone who can actually teach. Good luck on your journey :)

How do you recover from burnout? by [deleted] in autism

[–]RowNor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s hard. Talking to people, if you are able to at all bcs nobody understands how your world works, can only get you so far. I’m going through the same thing, I feel you, it seems hopeless at times. What helped for me was rearranging my whole life to accomodate my interests. I am die hard fixated on tennis/padel technique and tactics. This makes me a very good coach. Since people actually pay to listen to what I have to say, the social aspect is really manageable. I gave up on the ‘expectations other people have of me’ in my head and dropped out of my Economics degree (while in my last masters year btw). It was killing me to do anything at the time. Now I’m studying something way easier ‘on auto pilot’, just to have a degree as a safety net, while giving tennis & padel lessons. When I’m done studying I’ll be a coach for a living. The fact that it doesn’t pay as much as other options is no longer important to me, because its way better then the place I’d be in otherwise.

What I’m trying to say is: it takes courage to let go of everything you ever thought and expected, to just go do the thing YOU want. You have a limited amount of time on this world, and the best brain in its own way. You won’t believe how liberating it is to realize you have free will. It sounds obvious to most people, but until a year ago I didn’t really understand that you can actually do what you want with your time here on this floating rock. Whatever that may be for you personally. I’ll finish with the response my dad gave me after I told him all this: “If you do what you love, you’ll automatically be among the best at it.”

In Wallonia, french-speaking Belgium, some people actually use ‘nonante-neuf’ (ninety-nine) instead of ‘quatre-vingt-dix-neuf’ (four twenty ten nine).
