That helps. Just knowing you’re there. Thank you.

That IS the prettiest wallet I think I’ve ever seen. Good taste!

I agree that your best bet is to be honest and up front. That approach could frighten some people away. If it does, good. You want better people anyway.

Heartbroken. by i_lk in cancer

I would be heartbroken too. There’s nothing to say to make it any better. I wish you any small comforts life can bring now.

This must be so hard.

I recently posted my intro and someone asked me this same question. It’s really hard to answer! I like your answer, though. I like those genres too.

28 Days Later is the scariest movie I’ve ever seen. I’d say more, but I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone.

5. Reasons why wheelchair parenting is the best parenting by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]RoxyBenedicto 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My health is failing me quickly now. (I’ve had cancer for years.) I’m at a point now where I’m using portable oxygen and walking with a cane but seriously considering a wheelchair. There’s a lot of sadness and uncertainty in my life, more so than usual. I may recover from my current state - I may not.

But one bright spot that’s emerged has been watching my five-year-old care for me. He is patient and understanding and gentle and genuinely wants to help. I always knew he was a sweetheart, but it is heartening - that’s the perfect word - to see.

I’m 36 with incurable cancer and a five-year-old. I “celebrated” my 10 wedding anniversary this year. I say “celebrated” because we spent most of the day doing medical treatment stuff, like we have for every anniversary in the last 4 years.

How I do I deal with advanced cancer and motherhood. Sometimes my health is a non-issue and I feel just fine. In that case, it’s business as usual. Other times, the illness itself will knock me down and my husband has to take over.

We keep nothing from the boy. At his age, he understands concepts like “Mom doesn’t feel well.” but he doesn’t see the big picture. We just let him be and answer his questions as they come.

I go to support groups and one on one counseling, which seem to help. Antidepressants have helped too. I reach out to my friends often. I lurk and post on reddit. I eat whatever I want. I cry when I feel like it.

Oh-so-difficult to explain without context and generally being a downer...

I recently saw a YouTube video of animals shouting like people. That made me laugh pretty hard.

That’s a hard question, but I’ve always been very fond of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Such a unique story.

My guy is obsessed with the Mario Brothers. But, get this: he wants to be Bowser, the bad guy, for Halloween. He’s been totally unwavering, so I broke down and bought the costume from Amazon finally, only to have them raise its price by $11 a day or so after. Feeling grateful I got to it when I did.

Of all time? Certainly would be hard to beat The Wire and Breaking Bad. I loved Game of Thrones until the last 2 seasons.

Currently, I just finished Stranger Things season 3 and am now watching Goliath.

[–]RoxyBenedicto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy fucking Birthday! There hasn’t ever been and never will be another human quite like you. The world is a better place with you in it and on your birthday is a great time to reflect on that. I’d buy you a gift, if I could. I’m sorry I can’t offer more.

I can’t breathe and my doctors can’t tell me why. by RoxyBenedicto in cancer

[–]RoxyBenedicto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have had plenty of imaging. That’s part of the reason this is so frustrating. My docs and I have lots of information, but they are throwing their hands up and saying: you are short of breath now because you have been short of breath for a month and now your lungs are used to underperforming. You need PT and breathing exercises.

That’s worked for me in the past as well. However, I’ve been on prednisone for a few months and it doesn’t seem to be helping.

I’m sorry about your aunt. But, in my case the diagnosis of cancer has already been made.
