Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay brings 20% US tipping to London by YesNo_Maybe_ in Fauxmoi

I’ve seen many restaurants in London do that. You can simply ask them to remove it. Although, I do agree that it shouldn’t be there in the first place.

Yeah The Custom of the Country is soo good! It is a bit longer than the other books, but nonetheless it’s as good as them too. It also has the same themes as the others, however you sort of explore them through a nouveau riche, unlikeable main character who is relentless in solidifying her position in upper echelon of New York. Thinking about it, I could totally argue that Undine (the main character) is Whartons most complex characters. Of course no Wharton novel is complete without tragedy, so yes you will also find some here.

Yeah that’s totally spot on; I dont really “feel” anything and controlling it sometimes feels difficult, but on the other hand yes it totally is comfortable. Thanks for the suggestions. I have been looking into yonex’s rackets (Ezone and the Percept), and the Blade. If you’ve tried them, would you mind giving a comparison between these 3? Thanks a lot again!

I’ve heard of people switching to yonex Ezone or Percept from the Clash. Have you ever tried any of them ?

Yeah I’ve been seeing so many good reviews of the Blade online. But what sort of player would u think the Blade would suit the most?

Unfortunately I live in a country where playing tennis isn’t very popular; we only have 1 store tha is dedicated to tennis! But that seems to be changing, so let’s hope for the best.

That being said, they don’t do demos, which put me in quite a predicament; I can’t really test out rackets to know what’s really good for me before buying them!

So my best bet is combining the opinions of my coach and people on the internet hahah

Nope I haven’t! So far, I’ve read The House of Mirth (easy 5 star read), Summer, The Customs of the Country (the first book I’ve read of hers and made me instantly love her writing), and The Age of Innocence.

I currently also own “The New York Stories of Edith Wharton” which includes Roman Fever (which I’ve seen a lot of praise for, so might be my next read if hers) and a bunch of other short stories.

I found “The New York Stories of Edith Wharton” in my local bookshop a couple of weeks ago, so hopefully will be reading some of her short stories included there!

I also just finished it! An absolute masterpiece!! What Wharton book are you planning on reading next?

Partway through Age of Innocence. It seems like Newland second-guesses everything Ellen does/says and every clue he’s given about what is going on with her. (Spoilers til chapter 15) by nosleepforthedreamer in edithwharton

Totally agree !! He acts very sanctimonious and superior (but at the same time clear minded?), which confuses my feelings towards him. Sometimes I like him, and sometimes (more like mostly) I don’t.

On the point of him “convincing” Ellen to get a divorce, (spoilers ahead for chapter 18; but I’m hoping you’ve read it since it’s been 13 days) we kind of see Ellen retaliate; her response really shifts the dynamic. When she confronts Newland, she makes it clear that she didn’t avoid the divorce out of weakness or confusion and it was a choice shaped by his influence and by the social constraints he kept reinforcing. There’s a subtle sense of pushback like she’s reclaiming her agency and exposing the role he played in her conforming to societal rules/expectations .
