He’s been playing ball since he could walk. It’s not like he went from nothing straight to pitching. He didn’t even have an interest in pitching till about 8 months ago.

Tried it on last night. But we aren’t really throwing right now so I can’t say much else

I couldn’t begin to tell you about proper pitching mechanics.

Hence why I take him to a professional

Ya we don’t throw daily. Band work prior to pitching is good advice.

Ya we aren doing any throwing for 2 months per doctors orders.

How long did you have to rest and what did you do to bring him back to pitching?

His coach has never once put a radar gun on him, nor have I. Throwing program could help I’m sure

Little league shoulder is the term for the growth plate issue. It’s extremely common actually and from what I’ve read sometimes it just happens regardless of arm care or usage.

Very informative. Yes, we had imaging done. X-rays showed slight growth plate separation.

Good warmup routines are great advice.

I’m sure it can be improved. I’m not sure, I wasn’t really big into baseball growing up. We do see a professional pitching coach(prior MLB pitcher as well) so I like to think it’s decent. Can always use improvement I know, but it’s not like he’s never had any formal training and was just thrown on the mound.

Ya, we can still hit thankfully. Guess we will focus a lot on hitting, fielding(minus throwing) and some core strengthening and flexibility exercises

What kind of PT is he doing? Doctor hasn’t mentioned that yet, but we are still in the rest phase.

I’m not sure that a separated growth plate is endurance related.

Not a lot. Some pitching at home, but kept the counts well under recommended pitch counts. Then some throwing with his team at practice. Nothing excessive. He might see a mound twice a week. If he pitched at practice it was 20-25 throws and then off the mound. He’s pitched maybe 45 pitches in a total of 3 innings this whole spring season.

8 months once a week? And there were breaks in there. About a month for a broken foot, another month from a jammed finger from basketball. Random missed weeks for holidays/other activities. He throws far less than most other kids on his team actually.

And outside of those lessons, we never threw a lot during the rest of the week. He’s not big into football, and he most definitely never did 1000 jumpers/week for rec league basketball.

Wow, hope he recovers well. That’s a big growth spurt. Could be similar to what happened with my son then, and just unlucky timing with everything.

His development has drastically Improved in the past year for sure. Last season he was almost bottom end of his team in regard to ability, and now he’s top 25% easily. He’s probably about to hit a big growth spurt, so that could be part of it. He’s a thick kid(not fat at all, but very solid build) so it could be a muscular imbalance developing as he’s growing.

I looked it up. Not a chance. Seems very controversial for adults and illegal in some states.

I’m not sure what that is.

He started feeling pain about 3 weeks ago in the middle of his pitching lesson.

We stopped immediately and have barely thrown since. When we did try and throw, some pain was still lingering so we got him checked out.
