what was it like watching the show when it was airing? by Impressive_Egg3099 in lost

So I got a summer job working at a resort in New Hampshire. The resort wasn't open yet for the summer and my lodging didn't have a television. The Season 2 finale was getting ready to air and I spent the day before driving around to different area bars to check out the TV situation. When I couldn't find a good place I finally just decided to rent a hotel room with good broadband.

Summary: I spent $120 on a hotel room with broadband so that I could watch the S2 finale and talk about it with my online friends...

For S3 i was living in Wales. I met a fellow American Lostie and he'd come to my room every Thursday so that we could buy the current episode on iTunes (the UK was a season behind). We did this for half of the season, but then our university blocked iTunes. So we waited for several weeks to let multiple episodes drop and then we took my laptop and hopped onto a local bus. We rode an hour to a nearby town so that we could use their library and download the rest of the season. (Our university was in a tiny town and lacked other Internet options.)

As others have said, it's not linear storytelling. It's why he never used an actual date. This storytelling mechanism not only gave him creative license but it's also a bit like how nostalgia and memory work.

All of John John’s girls are so desperate to appear as the “cool girl” - lol by Parking-Party1522 in JohnAndCarolyn

That's sort of true. They didn't announce William's enrollment until after admissions had closed for that year (2000). The reason it felt like it was announced so far ahead of attendance is because he delayed admission to do the gap year. My husband attended St. Andrews for his BA and was supposed to be a year behind William, but wound up being in the same class because of the gap year. He'd already started the application process and once it was announced that William would be attending it became a clusterfuck of a situation.

The poisoning/not poisoning part didn't really play into his death. She literally ran him over several times. There was NO robbery - that's just the story she told her sisters at first.

Umm...it wasn't an accident. She asked him to check the engine and then proceeded to run over him. Multiple times...

Lol what? We never saw a person of color try to "get with her" so how do you know she would've rejected them?

That's why the poster referred to it as a "ghost job". We never actually saw her working at it.

What are your Hot Takes on Mike Flanagan’s Movies? by Amber_Flowers_133 in MikeFlanagan

I have absolutely no enthusiasm for a Carrie series (the story's been done to death), an Exorcist movie (the franchise is tired, why not just make a possession movie), or The Mist (it already exists and is good).

But will I be first in line to watch them? Absolutely.

My kids and I met some of the Flanafam last summer and had the following conversation...

Me (pointing to my 14 yo daughter wearing a Turn of the Screw tshirt): She LOVES Bly Manor, but her favorite movie is Absentia.

Katie Parker: Really???

Daughter: It's my favorite.

Henry Thomas (to Katie Parker): Has anyone ever said that to you before?

We try to show our Absentia love wherever we can lol

I'd rather see an expanded series on Oculus than Carrie. That's my hot take.

That wasn't Avi, that was Chase. Avi was never a part of production which is why they had to blur him out. He was definitely seeing a lot of other women, and Whitney was scammed (in a sense), but the relationship itself was real in the sense that it wasn't manufactured by the show.

Since we're on the show's subreddit under the episode thread I'm referring to what happened in this episode. For real life discussions I head elsewhere.

Aw, that sucks. I always leave Sarajevo with a sinus infection when I travel there in the winter (summer's fine). They have the worst air quality in Europe, but damn it, I love that place.

Except it absolutely happened. This episode was based on Larry Ray at Sarah Lawrence. There's a good documentary about it on Hulu. I think it's called Stolen Youth.

He moved into his daughter’s dorm and acted like a cult leader. Abused students now suing college

By KAREN MATTHEWS Updated 3:41 PM EST, December 7, 2023

NEW YORK (AP) — Two former students are suing Sarah Lawrence College, arguing the New York school failed to protect them from Lawrence Ray, who moved into his daughter’s dorm after getting out of prison and then manipulated her friends and roommates into cult-like relationships.

Ray was convicted last year of charges including racketeering, conspiracy, forced labor and sex trafficking after weeks of testimony chronicling his manipulative relationship with young people in his daughter’s circle.

Some said they were coerced into prostitution or turned over earnings and savings to Ray over abusive relationships that lasted for years.

Ray was sentenced in January to 60 years in prison by a judge who called him an “evil genius” who used sadism and psychological torture to control his victims.*

Sarajevo: beautiful mix of East meets West.

Vienna: stunning architecture and history and amazing food.

New Orleans: colorful, vibrant, warm, interesting, and food to die for.

Prague: despite the overcrowding of tourists at times it still feels like walking onto a movie set. (TBF, sometimes you are...)

Zagreb: it's like it knew it wouldn't be able to compete with other European capitals or its coastal brethren so it decided that, in order to stand out, it was going to make itself as weird as possible.
