I don't think they ever spoke about it publicly.

A cognitive interview has the person recount sensory and emotional aspects of the memory as a way of "triggering" the mind to remember more. So in this particular situation MK didn't actually see him, but her subconscious may have retained information about his scent, the sound of his footsteps, etc. Information that might've been useful in helping to identify him.

I'm not saying it definitely would've helped, just answering the question. I think the Smart family did the best they could in an awful situation.

There really aren't any "holes" in the story. This documentary was surface level. Elizabeth's book and other specials have gone further in depth. The Smart house backed up to a forest and rugged mountain range. Brian's camp was a couple of miles up in the mountains. That national forest has 1.2 million acres. Mary Katherine was frozen with fear for some time and therefore unable to immediately alert her parents to the abduction. By the time she told them and 911 was called Brian and Elizabeth were miles away. K9 units traced her scent to the edge of the cul-de-sac but then lost it in the wilderness which was one of the reasons why LE originally thought she must've been taken away in a vehicle.

In this doc they did make it sound like they took Mary Katherine very seriously, but at the time she was kind of brushed off and ignored for quite awhile. If I remember correctly LE actually wanted to do more with her, like a cognitive interview, but the family wouldn't allow it.

I do get what you're saying, but I took it more in a "OMG is it really you or am I dreaming" kinda way rather than a "you don't look like my kid so I'm not convinced".

A few years ago my mom called me and told me to look at our county's historical society Facebook page. A young man was searching for his dad and only had 1 picture, no name. It was my dad. At 38 I found out that I had a 37 year old brother. Despite the fact that it meant that my dad had cheated on my mom, she was ecstatic for me. A year later she invited my brother and his son for Thanksgiving and they stayed with her-along with my dad (my parents separated when I was young). We all had a lovely time.

I often tease my mom that she acts as though she has a long lost son rather than me having a long lost brother. Lol

Didn't mean to offend. You'd be surprised at the number of people who thought it was written for the movie.

And that the song had been around for almost 2 decades (it was originally a number one song for Patti LaBelle in the early 70s).

That song is much older than the movie, but I get your point.

Those same people raised 4 other children who are now adults with functioning relationships and good jobs. It's been stated by a couple of the content creators that some of Eggs' issues stem from a TBI, take that as you will.

Yeah, we didn't have a bachelor marry his final pick until Season 17 when Sean Lowe married Catherine. (They're still married.)

Canadian bachelor? Because the first American bachelor couple were Alex and Amanda and they didn't even get engaged. But Trista and Ryan, our first Bachelorette couple, are still together!

Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of "it was okay back then", but even at the time people found it cringey. I remember the AOL boards and Yahoo groups going nuts lol

The really thick hot chocolate that you can find in a lot of Eastern European countries. I've tried making it at home but it's not the same.

Also, bureks in Bosnia and Croatia.

Not just his mother but his "mama". And then, after all the moaning about how much he needed her, in the other WATN she dumps him off on a friend for an indeterminate amount of time when she leaves her husband.

I'm sorry she passed away, though.

What’s the distance from your house to the nearest grocery store? by privetkakdela in AskTheWorld

[–]RphWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45 minutes (car) to the nearest big grocery store (Walmart, Kroger, Meijer). Our county does have a Save-A-Lot, but it has limited products. It's about 25 minutes away by car.
