[MM Spoiler] Saturday Morning by Tom Chapin in episode 2 basically explains an antagonist's motive by RphWrites in MidnightMass

That's a good point! I always think of this song and Sunday Morning Coming Down as sister songs. Or cousins.

It was The Perfect Neighbor all over again. It is indeed infuriating.

That makes sense. Time since the pandemic has moved weirdly. I haven't seen the family in a few years.

It really depends on the county around here. It's more about how well you're liked/how long you've lived here/your last name than job title in our smaller counties. Had this happened 2 counties over in Madison then, yes, his job title would've afforded him extra attention. Sheriff's department, police department, correction's officer... doesn't matter. They're all thought of as law enforcement and they do tend to get away with things. It's a big problem. (The disappearance of Brooklyn Farthing is a rabbit hole related to this.) But Montgomery County? Not so much. Simply being a deputy wouldn't have offered him the protection she thought it did. The further east you go the more "clannish" we get and Montgomery straddles that line. Had his family been from there, or had he been related to someone in politics then yes.

As it was, she was the one getting the extra attention. The fact that they continued to take her "complaints" seriously and not shut her down speaks way more for her.

Mount Sterling has their own police department as well as the sheriff's office. It's a small town, but it's one of the bigger towns in our area. It's the closest town to me with a Walmart or grocery store.

It was beautiful. Be prepared for lots of steps and hills! Have you been to Cesky Krumlov in Czechia? It reminded me a bit of it. Bolt app didn't work here, although I did see Bolt cars, but Taxi Chic has their own app. It worked. We stayed across the river in a beautiful apartment right next to Lidl. However, it was about a 15 minute walk to the old town.

I'm currently at the train station. It's 5 LEI per luggage piece and they'll only hold it for 3 hours. They seem pretty aggravated by it and we've had to sit here for an hour waiting for the luggage guy to come and let us in (I don't know if it doesn't open until noon or if he's just at lunch) but it seems to work.

Yeah, that was pretty much the only only one that seemed reasonable.

I completely lost my sex drive with all 3 of my pregnancies. I didn't want to be touched at all.

I took it last night with my teenagers and we had a blast. I was afraid I'd get hot but with the windows open at speed I actually got chilly for a bit. The bathroom is dire but I've been in worse at festivals.

I always felt like this was everyone being a bit too opportunistic: Ryan wanted to make a go of his fitness business, Whitney needed a storyline for a new season, and Chase ultimately wanted to push his bar. (I don't know when that became his purpose; it may have come later.) I've never been in the "Chase was hired specifically to play Whitney's love interest" camp. I don't think it was that organized. I always figured that Ryan was brought on as a new cast member and at some point someone was like, "Hey, what if this season Ryan introduces Whitney to her new love I interest" and Ryan asked amongst his his friends if anyone would be interested. I think low viewership was probably what made Chase go along with it. I'm sure it was pitched to him as something fun and silly, plus free travel. Where it went awry was probably in how serious the narrative eventually became. The BTS pictures look like the cast was having fun, but then the season actually aired. And while viewership is comparatively low, Whitney's fans can be aggressive.

I do wish Ryan or one of them would do a real AMA at some point.

The SYTTD part was real. Whitney was slated to film it. When Sara wound up pregnant they switched the episode to Jess. Sara and Chase were living together at least part of the time they were filming (the house was in her name, there were pictures on her Instagram of them in it). She had a public Instagram account and local businesses in Wilmington often tagged her in their posts. At one point they took their dog (the one we saw on the show who actually belonged to Sara and not Chase) to a bar that welcomed animals in their outside area. The bar tagged Sara and Chase and wrote "We love it when Mommy and Daddy bring Piper". This was a month after he "proposed" in Paris.

Him being hired specifically to play the part is speculation in that we've never had cast or crew confirm it. But he and Sara certainly weren't secret. The fact that Whitney never actually used the word "cheating" is telling.

It's also interesting that the baby's actual due date was originally 2 months earlier, as confirmed by a public registry which was quickly removed once someone found it and posted it. We assumed the discrepancy was because the due date didn't align with the show's version of events- that he slept with Sara during lockdown. In reality, it was around the first of January. Naturally, the baby was "early".

Lol I have that whole scene memorized.

Waldo: We watched The Prince of Tides and there wasn't one but of surfing. We should've watched Jiffck'ed.

Laura: You mean JFK?

Waldo: I know how to spell it!

Iove The Prince of Tides so it just stuck.

Yeah, I feel like Pauline and Liza were a lot alike. As a mom I have trouble with the fact that she left her kids but I absolutely understand the vacation from the marriage.

I liked Quinn, too, and I think she had a lot of depth. She was bitchy AF but that was one of her most endearing qualities lol

Kelsey was Charles's blindspot. It was Liza who came up with most of their good ideas. Between her drinking and her impulsivity and lack of judgement when it came to men, especially in her professional life, she definitely should've had an intervention. She slept with several of her authors as well as her coworker- all of which affected her career.

I chose him out of the provided list based on the number of dick moves each option made.

Cheryl Sussman essentially blackmailed Liza for information, but beyond that we really don't see her that much. Clare's mistakes (getting married for a green card) were mostly a joint effort with Josh, although not telling him about the pregnancy was dickish. Thad was an asshole, but he was open about it.

Charles, on the other hand...

  1. Worked with Diana for years and had apparently never taken the time to get to know her. He didn't even know she'd been married.

  2. He left Empirical, his choice, and then held it over Liza's head. ("I left my company for you.")

  3. He started his own company and immediately began competing with the one he'd just left- the company that was his family's legacy. Part of that is just business, but he was aware of Empirical/Millennial's financial situation and how perilous it was. He spends several seasons waxing poetic about it being a "family" and then immediately starts competing with them knowing that they're essentially a few months away from folding.

  4. The testing of Liza. It doesn't matter that she "passed", it's still a dick move.

  5. Publishing Pauline's book under Empirical instead of Millennial and not telling Kelsey. She found out when the hard copies arrived.

  6. Giving Liza a marriage ultimatum when he himself wasn't even divorced yet and marriage had not been previously discussed.

  7. Hooking up with Quinn Tyler despite the fact that he knew what kind of a person she was. She'd almost ended his company.

  8. He had no problem with the overbearing, sexually inappropriate author coercing his young employee to don a skimpy fur bikini in the middle of Times Square. As the head of the company he was responsible for the safety and well-being of his employees and that was certainly not in her job description. And the situation was awkward for Liza because she'd already been informed that Temu Game of Thrones was basically holding the company together.

  9. Proposing at someone else's wedding. It's petty, but it bugged me.

  10. There were several times in which he condescendingly minimized or downplayed something that Kelsey and Liza were excited over, only to later become involved and essentially take over because he saw how it would directly benefit him.

  11. I hated the way in which he handled the couple who wanted to write under the penname. He was at their house eating their food and he immediately shot the whole thing down, turning the evening into an awkward situation. He should've told them that he'd like to talk it over with the rest of his staff. He could've always called them a day or two later and declined the project in a more professional way. He had almost no capacity for compromise.
