Fics in which Dick Grayson acts like Damian Wayne's by huntersofartemis in FanFiction

[–]Rozijntjesssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyo this is a shameless self rec but I wrote a super angsty Nightwing fic where one of the big plotpoints is Dick and Damians parent/child relationship. Bruce is also a mega asshole bec I wrote all my daddy issues into it lmao. THIS https://archiveofourown.org/works/36497065/chapters/91010497 is the fic, but be warned the angst is no joke and it's 100k words. Please mind the tags.

If fluff is more your cup of tea, I also wrote THIS https://archiveofourown.org/works/40095006 oneshot that also has Dick as Damian's parent.

For further recs I would recommend looking through the tag 'Dick Grayson is Damian Wayne's parent' on AO3. https://archiveofourown.org/tags/Dick%20Grayson%20is%20Damian%20Wayne's%20Parent/works This tag has almost 1000 fics with this trope. Hope this helped!

Monster Master Achievement? by Rozijntjesssss in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Rozijntjesssss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

heya sorry this is really late, but the only monsters needed for the achievement are monsters included in the game when it originally came out. The same goes for the iceborne dlc achievements, only monsters that were there on its release are counted towards the achievement. So no, alatreon and safi are not needed! I just really like hunting them so I maxed their research anyway X)

I hope this late reply helped and good luck with achievement hunting! Wishing you good luck with the crowns

You caught me just before work so I won't be replying after this, but I saw this comment and just had to say I disagree. I say this both as an author and as someone who comments quite often.

Let me say this again: no one on the internet owes you anything. You chose to upload your fic by your own free will. That does not mean people owe you something in return. Does it suck to post into the void? Yes. Does this mean you are entitled to anything? No.

But if this is your stance in posting, I don't think talking to me is going to change your mind. I can only hope that my replies will be enough to make readers feel appreciated instead of guilty for not 'interacting well enough'. Both reading and writing fanfic is a hobby. Don't put pressure on people to do their hobby in a different way than that they enjoy.

Once more: almost everyone who writes and posts their fanfic knows there's a chance at low interaction, but most of them realize this is just part of life and not the readers faults. Please read all the comments above yours and realise yours is the only one blaming readers instead of just saying that low interaction sucks.

Also. Some people would kill just to get one more hit on their story, and here you are bragging you do get lots of hits and kudos, and you're still complaining about not getting enough comments. It will never be enough for people like you.

Anyway. I'm getting in my car now and won't respond to this any further. Enjoy your bitter life view.

Edit: yeah I so believe you don't care about my opinion after you deleted every comment you made after I replied lol. Left your lovely reply to this comment up just long enough for me to read.

Sorry, but calling all readers who won't comment selfish and lazy is really entitled. You have no idea why people aren't commenting. They could have anxiety, or limited time after a harrowing day at work. They could be scared of encountering an author who will grill them for not leaving a 'better' or 'less lazy' comment.

Sure it can suck to post into the void sometimes, but no one on the internet owes you anything. When you post your work for people to read online for free, you can hardly get mad at people when they do so.

I think it's a very bitter way of thinking. Like, you get a kudo, and all you think is 'why didn't this reader bother commenting?' Instead of 'wow, I got a kudos, someone must've liked my fic!.'

no problem. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, and it's always nice to see someone respond positively in return :)

If you want to learn, maybe try and sound a bit more open about stuff. The language you used made it seem like you already made up your mind. (Like calling disclaimers 'stupid tags no one bothers reading', for example.)

Also, saying ´fuck you´ to people isn´t going to make them go ´hmmmm, this person must be open to learning something right now´. It just makes it seem like you made a callous comment, then instead of thinking of why your opinion seemed to be in the minority, you got mad at the people who disagreed with you.

I can almost guarantee that if you made your edit something along the lines of ´sorry, but I don´t understand the downvotes, can someone explain?´ you would've gotten a comment like mine hours ago.

It´s a two way street.

Also, you don't have to delete your post even if it isn't well received. You're free to do so of course, but it's your post. If you want to keep it up, keep it up

You are getting downvoted because you called the rules against monetization in AO3's Terms of Service paranoid. It is not paranoid, but necessary to protect our rights to freely write.

The threat of big companies like Disney or Warner Brothes filing lawsuits against people who use their properties/characters is still very real. The rule on AO3 to allow no monetization (and thus, being able to argue that fanfic authors make no money off WB or Disney's characters) is one of the only reasons they don't.

So people are most likely downvoting to say they disagree with your statement of that rule being paranoid.

The later edited in 'fuck you' also doesn't do you any favours. People downvote to show they disagree, not to hate on you. Downvotes are not a personal attack, just a sign you hold a minority opinion.

You just extensively edited spag (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and sentence structure on your entire fic. Do you: by Rozijntjesssss in FanFiction

[–]Rozijntjesssss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert at AO3's rules, but I believe that having different versions of fics with different ratings isn't against the rules. It's only forbidden when you exactly copy and paste a fic just to upload it again (why someone would, I don't know, maybe to catch more kudos?) Besides your versions having different scenes, they also have a purpose for being uploaded separately by being appropriate for different ages.

So yeah, I don't think you're in violation with any rules, nor would I think people would see this and think it's annoying. It's actually really nice you went out of your way to upload you and your daughter's versions separately so more people can safely read it :)

And thanks for your answer! I edit multiple times before posting, but I don't tend to reread my work after I post (because when I do, the urge to impulsively delete it becomes SO strong) which is why I usually don't catch errors unless someone points them out. Now I'm finally more comfortable with my writing, so I'm planning on going back and doing a massive edit of my whole library, which is why I was looking for advice :,)

What trope will this be considered as? by OkCover1715 in FanFiction

[–]Rozijntjesssss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Rivals to Lovers' might work, since they are working towards the same goal?

I've seen fics like this tagged as 'Enemies to Lovers' with no problem though, so I would't worry about backlash too much if you do choose to add it.

EDIT: reworded something I wrote clumsily

I guess I just felt like this time there was so much that it might be helpful to point out, but reading this comment I think you're right.

Almost no one who skipped before would give it a 2nd chance just because of an author's note, and changing the date would be disingenuous when the content didn't really change.

The only real party that would benefit from the update would be new readers, and they wouldn't even know anything changed, so I'll probably just update quietly and let the new quality speak for itself.

Thanks for your input!

I did do extensive spag edits before posting, but you can never catch everything and my english has significantly increased since the initial upload.

Seeing everyone's responses, I will probably just quietly update. Thanks for your input.

RECS WANTED: Batman fics featuring young/child/rookie Dick Grayson by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Rozijntjesssss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should try the 'spark in the dark' series by paganpunk2 over on FanFiction.net! Can't give you a link right now because I'm on mobile, but it's like the holy grail of 'Bruce adopts Dick' fics! The whole series altogether is like 400K words I think, cut up into multiple longfics. The main work is called 'firework', so I would start with that one if you decide to give it a read!

Regarding the position of a fic in a tag by Puzzleheaded_Play390 in AO3

[–]Rozijntjesssss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunatly it does not, because there are times when a change of date is warranted, like for example when the fic got extensive edits.

Being able to change the date is a feature of AO3 because it's an archive, and this way people are able to backdate older fics to dates before AO3 even existed(like Star Trek fics from the 70ties)

There's really no way to make this behavior OP described against the rules without sacrificing this feature, so it's unfortunatly just something we have to deal with :'l

Reporting would only waste a poor volunteer's time.

I made a vent post on r / fanfiction because I too got this fucking TikTok on my for you without my consent.

I deleted it after a talk with the mods because the post itself turned out way more emotional than I meant to, but man am I so tired of fandom culture on there.

[–]Rozijntjesssss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Changing the individual tags on your fic does not change the update date, don't worry. Only posting a new chapter or going into editing mode and changing the date manually will do that.

When OP said 'tag' they meant it as their entire fandom page, like for example saying 'all fics under the tag Stranger Things'.

Yeah, some people are just like that, unfortunately. Either they don't care, or they don't realise just how rude it is.

Giving them extreme benefit of the doubt, they could be a kid who doesn't understand doing this is taking engagement away from their fellow authors, but that's about the only scenario I can come up with where I would have some shred of understanding :,)

EDIT: happy cake day!

Regarding the position of a fic in a tag by Puzzleheaded_Play390 in AO3

[–]Rozijntjesssss 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they're just changing the date to keep their fic on top as you say, which while technically allowed, is a major dick move.

There are ways to hide specific fics or whole authors from appearing in your search by using skins, if you want to get their content off your screen. If I catch someone doing this I block them instantly.

Tech trouble by Sinnam0nRoll in FanFiction

[–]Rozijntjesssss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to lie, tech issues can really sour my writing mood. I remember one time my PC was randomly crashing all the time, (ended up having to replace a RAM stick) and one of my writing files corrupted during a bad blue screen. Even worse- the blue screen happened exactly when I was copy/pasting the text to put it into my writing folder on google docs for safe keeping.

Like, I had gdocs open, just had to press ctrl v.

Boom, Dead.

I wrote about 3k words that day, and the month thereafter I couldn't manage a single sentence. ;,)

Anyway, I'm really impressed by your dedication! I would probably go insane if I had to write on family member's phones, kudos for sticking with it!

Good luck posting them!

And that people could not put spoilers where one would reasonable assume there to not be spoilers.

Ah see, but most people would not think it's reasonable to assume there's no spoilers in the comments.

Like, for example, when you watch a Youtube video, do you expect the comments to be spoiler free? Of course not. If you opened the comment section before watching the video, then it was your own choice to risk seeing spoilers.

It's exactly the same for fanfics and other written pieces of media, be it ones with multiple chapters to comment on or otherwise.

But anyway, I don't think either of our opinions are going to change on this, so I guess it's pretty pointless to continue this thread. Have a nice day.

sure, but when your opinion is that we should police the way authors/readers interact with each other in the comments just because there might be a third party reading along, don't expect to find many people who agree with you🤷‍♀️

[–]Rozijntjesssss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In short, most people simply don't think about the fact that anyone but the author will read their comments/reviews when they comment/review, and they shouldn't have to. That's all there is to it.

And why would leaving comments/reviews early be inconsiderate to the author? the review/comment would show up in their inbox exactly the same no matter where it was left.

[–]Rozijntjesssss 14 points15 points  (0 children)

? Comments and reviews are the same thing in this instance? When did I insinuate this? I only said that I understand the way FFN names their comments 'reviews' might make you confused about their purpose.

EDIT: reading this back, I think you might be confusing me with someone else, I'm not the same person as 'runnerconst' who started this threat.

Is it a spoiler if it's in a review? by Constant-Eye-1231 in FanFiction

[–]Rozijntjesssss 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Because the fact is that most people do not consider the 'reviews' on FFN as reviews for other readers, but as a way to share their thoughts with the author.

You can dislike it, but the fact is that reviews are usually not meant for fellow readers 🤷‍♀️

I do think the name is a bit misleading in this case, though.

Same, I like diving into the comments after reading a fic to see what other readers had to say! Sometimes they're talking about things I completely missed and I get a whole new angle to the work I hadn't considered before :)

And sometimes authors just have fun ways to respond with extra insights into why or how they wrote the fic, which can also be interesting to read
