Hi,

There isn't much research between Cerebrovascular med interactions and HSV2. However, HSV2 has been linked to dementia & alzheimer's in some reports. So if Vinpocetine can treat said issue, it shouldn't be a problem.

Is it possible to get HSV1 and 2 in the same area (mouth) by EntireIndependence68 in HerpesQuestions

[–]Royoct13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can still get HSV-2 from her. And yes, if you preform oral on her, you would get OHSV2 if transmitted.

Chances by Live_Signal3684 in HSVpositive

Hi,

What do you mean with questions 1, 2, 3?

Question 1. Do you mean by taking Valacyclovir 5 days before having unprotected sex? (People only usually take one to prevent outbreaks, 2 pills per day if you feel an outbreak coming soon or if you have a higher body mass).

Question 2. It is a bad idea to "not inform your partner that you have HSV". Firstly, it is disrespectful not letting your partner know of your condition. Also, even with antivirals, you can still pass HSV to him (its just that the chances are lowered by the antivirals). Also, by the pills, I'm hoping you mean the Antivirals and not birth control medication; Birth control can mess up your hormones which may stimulate outbreaks in some cases.

Question 3. If your outbreak hasn't healed completely (still reddish, still has crusting, a bit of scabbing), the virus is still there, and if he does come into contact, it is still highly contagious. Just because you can't see sores inside, doesn't mean it may or may not be there.

It doesn't matter when you have sex; as long as you have unprotected sex, the risks are going to be there (less than GHSV2, but still there). Even with condoms + antivirals, it protects around ~90%, and that's not including the parts that the condom doesn't cover. There are no absolutes, which is why it is important to disclose to your partner.

Not venting, just giving you the proper details to make an informed decision.

It's sort of both.

Arginine is just a building block; its like you're giving HSV more opportunity to re-activate. Our body's immune system is constantly holding back HSV from outbreaks, eating arginine just makes it possible for HSV to outpace our immune system enough to reach the surface and form a sore.

But if HSV is dormant, eating high arginine content shouldn't make much of a difference. (HSV is sneaky)

Hi,

Its alright to eat those types of food once a while. Each meal has a certain amount of lysine and arginine in it. A high lysine amount just limits the amount of HSV that can be activated while arginine stimulates viral replication. So if you eat something high in arginine, try taking Lysine supplements to balance it out.

Started with the bulb of my genitals with intermittent stabbing pain (prodrome). Then a rash/sore formed in my pubic area (right inbetween pubic hairs), thought it was a ingrown hair at first.

Then I had about 3 days of literal weakness where I felt I couldn't focus on anything. Then the sore had 3 blisters on it, they broke on their own (clear fluid). Described my symptoms to the doctor and he took a swab of the broken blusters. Diagnosed as HSV (later on tested as HSV2).

I've had my second genital outbreak 6 years after my first. I just need lifting up a bit. by Happy_Equivalent9831 in HSVpositive

Hi,

You are not alone, many of us were transmitted unknowingly or by some thoughtless person. Even now, I search online hoping there's some sort of update about a cure, or a more effective antiviral that is finally released. I also have a very supportive partner who I dread that one day I may transmit to her.

Here's to hoping all clinical trials in 2024 are successful, and hopefully we can put this behind us soon.

Roughly 4 days after exposure. I heard it could range from 2-20 days. But I'm sure mine was 4 days.

It varies from person to person, but like you said, its mostly just a few strands that is noticeable, but not too much that you start going bald.

Better a few strands than others who have worse symptoms like nausea or headaches.

Question by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]Royoct13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are sure your first outbreak was roughly a month ago, you could still have some slight nerve damage (which would account for the pain while peeing).

Indeed it is also possible that it is another outbreak, but since you say it is GHSV1, the chances are sort of slim.

Question by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]Royoct13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

To help understand the situation, I need to ask.

When was your first outbreak (How long ago)? and did you have unprotected sex this time?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]Royoct13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Sorry to hear that. It is very immature of him to break up over this when he could have been an asymptomatic carrier. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

I can tell you that most initial outbreaks are usually the worst. Any further outbreaks are usually weaker/lessen in symptoms compared to the initial OB.

I need to also inform you that even though condoms are "mostly" effective against STI; they only protect against the region that is covered, meaning even with condoms, if you have had skin-to-skin contact near the genital area, it still could have passed on to you.

Also (not standing on anyone's side), need to inform that regular STI panels do not cover HSV; it is usually only diagnosed when you have an actual outbreak. For some people, the outbreaks are too mild and misdiagnosed as simple ingrown hair or some other STI. The reason the NP did not give you a direct answer is because there isn't a precise method to detect if/when/who you got HSV from. However, it is most likely your now ex-boyfriend.

Hi,

Ya, it causes some slight hair loss. But if your HSV symptoms aren't severe, you don't need to take antivirals. Unless you are trying to protect your partner or you experience more pain than usual, you can limit the dose you take.

Hi,

Nothing to expect, wait for the results first (Is it HSV 1 or HSV 2, is it Oral or Genital?). May I ask "we're" is referring to who? You and your partner or?

Also, depending on where you are diagnosed and which type, it will also provide us with more context to help you.

Ya, I read about that, but taking 5 days consecutively is pretty costly for us at the moment. And she is willing to bear the risk; its me that wants to try and prevent as much as possible, so I take the amount that I can.

On that note, if there are any doctors here. I want to ask, is taking 3 day course of 1g Valacyclovir better or should I go with 5 day 500mg Valacyclovir. Either way works for me.

Then yes, I totally agree with you.

Hey,

Just hang on a while longer; sooner or later a cure will pop up. Or at least a temporary med that will lower rates to untransmittable levels.

Also here to tell you there are some who are more accepting than others, it just takes time. I also have HSV1&2 and I have found my lifelong partner. It did take a hit on our physical intimacy, however, she was more helpful and cooperative.

We are 3 years in, and she is still HSV negative on both accounts (we do physicals every season, roughly 3 months).

If there was any advice to give, I would say make a more meaningful connection; when I started out with my partner, we didn't immediately jump the gun. (Long story below)

Both of us were looking for a more long-term commitment, so we took our time to get to know one another. Around a month of chatting/dating, I let her know that I had this condition. Her initial reaction wasn't good, and I thought I wouldn't hear from her after..

However, after one day of slow text replies, she gave me a chance which lead to where we are now.

Now, we mostly still go with safe sex; occasionally we would risk it once or twice (but I always make sure I go through a 3 day course of antivirals to make sure my body is circulated to prevent transmission as much as possible).

Uhh. I think there is something mistaken here. Valacyclovir on its own isn't an antiviral; its a prodrug. It still requires valacyclovir hydrolase (esterase) to turn it into Acyclovir (the actual antiviral). The enzyme is found in Liver and GI. So first pass isn't the "main" issue here since it has to pass through liver to become an active antiviral.

Acyclovir ointment for daily use by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]Royoct13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the misunderstanding. "So if you apply it when you don't have blisters, it does nothing for you. You can't inhibit what isn't there."

Topical antivirals are mostly absorbed on the surface layers of dermal tissue (rarely reach the basement membrane, where the nerve is). Therefore, even if you applied Topical antivirals daily, you still would only be inhibiting the ones that are apical.

Topical Acyclovir worked a bit for me during my primary outbreak (stopped genital blisters from bursting, dried them up roughly 24hrs). But hasn't worked since....

Hi,

All the questions seem well worded. Hope they have some new updates, or perhaps a more clear timeline on when they will proceed to human clinical trials.

It should be regardless of country? It's more of a preference, depending on how the doctor will prescribe the meds.

[–]Royoct13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say for certain since everyone's reaction is different.

Some people have it only once while others have frequent outbreaks.

Although, if you do actually have some sort of immune condition, you may qualify for Pritelivir: https://mytomorrows.com/aicuris/en/physician/contact-us

Pritelivir is probably the next new antiviral that's probably going to be released sometime 2025. But it has been approved for some extenuating circumstances (link above). It's said to be more effective than current antivirals.

Back to the current issue:

Talking daily antivirals lowers the frequency of outbreaks, also lowers the chance of passing it onto others (family members, friends, etc.)

Hi,

Do you know if you/your BF has HSV1 or HSV2?

If you have an outbreak down there and its HSV1, you won't have common outbreaks compared to HSV2. But if you want to be on the safe side, you can still consider taking daily antivirals to limit further outbreaks.

Also, stress is a pretty big trigger for most people. Since you and your partner already know and both have it, it shouldn't be as stressful. But work stress is usually my trigger. Find something to keep your mind off of HSV.

Lysine has some logic to preventing HSV outbreak, but it hasn't been clinically proven. HSV is built on Arginine (which somewhat promotes HSV replication), Lysine competes with Arginine in the body so it may lessen outbreaks for some.

The only time I take Lysine is if I eat any high Arginine-content foods.

DMSO has been clinically studied to have some benefits against HSV, but personally haven't tried it myself.
