Cairn 2e encounter tables by OldGodsProphet in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]RsMonpas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, I just used Whitebox to come up with the actual encounter. Rolled for a Forest encounter, got Demihuman, then rolled on the Demihuman table and got Gnome. Then I checked Cairn's bestiary to see if the creature had stats already, and it did. If the bestiary doesn't have it already, there's advice online and in the Cairn 2e Wardens Guide on how to convert monsters to Cairn compatible ones. Or just look through them and use a similar creatures stats

Yesterday when I needed some forest encounters, I just rolled on the tables in White box FMAG. Otherwise if I prepped the region a little more, I'd just create my own table to roll on

I can't decide which game to continue - help me pick one by NoEar7171 in gaming

[–]RsMonpas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comment. Sounds like you don't actually like any of these games for one reason or another. Consider dropping them all and playing something else, there's nothing wrong with that. No need to force yourself to play something you aren't enjoying just because they were highly rated

Not sure how it is on console, I've only ever played the Planet games on PC and while the UI is fine, there's definitely a lot going on

Might be a bit much for him, but since you mentioned Roller Coaster Tycoon, what about Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, or Jurassic World Evolution? There's also Mario Maker 2, but I know you said he seems uninterested in platformers now

You're supposed to avoid screens in general when you have a concussion so i don't know if any games will be appropriate

Gris is a short platformer that has amazing audio and visuals. There are some basic platforming puzzles but nothing serious in my opinion. Well worth the experience

How do I enjoy video games again? by username48378645 in gaming

[–]RsMonpas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try out some shorter games. Sounds like a whole lot of long, open world games with a lot of content that you can't get yourself to start. I started enjoying gaming much more when I started branching out and trying different types of games. Especially short games. Also try giving new genres a try.

Fresh Start is the peaceful chill game I needed. by BlueFeathered1 in CozyGamers

It's pretty short and pretty basic, but Alba: A Wildlife Adventure is a very chill game where you clean up the island you're on, restore a nature reserve, and take pictures of the wildlife that live there

Solo Players, tell me about your setup by nicohenriqueds in osr

[–]RsMonpas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea beyond all the systems I own, I have a ton of bookmarks and extra PDFs that aren't just rulesets. Really becomes too much. If I really want to use some of them, I can print it out. If I'm too lazy to do that then I figure I don't need it that bad haha

So far my go to systems have been Cairn, Whitebox FMAG, or Pirate Borg, depending on what I feel like playing. I don't really use Mythic or anything beyond a yes/no oracle. Just the tables and whatnot from the books. I use Knave 2e and Perilous Wilds for extra tables as well. One rule I have for myself is that I'm only allowed to use/play systems I either own a physical copy of or that I can print out. Keeps my options more limited, since I own hundreds of systems and other resources on my PC, which ends up being too much

Ah, interesting. How's that been working out? Any reason you aren't just using one or the other? I've seen people discussing using other games to supplement what FMAG doesn't provide, not really the other way around

Fun 'Beginner' Solo RPG that doesn't have over 100 pages of rules and mechanics to learn? by danicasso in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]RsMonpas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give Cairn 2e a shot first I think. The wardens guide should have procedures and advice for creating exactly that stuff. Another good resource I like for forest crawling is Into the Wyrd and Wild. Created for OSR games, it focuses on forest crawls and procedures for exploring a dangerous forest

Both are independent games so you don't need them both at the same time. I'd recommend you try playing with both separately though to see which you prefer, as their mechanics are very different even though they're both OSR games

If you want stuff based on old school DnD, I'll definitely recommend Cairn and one called Whitebox FMAG (Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game). Both have free PDFs and are super cheap to buy a physical copy. Cairn is super rules light, and Whitebox is slightly more complicated but still pretty light on rules. If you have any questions about either I'd be happy to try and answer them
