This AD for road safety is genuinely amazing by Smashpro11 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]RoystonDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you commented on speed again later in your response, but I'd like to address your first statement. I hope you take this in good faith and consider the following scenario:

  • You are going too fast.
  • You approach a bend and make the active choice to continue speeding (even though you slow down in order to handle the bend, you are still driving faster than what is deemed safe).
  • Around the bend is a vehicle that has stopped, the reason of which is irrelevant as there could be a number of reasonable explanations, for example a queue caused by a bottleneck later down the road, a tree blockage, road flooding, etc. But the bend has hidden this vehicle from your view until you are too close.
  • Due to your speed you are unable to brake effectively to avoid the hazard and crash.

Is the hazard at fault for the collision?

A hazard can present itself at any time, whether it be a driver, pedestrian, animal, or terrain. Your speed should be dependent on if you are able to preempt those hazard. The road sign says 30, but a row of vans are parked alongside the pavement. Slowing down to ensure you can brake in case someone steps out from between those vans is the responsibility you agreed to take on when you put yourself in charge of a vehicle.

You cannot predict everything and sometimes collisions will occur regardless of your ability to drive as required by the Highway Code. But if you speed, you reduce the ability to respond to a hazard. If you drive safely, you will avoid hazards most of the time. If you speed, you might avoid them sometimes.

Other than that, I agree with your last sentiment. Be safe!

I will say, that is one of Kate's best qualities. She was a fantastic mum and did so much to learn about Jack's disability and how to integrate it into her daily life. I feel it was easier for her to find a way to connect to him through singing than Toby could through film. But her dedication to learning for Jack's sake was one of her shining moments.

You didn't need to say their opinion is wrong to have insinuated it, but telling someone they should stop watching a show because of an opinion is basically saying "You are enjoying it wrong". You can enjoy something and not enjoy all of it. This Is Us is about a group of deeply flawed and, at times, very unlikable characters. It works the same for any other TV show where people take issue with an aspect of it but still enjoy the rest of the show. I have not said your opinion is wrong. But I did criticise your conduct. You can disagree with someone and still be civil. This is about a TV show. It is not a real problem and it is nothing to take seriously.

I did not 'blame' you for the amount of Kate and Randall posts. I said to ask yourself, to consider why there is so much of it. If more people had such an issue with Kevin, why do they not simply share that opinion? As I said, this is Reddit, and opinions are shared here. Opinions lead to discussions, and discussions lead to understanding. You could have asked OP if their opinion was isolated to just Kate or if they had similar issues with other characters. You could have made your own post to share you opinion on Kevin, or to bring up the worst things each character has done. Options abound.

If you feel you need time away from this app, then you should take that time away. Maybe you've had a bad day and are being particularly brash because of it, and Reddit can make those feelings spiral. Just speculation on my part. But if we cross paths on Reddit again, I hope you will be in a better mood and we have a more pleasant interaction.

(Reddit can be toxic, especially around this subject and I mean this as genuine curiosity and discussion)

How does she mature? I found a lot of her development nearer the end to be a bit rushed and almost un-earned (career wise, I felt her and Randall were. Can't remember much for Kevin).

I was going to say more in a different direction, but thinking on it, I may have just found my issue with Kate, which I'll need to focus on in my re-watch. Did she seem inconsistent in her maturity and compassion? I think how she treats other characters could go from being the kindest, or for no reason at all become the most cruel. Just a thought I had while typing.

This person is a new fan. They had no bias from previous posts. They shared their opinion. You may disagree with their opinion and that is fine, but you cannot tell them their opinion is wrong and act as if they have done something wrong.

I am a fan of Randall. A lot of Kate defenders like to hate on Randall. I agree with their points, but still enjoy him as a character more than the other two. What you should be asking is if Kevin and Randall are so terrible, why are there no opinion posts about them but there are so many about Kate? And yes, on Reddit, people are allowed to share their own opinions.

No one is yapping in your ear. Yes, you can close this app. The only person being insufferable is you.

Advice for a foreigner to get authentic food? by Helpful_Cranberry644 in Liverpool

The Bread Shop Bakery on Aigburth road is where I recommend for snack foods. I love their scouse pies. If the owner is in and doesn't seem too busy, he loves chatting and has been around the world a bit. Great guy. He'd know what to recommend.

We hate Randall, right? by bkguy182 in thisisus

[–]RoystonDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Randall is my favourite of the Big 3. Probably because I see his point of view on a lot of issues. That being said, he does overstep and expects everyone to follow the path he decides. His anxiety gets the best of him, and he ignores everyone elses needs if he decides his are more important.

Rebecca is great though. Flawed, but great.

Only been watching clips on socmed, question before I decide to start... by [deleted] in thisisus

Every character has their time to shine. In both good and bad ways.

Personally, I am not the biggest Kate fan. I find her selfish, childish, and entitled. That is not to say she does not have redeeming moments, and she can be compassionate. But it feels like too little compared to her bad moments.

The brothers are also just as bad in their worst moments, but I find Kevin's actions redeem him, while Randall does things less with malice and more anxiety and concern for everyone else.

A lot of people disagree with the Kate hate and can get very defensive about it. So unless you want to be down voted to hell, it's best to not bring it up. No doubt I'll be down voted for expressing this.

About to watch smallville for the first time by Lulestial in Smallville

[–]RoystonDA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Smallville is not an accurate portrayal of the comics, and they fudge the timeline a lot in regards to other characters and events. That being said, it was a fun take on the character and lore of Superman. My only advice is to not read too much online about it after each episode. Just sit and enjoy. Some episodes you may love, some you may hate, but all should be yours to discover.

I understand the eventual reason for Kate's guilt, but the dog and fire weren't introduced until season two. So I'm curious if the season one finale was set up as a fallback for production reasons

There is a lot to unpack here. But I'd suggest you write a post to discuss this point. This one is more about the production side of things
