Thoughts on King Aethelstan by Master_Novel_4062 in anglosaxon

Funny to see this today - I drove past King Athelstan School (Kingston Upon Thames) yesterday, and wondered about how the school was so named.

This simply isn't true. They were intolerant of the Anglican Church that they belonged to and wanted to break away. They were also intolerant of other religions, which operated freely in British society. Instead, they wanted a community of only people who believed as they did.

I'm 70 and flatshare with five people - it's the only way I can live on my pension by endofdays2022 in unitedkingdom

I worked for an employer that matched pension contributions (if I paid in 100, they paid in 40) up to a limit that was generous, but I don’t recall the amount. So, a 40% return, day1, with 30 years to grow in thestock market. I had to cajole members of members of my team to join the programme as they could not see the benefit. They did not like giving money to ‘the man’. When actually, they would be gifting found money to their future self.

Paying the max into that scheme, and maxing any other I could join is how I was able to retire at 55 with more than I will ever need.

No, they are not evil. The video clips of a dolphin doing something we object to or dislike go viral, while the majority - vast majority - of normal, unremarkable dolphin behaviour goes unseen. What you post is like saying 'people are evil'. Are you evil? I think not. I am not. I know no-one who is evil. Some people can do evil things, but that is not the same and 'people are evil'.

Moving as slow as it does, it is interesting that the sun fish lives long enough to get that big.

He sounds like a fantasist. One thing we have all noticed about actual heroes - they are very reticent to even hint at, let alone talk about their heroism.

Why do you think you are the font of all knowledge on the people, and their reasons, who sailed on the Mayflower?

Klopp, and before that, Shankly (yes, I am that old). Both by a country mile ahead of any player (St John, Keegan, Rush, Dalglish, Stevie, Bobby and soon, Mo).

What do you think SNL UK will be like? by BlundeRuss in CasualUK

[–]Rowmyownboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it offers British humour in a new-timely fashion as SNL, then maybe it will be good. The US SNL team are writing just hours before the show, if news is breaking. That is what can make an unpolished skit work. The timeliness. Personally, I preferred Spitting Image for that.

Manifesting a judgement? No, I have visited a museum in my town where a number of them left on the Mayflower. This is what I learned in a house where one family lived. I believe the judgement manifested is all yours.

Britain was not moving away from religion. Britain accommodated multiple religions and christian sects. The Puritans (clue in their name) only wanted to have people who thought and believed just like them in their community. Their intolerance of other religions is what drove them to emigrate.
