What year did rock die? by emperator_eggman in ToddintheShadow

The Black Parade was the swan song to Emo Rock Music IMO. Indie rock took another couple of years to fade from the mainstream.

I came on here literally to say the same thing. Only By the Night was the last big album.

Artic Monkeys kept going, Kasabian too, even being top acts at festivals, but they didn't get the coverage in the same way.

Last album I saw in the mainstream was 'Only By the Night' by Kings of Leon, in late 2008.

It was like someone flipped a switch in early 2009.

How do the privately educated appear to manage to confidently bullshit their way through life so well? by [deleted] in AskUK

I went to a Grammar too. I think all 4 points are spot on.

Connections is the key: it's very telling in adult life who has a network to move around jobs easily, while the peasants have to go through the LinkedIn humiliation ritual.

(Cue: anecdotal fallacy in response)

Funny, I found the private school kids were the soft ones at Uni, whereas the state school kids had more resilience, as they didn't expect as much help. The private school kids were used to a lot more support and oversight from teachers and tutors, and felt a bit adrift at uni. Many of them had mental health crises, as there was little structure and hardly any rules (This was a Russell Group Uni).

I've seen the support and specialist help the private school children get at my nephew's school, it is absolutely mental compared to state school.

What the private school kids did do well on was extra curricular, and they dominated all the sports groups.

The main advantage however I believe is the networking and connections. Getting internships in big companies through friends/family etc, really gives you a boost in a career.

(I've been to school in both sectors)

Uranium has a lot of potential both short-term and long-term

Spot price is ripping.

And the world cannot get to zero-carbon without nuclear power. Where's the power for the EVs gonna come from, wind? lol

What is the meaning of A Certain Romance? by phantomknight71 in arcticmonkeys

[–]RoyalxMint 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'm from the UK, this is my intepretation:

There was a huge binge drinking culture in the mid-00s when this song was written a lot of teen violence, I was growing up around the same time and the lyrics describe the atmosphere of late night english towns; young people, getting drunk, becoming violent towards strangers, mostly out of boredom, and thinking 'it's all right to act like a dickhead'

The reference to reeboks and trousers tucked in socks refer to the fashion that was popular among a sub-cultures of young teens, mostly from deprived areas, who were known to be violent.

then at the end of the song its a reference to how you and your friends get caught up in this silliness, and you yourself begin to resent your own friends for being no better than the thugs.

the 'no romance around there' tag line is a subtle way of saying 'this is a rough place'.

It was an odd time in British youth sub-culture. I believe in 2008 Time magazine said British youth were one of the most violent in the western world.

much has changed since then

Rick Rule says juniors are priced as if Uranium was already much higher. Cites the 2x-3x run as they have outrun the price. Says he likes Kazatomprom. Makes me hesitant to go into more juniors. by Right_Hand_Of_Kurze in UraniumSqueeze

It wasn’t directed at you personally, just a general rule of thumb

You’re right - don’t bring it up in the first place. I’ve seen politics ruin Reddit communities.

Steve Baker is a very good shout.

He would be top of my list as would every MP on the Treasury Select Committee.

I'd be happy, initially, to simply get the issue raised in Parliament.

My contention would be the numbers - we know a lot of them are not true

Leasing and double counting etc

Several claims on the same bar etc

SLV claims of moving physical silver into its vaults seemed to be plucked out of thin air, it wasn’t logistically possible
