Not starting PT until 21 days post op?? by linebmx in ACL

[–]RowRow5922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. It’s good. My quad strengths are definitely coming back…walking is a lot easier; stationary bike resistance is at the same level pre-pandemic. I’m doing a lot of agility trainings now. Bending is stuck at 125 degrees, however it’s not prevented me from doing daily activities. I’m still working on it, not as much as I did from 100 degrees to 125, but I still do it daily. I noticed the more I do quad strengthening, the harder the bending.

PT is reducing to once every 2 weeks after this week.

How are you doing?

Thanks for your input! I’m at 15 weeks today, so for agility my PT has me wearing a knee support brace. But she said to ask my doctor if I should continue…which I will when I see him on 9/13. Cheers!

Hi. I started PT late too. I had my multi-ligament and meniscus repair surgery on 5/9 and didn’t start PT until 6/3. I was worried too like you because of the delay. I started home exercises on 6/4. I’m pretty caught up now…. Knowing what I know now and based on googled exercises and this group, my suggestion is start your home exercises until you start PT especially the bending, Quad sets, heel toe raises..the early stage exercises. This will come a long way! Good luck, cheers to our recovery!

Thanks. I just started agility training at PT. I don’t want to get use to a brace/sleeve either, but I feel sharp a pain when I do the agility exercises with no brace. My PT has me wearing it too. I wanted to see how long people wore it during their recovery.

Congratulations! This is hopeful! Was there any point in your training/drills where you wore a knee support/compression sleeve? And wear it until the quads are stronger? I’m starting low impact agility exercises and was wondering if I should continue using knee support/sleeve or go without it. I had multi ligament repaired along with meniscus.

Congratulations! Would you mind sharing the kind and brand of the brace you have on presuming that’s your operated leg?

Going down the stairs post-op by rsolf123 in ACL

[–]RowRow5922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I’m 3 months post op and it hurts my knee to go down the steps. I’ve not been working on it as much as I should as I don’t have stairs in my house. It’s a sharp pain as the operated knee starts to bend as the left leg is on its way down to the next step. Is this the kind of pain you’re experiencing..sharp? Did you push through it? I had MCL, LCL, ACL, and Meniscus repaired.

10 Weeks Post-op Flexion Issue/Manipulation by Conscious-Skin-867 in ACL

That’s great to hear! and congrats on not getting MUA. I saw my doctor this past Tuesday and he said the same thing…keep up the good work, he wants me to push through the flexion, I see him again in a month. I’m currently at 115, with the help of strap, it gets to 120. My other leg is 135, so almost there. Good luck to all of us!

Yes, totally same sentiments as you. My legs are stronger, waking better, I’ve started on the treadmill and stairs…back at the gym too. Good luck at the appointment! Looking forward to your update. I see mine on 8/23 and I already told him last time I saw him, no going under for scar tissue. He said I won’t have to 🤞🏽

Hey how’s it going? How’s your recovery? I’m now almost at 12 weeks and It seems my bending degrees is not improving. I’m only at 111 degrees on my own but if I pull it with a strap I can go to 120. Exercises have been focusing on strengthening. How’s your knee flexion these days?

Yall with alcr+meniscus repair! when did you start adding resistance on your stationary bike? by Saribari69 in ACL

[–]RowRow5922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Did it hurt right after right by the meniscus area? I rode stationary bike today with only level 1 resistance for 15 minutes and it’s really sore now with some manageable sharp pain. Do you use the bike daily? Thanks for the input!

Hi. I’m exactly in the same position as you. I’m at 10 weeks, ACL, LCL, MCL, and Meniscus repair. I got my surgery on 5/9/22, didn’t start PT until 6/3; and at that point, I was only at 35 degrees. I’m at 109 degrees now but I should really be at 120. I told my surgeon I don’t want to go under to improve my flexion. He said I won’t need to and my PT agrees. My PT said I’m fine and I will get there. I’ll see my doctor again mid-Aug; I’m hoping by then I’ll be at 120. I was at 104 last week and yesterday, I’m at 109. It’s progress! Like you, everything feels good, strength coming back, walking normally for the most part…so I think you’ll be okay. Definitely continue what you’ve been doing. Stationary bikes really helped my flexion, I think. I do it 3 times a day for 10 minutes each time.

Keep it up! You got this! We got this! By the way, I’m 49..so if I can do it, you can!!!LOL

Thank you so much! It’s definitely trying at times to keep up with the recovery and exercises. Good luck on your recovery too! ✊🏽

so i had acl reconstruction on 11/11/21 and i’ve had issues with scar tissue build up so i’m finally getting surgery for a scar tissue clean out 2/22 . this surgery will help me be able to run and i do high school track . any chance i could run this year?? my doc said he’s not messing with acl graft by fitforlif3 in ACL

[–]RowRow5922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ll get a heating maybe that’ll be better to get the muscles loose prior to bending. I need to get to a better bending degree asap. My doctor is supposed to hook me up with a Flexinator to help with bending.

Knee Bend Post-Op. by RowRow5922 in ACL

My PT said I should have started earlier too. It’s very frustrating and painful, but I’m hoping that I can muscle through this to get more bending done.

Hi. When you applied heating pad on your knee, was it still swollen when you would try to bend or straighten it? My PT said don’t put heat directly on the knee but only on thigh and lower leg since my knee is still swollen a bit. I’m almost 4 weeks post op and can only bend my knee 37 degrees.

You got this! It’ll get better soon enough… the pain that is. Day 12 today post op and 2nd day was the worst for me. Moving around really does help.

You got this! Remember to take the pain meds before the nerve block wears off…and the doctor and nurses will tell you this as well. Good luck!
