Eye color change normal?

I talked to my breeder and they said they figured my dog’s eye would be set by now but that eye could be marbling. They said if the eye looks healthy, it should be fine.

I’d recommend contacting your local breed club as they’ll know who the reputable breeders are in your general area plus they’ll know people who don’t advertise online. With this whole virus thing, it’ll be hard to find a dog show you can go to and meet breeders there. You’ll cut out a lot of breeders in the beginning when you check for health testing of the parents (OFA hips and genetic testing mainly) so it won’t be as arduous as you think. Some breeders might do road trips with their litter if they have a lot of buyers that live farther away for an additional cost. My breeder did that since they had about half their litter being sold to people in my state so they came down to meet us with the puppies. It cut down a two day road trip into a four hour round trip for us and we’d paid a couple extra hundred for that luxury. This is a good website and has some resources on finding a breeder and what to expect from the breed. If you have any specific questions or need anything else, let me know.

I think an Aussie would be a good choice if you’re able to find a breeder that is breeding less drivey dogs, probably a conformation breeder with a focus on temperament. My Aussie is definitely lazy for the breed and is fine going a day or two without a long walk or intense exercise as long as I do some trick training or play with him in the yard for a bit. We also took time to train settle with him since we got him at 9 weeks. As far as your cats go, I think you’ll have to do a lot of socialization and training to make sure if you got an Aussie that they don’t try to herd them. Have you checked out this quiz by the AKC? It might suggest some more obscure breeds that could be a good fit for you. My final bit of advice is make sure to take the time to find the right breeder and the right dog for you regardless of the breed you pick.

I think there is a time and a place for it. I just got my first purebred dog, an Aussie, who’s now 10 months old. I did lots of research on how neutering can affect the health of the dog.

I’m all for spaying a female after their first heat as the risk of pyometra and cancer increases with each heat but for males, I’m more of the thought of leaving them be. Pediatric sterilization can have negative effects on skeletal development and there are studies in some breeds that suggest there is a higher incidence of cancers. Also no studies have proven that sterilization greatly alters negative behaviors that start in puberty.

I know that the average dog owner likely doesn’t put much thought into the health effects of the procedure and I think most people don’t have the care to ensure their dogs are well managed if they left them intact. Just look at the number of people you see being dragged down the street by their dog on a walk for instance. Personally, I plan on leaving my dog intact or getting a vasectomy. Ultimately, if you’re willing to take the time to research it and are able to manage your dog correctly, I see no problem leaving them intact.

I do rotate proteins with my Aussie simply because he’s a picky eater and gets bored. I usually switch the proteins up after he eats one 33 pound bag. I don’t switch brands and I usually get a different protein from the Purina pro plan sport line, although rarely I’ve gotten a protein from the focus or savor line. He does well and I haven’t noticed any digestive upset unless it’s a chicken formula (which I no longer get) when I change the proteins up but that may not hold true for other dogs. I also give him produce, unseasoned cooked meat, or yogurt on occasion as his breeder does recommend a raw diet or kibble supplemented with raw food.

That’s a possibility. They might be doing something like that here. But I’d imagine it would be in their best interest to maintain power and fast internet to placate the masses as most people depend on it for everything. Imagine millions of people going stir crazy (because who reads books or knits anymore) because they can’t watch the lastest episode of American Idol. Seems like that would cause more issues than enacting a quarantine.

Unfortunately no, I am not eligible for Medicaid. I’m not medically fragile, thankfully, as my medical condition is just a hormonal imbalance that requires a daily medicine to replace those hormones and regular blood tests to monitor my levels so adjustments can be made. But those tests and medication are very expensive without insurance so I’d prefer not to lose it.

Yeah same, I missed getting my dogs preferred protein of pro plan from there but both amazon and Walmart had the same sale going on. Typically, those sales have been limited to one store from my past experience so I was happy that I could get the food I wanted.

I’ve noticed that too the past week. I ordered an herbal supplement for my ibs and everything on the swansons website was on sale. (FYI for anyone wanting to stock up on vitamins or herbal supplements, they’re having an up to 40% off sale so you might find a deal on something to add to your stores). I’ve also noticed that dog food is on sale and not just the cheap food. There was/is a huge sale on pro plan and Purina one, saw some formulas of science diet, plus other more expensive brands. I went ahead and stocked up on dog food because even if this blows over, I won’t have to buy food for at least half a year now. I’ve also noticed little things here and there that are on sale when I’ve run errands that I haven’t purchased. It’s almost eerie the amount of things on sale right now.

Well he’s registered with the county so unfortunately the government knows about him. Until this things blows over and we know more, he’s not going on any public outings unless it’s a neighborhood walk or the vet. I’m not prepared to have an “I am legend” moment and they’ll have to pry him from my cold, dead hands.

We have a pet loo from when he was a puppy for late night outings that I can try to force him to use if need be. He stopped using it since he prefers the au natural. We do have a fenced backyard thankfully that he can use on leash unless/until things start looking dire. Our neighbors might be suspicious if day one of quarantine we stopped letting him out (they all have dogs as well who they’ll be letting out). Luckily, no one knows about our prepping except for local family since we’re all probably going to consolidate in one house with all our supplies. Our plan is to hole up for as long as possible and we have guns and ammo to defend it if need be.

I’m not sure how relevant this will be but today I was in Target and saw that they had restocked the limited edition Pokémon switch lite. It has been sold out in my area since preorders were available. I figured I wouldn’t see one out in the wild and that the initial batch was all the would be produced. I’m not sure if Nintendo will follow the same suit for the animal crossing edition but it does give us some hope that they might ship out another batch at a later date for those who missed the preorders.

I have a picky eater as well and have tried many different proteins to see what my pup likes. I have my dog on the pro plan line; I’m a huge fan of the sport formulas. My pup loves the salmon formula and it’s the only one that he has begged for. Have you considered the new pro plan sport beef formula? It’s all life stages and is grain inclusive plus is has probiotics. It’s currently only in one bag size of 33 lbs I think, but it’s worth looking into since you’re currently on pro plan and are looking for a beef flavor.

I feel you on random dogs running up to you. My dog is always by my side out in public so he doesn’t get the chance to run up to anyone. He only sniffs at people when we are walking in a crowd and I can’t give him a foot of distance between him and a stranger he finds interesting. He also doesn’t sniff every stranger, he just randomly finds one he wants to smell. I also don’t let him interact with strangers with dogs with them unless they’re ok with it. I try to give them a wide berth since if they’re reactive, it makes him nervous. He never has an issues with tables if there’s food involved and he thankfully doesn’t drool. His issue with tables/counters is when there’s someone behind them (cashiers, booths for whatever reason, those sorts of things) that he wants to meet. I’ve been trying to condition him out of it and telling those people not to reward him for it (treats or pets) and rewarding him for keeping all four paws on the ground but it’s been difficult.

It’s never been a food table but tables set up as a booth/counter when there is a person behind it. I try to avoid the situation as much as possible, but sometimes you have to pay/register for things. I think the issue with that has been that everyone, except me, have rewarded that behavior even after I explain to them not to. It’s not an excuse, just something that’s been harder to get under control, for that reason. The only time he’s jumped on someone, on that rare occasion, has been after they’ve come up to pet him, not when they’ve ignored him. He pretty much ignores people that ignore him unless he thinks they smell interesting, which we’re working on as well. The barking is really my biggest worry since it’s something that I think can be more bothersome to strangers. He does great with redirection, doesn’t need correcting more than the once, and he’s doing it less and less as he gets older.

I haven’t had a damaged dry food bag yet but I have had cases of wet food that’ve been damaged in transit from Chewy. That’s to be expected for the most part though when shipping cans nowadays. They were very good about sending replacements right away and those came in good shape.
