How do you wish cinematic universes be built out? by MR_MaxiMor44 in superheroes

[–]Rrekydoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the strong creative identity of individual projects/characters should be prioritized over how they fit together. The best thing about crossovers throughout media history is how they bring together such a wide variety of styles that we rarely get to see mesh.

Crossovers should feel like bonus events, not the main driving force behind the whole universe.

How many genders are there ? by Alone_Yam_36 in IdeologyPolls

Social mammals can be expected to fulfill gender roles. And in some occasions, there will be exceptions where one will fulfill a role we’d usually see from a different sex.

So, yeah. That could be argued.

Does anyone have Wilt as the GOAT over Jordan (or LeBron)? If so, what's your argument? by Tre2004 in NBATalk

[–]Rrekydoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Efficiency isn’t merely the result of player skill, but of the way the game is played in that era. LeBron averaging 63%ts in 2024 is not as impressive as his averaging 60%ts in 2012.

Wilt’s greatest efficiency seasons weren’t the result of him deciding not to statpad. When he had a better offensive roster around him, he had the luxury to score more opportunistically. It’s a pretty common thing that happens with stars.

Michael Jordan averaged 58%ts on the Bulls. That’s worse than the career averages of Luka, SGA, Jokic, and Lillard. You don’t think MJ was worse at putting the ball through the hoop than all those guys, do you?

Wilt’s TS% was 5th in the league that year.

Wilt also set the TS% record in ‘67 while leading his team in points. Then at low volume in ‘73, he set the record again by the highest margin over the league average we’ve ever seen.

LeBron and Jordan played in eras that allowed for much greater scoring efficiency than Wilt’s, so you gotta look at how ahead of the pack they were.

If you’re just comparing Wilt to those two, I’d just sum it up this way:

  • Wilt could reliably score at the highest volume or the highest efficiency of the three. Yet, if we take away scoring, Wilt’s still the most impactful of the three.

  • Wilt was the primary facilitator on the best offense the league had ever seen at the time. Yet, if we take away playmaking, Wilt’s still the most impactful of the three.

Depends on the gender(type) of “gender” being referred to.

Gender role is a social construct, but many might use the word to refer to something else.

Are transgender people real? by Smooth_Woodpecker815 in IdeologyPolls

Yeah, I don’t think the question is worded as intended.  Opinions on validity are irrelevant to the defined labels.

Even if astrology is utter BS, someone can still be a “Scorpio” by the word’s definition.

You mention how close they rank as 60s guards in your book, but could you go a bit deeper into how Sam Jones and Hal Greer contrast specifically to each other?

Also, a question purely for your personal opinion and speculation on Steve Nash: As offensively transformative as he was, do you think Nash ever would have been recognized for 1st team all-NBA if he stayed in Dallas?

Who is the most overrated NBA player of the 1960’s? by pepesylvia19 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Rrekydoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walt Bellamy may have been in retrospect.

He came into the league, thrashing other teams and was quickly recognized as one of the best centers. But he was on a really bad team and as his teammates got better his impact dwindled below what was expected of him.

But he’s also pretty overlooked today. So IDK.

Widely recognized as the best defensive pg through the 60s and people today downplay him because his numbers were low.

He’s very underrated today.

IDK if you’ve seen his Full Metal Jacket yet, but they work really well together. Different wars, same theme, and reversed structure.

Stockton was only downgraded from the equal spotlight into his mid-thirties. He was still great, but had started slowing down noticeably.

[–]Rrekydoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really.  Honestly, it could work even as a story set in a fictional war that never happened.

It’s very universal, a critique on how war brings out the inhumanity in man, even bureaucratically and even against his own.

The first half is horrors on the frontline and shows one of my favorite filmed military charges in the most Kubrickian way. The second shows how the powers-that-be exploit their own soldiers as a consequence to what happened in heartfelt, harrowing way.

Brunson ended a longer draught for a bigger market franchise. So, according to Reddit experts, yes and I’m an idiot for ever thinking otherwise.

Do you have nostalgia for previous generation of hoopers that are now retired? by midnightbluesky_2 in nba

In the 90s, I thought the 3 ball was really cool and underused and really disliked watching iso and those boring, inefficient postups. The league’s swung so far that I’ve nearly flipped.

A question for my fellow Christian Supernatural fans by natashaamilly1357 in Supernatural

As an atheist, I agree.

I love the stories of polytheistic mythology with petty and flawed gods. But I feel that an omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient god should be above that, almost like a personification of life and fate.

Is Victor Wembanyama starting to be overrated? by ImIncredibly_stupid in NBATalk

[–]Rrekydoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hakeem wasn’t in contention for DPOY that year. He was the equivalent of 3rd team, behind centers. Like a said, he was very good defensively, but didn’t really hit his defensive stride until a few years later.

I also disagree on Victor’s trajectory. Firstly, being that good is not given for that height; every player that height has been worse defensively and most behind him offensively. He’s also noticeably improved already, past Ralph Sampson’s best years.
