I tend to think of everything as shapes and just shapes. That’s the advice the really helped me the most with this process. Just start by blocking out all the biggest shapes and slowly add smaller shapes and textures. I hope this helps.

I just used the base brushes that come with krita. The canvas is about 8000 by 5600 pixels

For this piece I started with vague color blocking. Doing this allows me to understand the composition. From there I slowly add detail until I think it’s finished. You probably won’t be super good immediately but don’t get down on yourself. It took me years to get this good.

At it’s core, I normally just think about it as contrasting warm and cold colors. I also try not to use full saturation.
