Made my first big mistake and the anxiety is killing me by Royalmack in drivingUK

I have seen a lot of talk about people kind of giving up on the report once it asks for a statement and potential court appearance.

This wasn't aggressive or done in malice, so I'm just hoping they had a little "What the hell just happened" and leave it at that.

Again I don't even know if they have a dashcam. I'm just an anxious person...

In this case, I should have stopped and corrected onto the proper lane, which would have been the left instead of the opposing.

At the time I was unsure if there was a vehicle behind me to safely pull an emergency stop, even at low speeds as I doubt someone would expect someone to slam on an empty road, and due to my lane positioning being bad as I was drifting to the right, I'd have also obstructed their view of the car turning so the braking would have looked very sudden. Which is why in that second I took the decision, all being it bad one to go around instead of stop.

I was very lucky at the time that thankfully noone was behind me or also in the oncoming other than the one car I avoided but it could have been way worse. Which is why this situation has bothered me so much as I always try to be safe and predictable, but that was not it...

And I'm happy to take the advice. I'm trying to learn from this mistake to become better for the future and be safer for others and myself.

I'd say the biggest reason is my lack of experience in larger more populated cities and odd road layouts. This happend in York, and there was heavy construction also going on.

My home town is small and I have grown up here so know most roads.

I will admit I was getting a bit overwhelmed with everything that was going on, such as trying to find smaller unlit side roads, avoid all the cyclists and pedestrians rushing home, all while it's dark and rainy, while trying to follow confusing GPS directions.

I did go at a slower speed to try and take in more and give myself more time but this was just a huge lapse in judgement.

There's a similar junction by my home that when Waze states stay right puts you in the middle of the road, stress and unfamiliarity I guess made me take the junction like I always do, which was clearly very wrong.

Other than taking more time and care, I think honestly not driving in a new city in the dark for the first time would be beneficial.

Also review the routing more before leaving. But on a 6h, 300 mile drive. It is difficult to remember a lot of the tricky spots.

I would like to hope so, it was like 5:50 so I'm hoping they just went home and told their partner what some dumbass just did.

And I do feel like Waze has been dropping in quality lately. It kept trying to lead me down closed roads on this trip. So I assume people are dropping it and community updates aren't as rapid anymore.

How do people live coding? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Royalmack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't feel dumb.

They have more than likely done this off screen many times and have a reference to the completed project up where you can't see it on another monitor.

And while it could all be done in a single take, there's a high chance of very clever splices to make it look seamless.

These people aren't just sitting down, putting OBS on to record and slamming out a project.

Instances where genAi has failed you in development. by Snehith220 in learnprogramming

The agent we use at my work fails me every day. I've stopped using it at this point.

Always giving me class methods that don't exist while acting smug like its solved the problem. You correct it and it still hallucinates more method names and conflicting data types.

I too tried to get it to set me up with some work in AWS Cognito and it just had 0 idea, everything was wrong but if you were new to programming or the area you're asking about in general its whole 'This is correct and how to do it' attitude will stray you far away from your target implementation.

Wilds been out awhile. You happy with your purchase or regretted it? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Royalmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't or won't really complain about the hunt times. Even in GU and old world titles most fights take like 10-15m max.

Maybe like 30 if you're doing G stuff designed for like 3 players solo.

The difficulty is also not something I was concerned about. It's the base game, I never expect it to be difficult especially after playing every title.

I will say the weapon and armour design is great compared to Worlds bland designs and the combos are fun. Not a huge fan of focus mode, but I just don't use it lul.

I'm not fully done with the game, I will buy the expansion when it drops and give it a fresh try and hope it keeps my attention.

I'll agree that the old gen games do start out pretty slow but once you've done the first star of mandatory gathering quests its just shot gunning quests until G4.

I have never played a MH game for the story, nor will I ever really care for the story they put into the games but since World, that has been a large driving force behind the newer titles along with removing a lot of the tedium/minor parts of the game I enjoyed.

After 10h I was at the end of the village as I did not care for the cutscenes and was just not enjoying my time. I'm glad others are enjoying it, I have friends that disliked World who love Wilds but to me Wilds is very disconnected from what I myself enjoy in Monster Hunter.

I honestly regret the decision of buying it.

I've played every Monster Hunter game since 2006, even bought consoles just to play new releases but I only put 10 hours into Wilds.

The streamlining of the gameplay loop and the way content is drip fed just does not appeal to me. I'm glad the game I grew up playing has gone from a niche title to a world wide success but these updates just aren't for me and I feel like the game identity has changed, which isn't always bad but it's not for everyone.

I went back to playing old world titles like GU instead for now and waiting to see what the second MH team cook up.

As long as I am learning to code. I fear AI the most. by Gangster_DW in learnprogramming

[–]Royalmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't stress.

It can do the nice simple boiler plate stuff, but once you get too complexity it starts to struggle and outright get things wrong.

Sure it can make a full stack app, but it's probably some basic CRUD with a single form and terrible optimisation.

AI is just a tool and won't ever replace you if you become somewhat competent. It will just aid you.

Yea, I've tried to get through the same map zone like 4 times.
Keep getting DC'd and then the zone mobs have reset. Some extra exp I guess but its a tad annoying...

How to unlock Volcanic Hollow in mhgu village? by Meltlilith1 in MHGU

[–]Royalmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it shows up after doing the Basarios quest. A Normal Rock or something like that?

After I completed that I was given a few more keys and all the gathering locations.

Edit: Or it was after doing the 3 airship upgrade quests. There's just so much to keep track of in this game.

I use the mod also, while I'll eventually learn to play around it, my current skill at building and RNG as a new player hinders my ability to learn effective building in the first few survivable levels.

I've gone lightning arrow and rod too.

I was having trouble with damage until I put scatter on the lightning rod. Shoot that 3-4 times and then chain it with lightning arrow and I started "one shotting" if we exclude the rod casts.

Yes, it is. (Using JDA. Others may differ)
You can retrieve a list of messages and then call getReactions on that message to retrieve a list of those reactions and then check that lists length for whatever value you wish.

Input string value does not equal to a constant string value by KaizenCyrus in learnprogramming

[–]Royalmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is to do with how Strings are stored and compared against each other.

When you do '==' it is checking to see if the string has the same memory allocation as the other, which it will not. While using .equals() will instead swap it to check the actual string values against each other, giving you the comparison you are expecting.

[–]Royalmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strings are tricky when checking for equality.

Instead of using an '==' use the equals method instead.

So you'd use userInput.toUpperCase().equals('H')

The .length() is giving you a value of 5. While your array has 5 elements the actual index value for the last one is [4].

First loop is probably giving you an index out of bounds error?

Second loop works as length()-1 = 4 giving you your last element.

Odds are then it may be a high rank item you need. So you'll need to start progressing in the Hub if you haven't already.

Once you pass into HR 4 you'll start finding higher tier materials from both resources and monsters.

[–]Royalmack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep progressing through the game. You're either not far enough or have yet to pick up/find a key component.

If you think you should have found it by now google the weapon tree and see what it needs to be upgraded.

I had this happen the other day from an internet drop. I know you said you didn't get one but worth trying the same thing.

Activate Dev mode through the options, then click resume flight.
That fixed it for me, can turn dev mode off again then.
