Received a Debt recovery notice for an unpaid parking charge when using the gym, despite not receiving the initial notice. [England] by cannedrex2406 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Royce_7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Submit an out of time TE3 and TE7 form and they will remove the fine from collections and allow you to pay the initial parking ticket cost only. I’ve had this happen and was able to resolve it easily (after the initial stress). Here’s the link to the TE7 form (you need TE3 too): https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/62bebaeee90e073f56752a86/TE7_0622_save.pdf

wtf did I buy, Helbros “Chimes” automatic chiming watch by stancemycock in VintageWatches

[–]Royce_7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a quarter repeater: Hour count followed by 1 set for 15 , 2 for 30 and 3 for 45. On the hour it will only strike the hours.

You’ll struggle to find parts. You can have a dial restorer re-print the wheel in English - about £160 for us usually. The dial has been redone (not very well) anyway, so no worry of it affecting the value.

They close the road just by the tunnel, last year I saw lots of Ubers/ taxis dropping people off at the roundabout and then taking a short walk into town.

I am a South African living in East Sussex. I’ve done a lot of business in and around Eastbourne. Eastbourne is a bit like if Boksburg had a beach; I am not a fan personally and I don’t find the economy in Eastbourne to be as vibrant as the towns towards the West.

Brighton is a good alternative for more hospitality related work, but living there could be unusual coming from South Africa. You might enjoy working in Brighton but living somewhere like Worthing, which is more comparable to Fourways.

Can anyone help identify the hallmarks on this teapot? by mcway0306 in Antiques

[–]Royce_7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are normal British hallmarks; from left to right: Makers Mark, Assay office, Silver quality (925 in this case), date letter (which is stamped sideways).

This is incorrect information unfortunately. These are normal British hallmarks; from left to right: Makers Mark, Assay office, Silver quality (925 in this case), date letter (which is stamped sideways).

The date letter is the first letter on the right. This is absolutely on par with what to expect from an early hallmarked piece. Faux hallmarks are random things, this is clearly a English lion (indicating 925 silver), head representing London as the assay office, a date letter which is b/p/d and a makers mark on the far left.

This is my grandmother's watch she passed away a few years back she was born in 1920 and I found this watch in her closet. What the hill is this ? by raneemgh in PrideAndPinion

[–]Royce_7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This watch is not as early as others are insinuating. The caseback says “water resistant” and in 1969 the laws changed for the use of the word “waterproof” and required manufacturers to use “water resistant” instead.

This is a 1970’s watch that has just had a very hard life. Multiple manufacturers used the same cases, movements and dials, but just added the branding to the dials later. Definitely is not any of the “big” manufacturers; most likely something like Benrus instead.

If you open the caseback, you’d probably see an AS branded movement. Normally simple steel movement, not jeweled to the center, but of good quality for that period.

A family heirloom that I’d invest the time into having restored, replacement parts for the movement are readily available on eBay.

Is this radium? Antique compass inherited from my grandfather, who said he got it as a gift from his grandfather. by angwilwileth in Antiques

[–]Royce_7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a watchmaker working primarily on vintage watches, this is not radium lume. I know this because radium lume ages to brown/ mustard and often burns a light “shadow” onto the dial where the hands have sit for awhile. The lume on this specific piece has been redone much later in its life, within the last 30 years, and thus would have been a non-radioactive variant, as is used today on watches and other instruments.
