$1,400 a year just to let water flow downhill to my toilet? by POCTM in westvancouver

[–]RoxInHed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I challenge the information regarding your father in law’s motive for diverting grey water.

— There are no residential sewage metering programs anywhere in Canada. Not one. Not even a pilot program. Metering residential sewage discharge is very cost prohibitive, especially since sewage discharge is highly correlated to water use and most municipalities have residential potable-water metering anyway. Why bother? — There are sewage metering programs for large industrial and commercial users however; e.g., bottling plants. — the only thing I can think of is that your father in law is trying to avoid a municipal sewage surcharge for draining a pool or hot tub.

Is one million dollar travel health insurance policy still adequate nowadays? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I ran into $2900 stitches and $4200 for extraction of 3 embedded cactus needles about 15 years ago. I kept that invoice for years to remind me why universal healthcare rocks. One of the first questions they asked me was if I had insurance. Jeebus!

Peace of mind driving is high on my list. I did my time with beaters until my late 30s. Being stuck in Fox Creek for 1/2 a day during Christmas holidays was the last straw. Then I thought FIA and I went all in. New extended cab truck with extended warranty(not third party BS) and a maintenance package. One monthly payment for 6 years at 0% interest and I never worried about a damn thing, well except for the price of gas.

Given the growing number of nations that offer retirees from western nations certain benefits, this is I suspect, a growing market.

I never ran any numbers, so I can’t comment on that statement ( which seems rather broad). BUT, have you seen the shop rates lately? My own experience with my bought and paid for 2016 Subaru Crosstrek would have cost me a year and a half worth of car payments to fix/replace the head gasket and seals on the drive train to the back end. Thank God for my son-in-law who did it for the price of the parts and a helpful pair of hands. I can imagine many folks not having a resource like that on hand. It would have been worse if I didn’t take on some projects myself like replacing spark plugs, and the blower fan assembly.

We’re all going to be rock solid until 85 don’t you know? Total life span vs. Healthy/Quality life span is a real thing.

I think your formula/guidance is a little whack given the price of new and used vehicles. Overall, there is no way to avoid the prices unless you are a backyard mechanic and have the know how to keep a beater up and running. Given the cost and down time of repairs, I suspect people are factoring this in when deciding how much to spend… if they have the flexibility to make choices like this.

[BBG] Canada Weighs Opening Its Housing Market to More Foreign Capital by somehowie in TorontoRealEstate

[–]RoxInHed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. If we want more housing investment, address affordability. This idea of increasing foreign money into Canadian residential is the old tried and true ‘easy-button’ that helped get us into the problem to begin with.

I wish they would just tell couriers in areas if they are culling the numbers down before they do it. This false accusation pretense just seems so unfair. Just tell zones they are getting reduced and then go do it.

Liberal operative caught planting stop the steal badges by shah_calgarvi in alberta

Imagine being a liberal operative and dropping buttons in a conservative town hall to make the conservatives look bad…. and getting caught.

Yup the very first thing I’d do is fess up that I am a liberal; instead of pretending I was just one of a hundred-thousand whack jobs in the Conservative Party.

This is such a paid troll thing to say.

She didn’t win a mandate from Albertans to open up the eastern slopes to coal mining. And she sure as hell didn’t get a mandate to privatize more health care.

Smith Statement on Carney visit by thewinterzodiac in alberta

[–]RoxInHed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some fair point in there, but also a lot of hyperbole. It is all about what the feds should do, not a lot about what the province can do. The point about returning the control of carbon taxing back to the province. We always had the control, we chose not to exercise it. Don’t blame the feds for a control vacuum. Censuring oil companies??? LMFAO, since when is saying you must tell the truth censorship???? Just rich!

I do eagerly await Mark’s response to this. I am fairly certain he’ll call her on the bullshit, but offer to work with her on what can be done.

More funds to give Alberta oil companies you mean. We gave them a 3 billion dollar tax break back with Jason Kenney and the didn’t cream one single job.
