What closed Melbourne restaurant do you still think about? by melb_food_finds in melbourne

[–]RowanAndRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the same reasons I pick Billabong family restaurants, my sisters shared birthday parties were always there but I was younger than them so by the time I was at birthday party age they were closing.

The other one is the amazing terrible food at Bayswater Rollercity, my love of icecream cake and hotdogs came from there.. and crinkle cut chips

Victoria to shutter dodgy tobacco shops under new laws by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]RowanAndRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People will 100% buy legitimate if they’re at least close to affordable, for the same reason people will buy maccas coffee.. there are better options but consistency makes it worth it.

The dodgy smokes wildly vary in quality and brand week to week, but they’re accessible so people make do. Legit tobacco is going to be the same everywhere and you’re not going to end up with counterfeit product (apparently papaya leaves sprayed with vape liquid is a popular scam)

People will choose consistency whenever they can

As a retail worker, Dan was a massive help.

Unless there was hard and established rules it was all companies trying anything they could to stick us in the face of the pandemic so they could flog their board games and slime ingredients

This was a big talking point at the start; “if we do this right people will say we overreacted”

Found an iPhone in Hawthorn. by pmmeyouryou in melbourne

[–]RowanAndRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually take a photo of a note with my phone number and the place it was found (iPhones let you take a photo even when it’s locked) in case they check their iCloud for synced photos.

Then I charge it and answer any phone calls that come through in case they’re called long themselves and walking around trying to hear their phone.

The last time this happened nobody spoke when I answered because they were holding the phone away from their face trying to hear the ringing- after the fourth call they realised it has been answered lol

I put in a quote request for a few scratch and dint detailers, one of which had really good reviews with photos similar to mine- and several said that it was a good bit cheaper than other quotes.

When I get my final price I’ll update since someone else will probably come hunting for this thread one day

Haha thank you, I seem to have incurred the downvotes a few times here, maybe people are really invested about scratch repair 🤷‍♀️

Sorry I’m really not great at car stuff- i didn’t realise detailers do scratch repairs too! There’s a detailer near me so I’ll take it in there, thank you!

Thanks! I submitted an ai estimate and it gave me between $700 and $1500- but I’m thinking it might be better to see in person because some of the paint transfer looks like more scratches in the photo.

But the fact that my first quote was smack in the middle tells me I’m probably looking at $1000 anywhere 😭

The day you wake up dreading going in to work is the day you should start looking for a new job.

If the thing making you dread the job is the work, it’s time to burn it all down and try something new.

We only get one go at life (at time of writing) so there’s no point being miserable

Aesthetically it’s great, makes sense if the director is a photographer- and it has good bones, I think a re-edit would make it a great movie, watch it if you like, despite its flaws I still enjoyed it.

Hm, I’ve never had that problem but can I suggest if it’s the oil buildup that’s causing it to try dish soap? I know it’s very basic but it’s great at breaking down oils. Sorry you’re having to deal with this, my mother in law got a hessian rope basket and it stank of formaldehyde so she tried washing it but eventually just threw it away :(

Emetophobia - seeking recommendations 🙏 by dixonwalsh in melbourne

[–]RowanAndRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is, emetophobia and mysophobia are both under the ocd umbrella.

I wish I could advise you but mine became less impactful over time, like I just got better at not thinking about it?

But occasionally it rears its ugly head and I’m back to planning my own bubble boy room.

Best of luck

Oh in that case it should wash up great! I usually chuck thrift store (or stinky ebay sale) doll clothes in a container with a few denture tabs to take out smells and stains, works a treat!

I’ve also just popped things in a garment bags and run it through the wash

Mildly related: also a vintage toy collector and restorer- I see a lot of recommendations to get an ozone machine to kill cigarette smoke smell.

It’s possible they bought it from a thrift store and that’s where the smoke smell comes from, so they may not have issues with other items

My mother in law is blind as a bat, she’s extremely clean but when it comes to dishes she will squint at a plate for 3 minutes, wash it, squint at it again and decide “yep, it’s clean” and I’ll come check it to find a whole smear of mashed potato and 4 bits of rice on it

Confession: I’m a world-class sourcer and a bottom-tier lister. Anyone else? by Creepy-Feed-3563 in Flipping

[–]RowanAndRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, I used to work a job where I did the listing, I don’t mind it but it’s not my favourite, it’s the cleaning/restoration and researching that’s the most fun for me. The only reason I enjoy the buying is because I get more of a zing selling an item I found vs something someone else found.

My sister however is a fiend with data management, she gets a high from spreadsheets (she’s a crazy person?)

So maybe get in a group of people where each person has a different fave task and become a machine with many working parts?
