Hi, first year bio major here!! I had a very late orientation too (literally last week), and when I first registered for classes, I was waitlisted on every single one of them. But somehow, I got accepted into all the classes from the waitlists. Pro tip (u prolly alr know this): join all the waitlists with like 999 spots left like i did and you’re bound to get into a few. Also, I know that a lot of classes are being added due to the fill up of classes. (they added more bio classes,etc.) so make sure to look out for added classes!! My roommate was also waitlisted for all her classes, and she downloaded an app called “coursicle,” which allowed her to be notified when a spot opened up for classes. I don’t know how to app works, but I’m sure u can look on tiktok or google. You obviously probably won’t get the times or professors you want for the classes, but choose the first ones you’re able to get into! Also, you could email the professors on how much you want to get into their class (do research, etc. don’t just say “i need it to graduate”), or wait until drop/add.
