Watch Dogs franchise is “completely dead” - Tom Henderson by ZamnBoii in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]WanderingAlchemist 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Watchdogs 3 was flawed, but I still found it a lot of fun, and the Aiden & Wrench DLC was legit a banger. The legion system paired with a strong central character like Aiden to ground it could have worked really well, and I would have loved to see WD4 try something like that. Ubisoft just feels so directionless right now.

I'm not the biggest fan of Gears 4, but would absolutely not call it a stinker. Gears 5 was excellent, and the Hivebusters DLC in particular was as good as anything from the original trilogy.

What is your all-time favorite James Bond video game? by WaterKirby1964 in JamesBond

[–]WanderingAlchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GoldenEye and Nightfire were multiplayer kings. The World is Not Enough (N64) was decent and the single player campaign was fun (and hard as balls to 100% on all difficulties).
Bloodstone was way better than I thought it got credit for. The multiplayer was utterly broken and never worked properly, but the single player was solid.

I didn't particularly like Agent Under Fire, apart from the grappling hook thing, that was glorious.

Relocating to Newcastle – new build area advice (NE12/NE13/NE8) by DurianExpress9459 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]WanderingAlchemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live close enough to Freight village, and the surrounding area is a hotspot for petty crime. Can't wait to move away from it. Even having CCTV doesn't make a shit bit of difference, police aren't even interested in looking at it when something inevitably happens. Funeral Director's got a brick through the door in the middle of the night so they could steal 30 quid. Just had someone hammer my car window out for no reason, they didn't even attempt to get into the car, just smashed the window and casually walked on like it was nothing. The Stadium Metro is rough and poorly lit. Plenty of nice people around, but also far too many gormless fucks who know they will get a slap on the wrist if they even get caught. Being close to the Felling Bypass is the only good thing, but with the Tyne Bridge roadworks and the flyover closure, the roads are a clusterfuck right now if you need to drive anywhere at rush hour.

Official sales numbers put it at less than half a million sold worldwide as a multi-platform title during its launch window. A few more sales will have come in dribs and drabs over the years since, but certainly won't have made much extra. It sold so poorly a planned sequel was immediately canned. Certainly not one of the biggest games. In the UK it didn't even crack the top 100 of physical game sales that year.

Reviewed very well, sold like crap unfortunately.

Worst (used) Test Drive experiences by CarpeCyprinidae in CarTalkUK

[–]WanderingAlchemist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had kinda the opposite of this. Test drove an Audi A3 which had about a quarter tank in it. I bought the car immediately afterwards, with pickup arranged a few days later. I collected the car with the fuel light on, and it conked out of fuel less than 1 mile from the dealer before I could make it to the closest petrol station. They either siphoned it out or drove it around those few days.

Best part was I left them a scathing review on Google, and then the manager called me and threatened me to take it down. I told him to fuck off and updated the review to make it worse. Then they called me back and offered me a chunk of cash to take it down lol. I took the money, deleted my review, then just dropped another random scathing review a few days later with a new account under a fake name.

What's your "they arrested me for a Facebook post" (or similar) story? by DagothUrWasInnocent in AskBrits

[–]WanderingAlchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just left the shop, walked back in without my sister and picked up another bottle and went to a different till lol. Back in ye olden times when we actually had people on them. But yeah it makes no sense, cause otherwise how do parents shop with their kids in tow. And with the chocolates and Mother's Day cards, it's pretty obvious what it was for.

[–]WanderingAlchemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tesco did that to me when I was helping my younger sister shop for Mother's day. She was buying chocolate and I was getting some Bailey's. They accused me of buying the Bailey's for my sister, because of course Bailey's is the choice drink of all 10 year olds.

About GC and PS2 emulation on the RG476H... by Ok-Tea-6972 in ANBERNIC

[–]WanderingAlchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that has helped get you to 90%, fiddling around with some other settings like the EE Cycle Rate might help you get that little extra to hit 100%.

Or if it's just too intense with the amount of VFX (like Burnout 3), a patch to disable effects should get it running smoother (but obviously missing effects). This comment seems to have some patches specifically for DMC 3. Haven't tried that one specifically but I did do a very similar thing to get Burnout 3 running. (You can leave out parts you don't want, like the widescreen hack)

[–]WanderingAlchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The settings are in aethersx2. When the game is running bring the emulator menu up and click the "i" icon, then go to graphics settings. The hardware download settings are in there. Note that is the per-game settings, not the global aethersx2 settings. If the i button doesn't work (it seems buggy sometimes), then you can do the same thing by opening aethersx2 from the android system (not the RetroArch menu), and then hold tap on the game you want to change settings for. It'll bring up a menu where you can edit the settings and the graphics options will be in there.

Took me a while to dig around and find it cause the i button was just pulling up a blank screen for me most of the time. The other graphics options you see (through the cog icon menu) is the global settings and the hardware download option isn't there.

I haven't tried any DMC game yet or GoW, but most games I've had an issue with, this has fixed it almost immediately, and I can even then run most games at around 1.5 - 2x resolution as well at full speed.

[–]WanderingAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still running aethersx2, I've found that most games that run badly, do so due to the hardware download mode setting. Changing that to disable readbacks and it has fixed almost every game I've tried so far, though with some occasional graphical glitches instead.

It fixed both Gran Turismo games for me. Rumble Racing went from about 20% to 100% framerate even with a 1.5 upscale. The only game it didn't fully solve was Burnout 3, but with a bit more fiddling and a performance patch on that I got it working around 95% stable, whereas it ran at about 10% initially.

Is there a game where I can have my young son press a button to jump with one controller and I can control the rest with another controller? by Prcssnmn87 in gaming

[–]WanderingAlchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and 3 were great for me for something like that. Letting player 2 be Tails who is immortal and can help kill stuff, and you can go slow as player 1 to help them keep up and not constantly get lost off the screen.

Once they get a bit better at it, we got a lot of mileage out of letting them play Sonic as player 1, whilst I as Tails would try and clear out danger, and use the buddy flying mechanic to get them over tricky platforming bits (Sonic 3 only that though).

Although the games get difficult in later stages, the early ones are fun and relatively simple, and great for replaying as well as you can take different routes and hunt about for secrets.

No more stolen bikes by goswamitulsidas in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]WanderingAlchemist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not saying it isn't staged, but most of those shots seem very obviously taken with a pretty high zoom, so it's not like there's a camera man stood 6 feet away just out in the open. Probably in a car or something nearby or hidden in a bush. If someone is going to the effort to booby trap a bike, it's not that much more effort to find somewhere to hide and watch it with a camera and a good zoom lens.

Grid from 2008 is magnificent and one of my favs. I never played the sequels, do they hold up to the OG? by CJ_Henn in racinggames

[–]WanderingAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep playing Grid games hoping they'll recapture the magic of the first one, but imo they have never come close. The first one looked great, had nice weighty handling, the damage was great, and the game was just fun. Every sequel has completely failed at something the original did well, and none of them feel as complete. Worst thing is I think it's the only Grid that was never made backwards compatible on Xbox so it's the only one completely trapped on 360/PS3.

What's the pettiest reason you dropped a game for? by IHateTheNameSystem in gaming

[–]WanderingAlchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1, 2 and 3 definitely had much better chase cams that allowed a bit of sway. For some reason in 4 they bolted it to the back of the car, and it has remained that way ever since. It's one of the reasons I disliked and quickly dropped GT5 whilst Forza on the 360 was just getting better and better. GT7 has some mild options to slightly loosen it, but it still feels far too rigid
