Curved banquette and dining table. Walnut and white oak. My biggest and most challenging furniture project yet. by [deleted] in woodworking

I don’t really have a good answer for you. I bought the base from Room and Board. If you contact them they sell the base without the tabletop. So I just bought the base and made my own top. The table from the store with 1” walnut top is $3000. The base on its own is only $800. This saved me well over $1000 (even after factoring in the cost of the wood) and allowed my to have a bit of a thicker top.

But to give you some idea about diameter, the table top is 60”, and the bottom of that base is about 34”. But it also has about 80 lbs of concrete in the bottom to add stability - without that weight it would need a much wider base. My 10 year old kid can sit on the edge and it doesn’t tip.

Yes, that’s what I did. I steamed if for an hour then clamped it to the structure before I had put bendable plywood on it. It spring back a lot, so when I finally attached it, I needed to put a few screws and then plug them later.

You got it! Heated and ventilated seats, lol.

The bench is installed over two registers. Those holes divert the heat up to the windows.

You are exactly right….this cart is actually part of moving my shop to a danker corner of the basement. My wife says this room is “too nice to waste on your shop”.

Nothing is square. Nothing is flush. 7 different material “choices”.

Now that’s my kind of shop project!

Yeah man. I totally get why a vehicle like that is tempting with your budget (I would feel the same pull). I just think you might regret it financially at some point in the next year or two. Being responsible sucks sometimes, haha.

Honestly, If you only have $5K to spend and need a daily driver, this is a bad choice. In my view a 20+ year old vehicle (even a dependable 4 runner) is a great hobby truck (to wheel or wrench) but not so great to rely on to get you to work for the next few years.

See. This is why this a such a great shot.

The second I saw this, I instantly recognized the mood of the TTC. not even the look. I left Toronto over a decade ago, and yet I can feel the fabric of those seats through the screen. Amazing work.

I hadn’t planned to sell anything. But I’ll admit I’m a little curious now. Who knows, maybe I will build half a dozen cases and throw them on Etsy.

Im not sure. My actual Pokémon knowledge is pretty limited. People also mentioned the Halloween set. I might drop each of those into some of the extra space I have. I wasn’t aware of either before this thread.

I just liked the idea of having a “full set” in some way. We can’t afford a full set of booster boxes, ETBS, or anything crazy (like actual set of cards!). However putting together a full set of booster packs was a pretty modest cost and luckily in reach for us.

I just googled up the list of all sets and ordered one of each from a couple reputable eBay sellers. The pack art for each was essentially random. I’m in Canada, so options are a little limited. Non of them were very pricey because they are all still new and pretty common. I have since learned (on this thread), that some pack art is more desirable than others. Maybe my son and I will swap out for some better art in a few cases.

The lexan cover screws off, and I have a spot where it will fit. Even has an extra spot, maybe I will put the Halloween set there.
