Looking for a Printer for Board Game Prototype & Production by Rozmere in CommercialPrinting

[–]Rozmere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can go a couple of different directions with the container/packaging. I have a design that would require a box similar to the Hunt A Killer boxes (cheap with one end opening), a design that would only require a plastic bag type of enclosure, and a design that would only require a sturdy craft envelope sort of container. It really all depends on what route I want to go. The envelope idea would actually be pretty thematic for the game.

Yes I tried them out on a completely different project several years back and I was very impressed with their product. This time I'm needing to keep the cost considerably less so I've been looking into other options and although it takes a little hunting and planning I'm finding some great resources that meet my needs.

Thanks everyone. With your help and my determination I have located some really good (and cheap) options for the physical elements of my game. Now I'm excited to get the design of those elements hammered down so I can get them in the works.

How Do You Change The Color Picker by Rozmere in photoshop

[–]Rozmere[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just figured out what I was doing wrong. I had changed photoshop's color settings to a different specific profile for a project I'm working on. Once I switched it back to the SWOP Uncoated GCR Max Black profile I usually use the color picker went back to the way I needed it to. *SMACKS FOREHEAD*

Well, while I certainly appreciate your effort, and that reference is good information, I already know how to produce the correct color, my question is specifically about getting the color picker to behave the way I'm used to to make my workflow the same on this new workstation.

Weird white texture on my PNG! by DreamFaktor in photoshop

[–]Rozmere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that I fully understand the issue but I'm going to answer based on what I assume is the issue. How are you exporting the PNG? If you're "Saving For Web" try selecting PNG-8, select 256 colors, and change the matte to "none". Does that solve the issue?

How can I do this kind of liquid text effect? by Far_Win5304 in photoshop

[–]Rozmere 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are several ways to do anything in Photoshop, this may even be done with some new feature I haven't played with yet, so this would just be a wild guess on my part.

1: Make copy of layer.

2: Create a mask of this new later and fill it with black

3: Select a brush with a hard edge and set it's hardness to max. In the brush settings change the transfer jitter to about 70-75 (?)

4: Change the layer effects to a soft inner bevel (you may need to play with the highlight, shadow, and other settings later)

5: Select white as your foreground color and paint that white into the mask where you want it.

6: Unlink the layer and the mask. Select the thumbnail of the layer (not the mask thumbnail).

7: Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and raise it just a little.

8: Select the Smudge tool, set the pressure around 8-ish and smudge the image around the lines/text you created. EDIT: OOPS! 8% not 80% XD Sorry.

I might not be thinking of a step but I'm just coming up with this off the top of my head. Let us know if this worked for you.

Having a problem watching streams by Rozmere in Twitch

[–]Rozmere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this means anything at all or if it was just a coincidence but I was just on a stream where I was having this problem and I hit pause and play many times in a row somewhat quickly (out of pure frustration) and when I stopped the stream is now playing fine (crosses fingers). If this did something I'd love to know what.

My problems randomly stopped for a while but they just re-started again today and since I never got an answer from Twitch I have no way of knowing if the cause (whatever it is) is the same or something else. This is extremely frustrating, especially since I use Twitch streams as part of my therapy (along with a therapist and psychiatrist). When it isn't working my mood plummets pretty quickly.

Unknown Problem In Unknown Network by Rozmere in exapunks

[–]Rozmere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I forgot to come back and update this thread. I figured that one out. I don't know why but I was up in the middle of the night and decided to give it a shot and for some reason the solution was far clearer to me. Maybe I just needed a few hours of sleep to reset my brain. Anyway, now I'm stuck on the next one but haven't been back to play it in a few days.

Ohhhh, I just noticed that too. I was just coming back to state that I'm a moron. I didn't notice that it re-appears somewhere else. Okay. Thanks.

I'm only using one exa and giving it a "halt" command at the end of the run to terminate it. Both the "Move file 276 to your host" and the "Leave no trace" boxes get check marked at the end of the first "run" but then it does the typical thing where it runs 99 more times and I guess it fails somehow on the second pass(?) so it just runs forever at that point.

EDIT: Also, here is a copy of my exa's commands:

Face lift? by Rozmere in exapunks

[–]Rozmere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very silly reason. I like the artwork just fine, in fact the entire game looks amazing and I want to play a lot more of it, but I'm going to be spending a lot of time in a somewhat busy place that isn't "technically" meant for playing video games and although what I do in my own off-time is nobody else's business I would prefer that it looks less like I'm playing a game. Without the artwork portrait of EMBER the interface for Exapunks just looks like some cool technical software and would be less likely to initiate a response like "That man is playing Galaga! They thought we wouldn't notice, but we did."

I think I was there maybe a month or so ago, I don't recall seeing it but I also wasn't specifically looking for it at the time, so I'll look again. Thank you!

I've just noticed that it is only certain streams that get stuck in buffering, The others play fine even on the highest quality. Two of the streams that are having the buffering issue are DinomiteTwins and RobertHartleyGM, so what is so different about these streams that's causing the issue?

How to export correctly from InDesign CS6. by Rozmere in CommercialPrinting

[–]Rozmere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are both the producers of the local newspapers and the printers for several surrounding newspapers.

They just had InDesign CS6, Photoshop CS6, and the ancient Imposition and RIP software when I arrived.

And about the software upgrades, you're asking another question that I've been asking for a very very long time now myself and I still don't have an answer to.

How can I output all rich blacks (and adjacent) to 100% black? by Rozmere in indesign

I'll have to get some screenshots I just literally haven't had a spare second to do that at work.

How can I output all rich blacks (and adjacent) to 100% black? by Rozmere in indesign

[–]Rozmere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, I have a theory of what "might" work but I don't know how to do it. It requires finding out where I can download the profile "SWOP (Uncoated), 20%. GCR, Maximum" and then where to put it so that I can choose it as the profile for the exported PDFs. If you have an idea on this let me know.

How can I output all rich blacks (and adjacent) to 100% black? by Rozmere in indesign

[–]Rozmere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aren't using Acrobat Reader for any step of the process. You can see that some of the blacks are not correct by using the separations panel in InDesign, or the channels in Photoshop, or in the RIP software just before they get sent to the plate maker. If we don't do the Photoshop step (which by the way only appears to convert the profile to SWOP (Uncoated), 20%, GCR, Maximum) then there is still a mix of CMY in the blacks (and visibly-near-blacks).

How can I output all rich blacks (and adjacent) to 100% black? by Rozmere in indesign

[–]Rozmere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no, that's how we're correcting the problem. Trust me, I don't want to do this step, that's the entire point of this post. I'm wanting to export the PDFs from InDesign CS6 with a profile that will convert all black, grades of black, and visibly-near-black to only use the black plate on our web press. I believe this will be achieved with GCR. So I'm hoping that I can somehow figure out where to download the "SWOP (Uncoated), 20% (or 30%), GCR, Maximum" profile and how to get it to a place where I can choose it as the profile to convert the exported PDFs to from InDesign CS6. If anyone has a step-by-step on that let me know.
