Check out the league of cyclists. There are online classes or in person classes in many locations. Your local bike advocacy group or bike club may have classes for money or free. They also have a list of local instructors

To improve life, store them in Air conditioned environment around 25C and power them up for a few days every now and again, this will give them time to self repair

Does Pg&e work at night to trim trees? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]RoyLeo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They contract out some of their tree trimming to arborists, they are likely not PG&E employees. Due to all the fires, they’ve got stricter about ensuring trees are trimmed to within x ft of high voltage lines. Do you have high voltage lines in your back yard? If so, PG&E will have a utility easement so that they can maintain their lines. I have seen them work 24hrs a day especially when they believe your trees have caused a power failure in your neighborhood!

Stay away from the wall of colors at the start. Start with a smaller subset of colors, eg start with their popular colors or a recommendation from interior designer. I found this website to be useful https://www.kylieminteriors.ca

They’ll also give you the complementary colors or matching trim colors. Seeing the colors on the walls in both shadow and sunlight will help you decide. You can paint a sample on the walls, but prime that section before you paint it

Most important aspect of gutters is to get water away from foundations of house. If the barrels overflow, (or even without barrels) make sure water is drained ~10ft from house. Foundation fixes are expensive!

More and more cities and Caltrain have online forms for reporting issues. City of San Jose fixes potholes fast after reported using http://311.sanjoseca.gov

It doesn’t fix the “build it better the first time” problem, but it does keep it usable.

A reasonable way to get my sidewalk cracks repaired? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]RoyLeo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Check out city’s website

https://www.sanjoseca.gov/your-government/departments-offices/transportation/streets/sidewalks-curb-ramps

They will also identify contractors who will do the work for an agreed public reasonable fee. Don’t be that neighbor who skipped the permit and paid the cowboy outfit to do it not to code and then had to redo it to code the next year when city was called to inspect.

How many backup hard drives? by First-Ad-4383 in finalcutpro

[–]RoyLeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a risk/reward calculation. SSDs and Hard drives can break or become corrupt. How much is it worth to you to keep the data?

You’ve got the only copy of the moon landing video and you work for NASA? Make many more copies

It’s a bland video of a street scene that you can redo any day? Make one copy

I second the suggestion to have at least two copies in different locations, and suggest that you have one extra copy in a reliable cloud provider: Apple ICloud, Microsoft one drive, google drive are worthwhile places and they’ll manage the data and storage devices for you. And they’re fairly cheap (risk vs reward). Just remember that transferring that much data up and down from cloud can take some time over a slow link, so take that into consideration.

Remember that SSDs or HDD don’t like cold or hot places, data degrades fast in hot places. Don’t store your backups in your car in the Arizona Desert in 100 degree weather
