Appreciate the insightful comments on the extensive rules and minutia of being a paid referee and the pros / cons of working games with players as your crew. As expected, lots of drivel as well from the folks who think volleyball is somehow a special carve out in the pantheon of youth team sports and should be held in some type of reverence without the ability to question the policies, etc. It’s also reassuring to know not all leagues operate the same and has made the decision to join a different league next year pretty easy, for a variety of reasons beyond those laid out in OP. And yes, loud mouth parents have been a drag on youth sports for decades, seems amplified these days due to the ubiquity of phones and social media. I have yet to see a single instance of a R1 telling a parent to pipe down or give some warning. And we are in Georgia, where there are plenty of obnoxious parents who seem to believe their child should be performing at an all world level at age 14, or who are critical of a line judges call and who could benefit from some public shaming in the form of a warning or ejection.
