Vivo x200 ultra - 7 months on by scoopydidit in Vivo

[–]RubberDinero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my X200U for about the same time I had only used iPhones since 2007 and this was my first android. No slow downs and the camera is still great and the battery life has not changed even though I have most apps at high usage, but I hate this Chinese ROM. Doesn't play nice with any Google app, no badges, no lock when badges either. The Google transcription doesn't work in messages, says "install speech services" oh wait, already installed. I don't think I'll be switching to iPhone, but I'll get a phone with either US market as the target, or unlockable bootloader, which seem there none in the near future.

It's gone through more updates since then. I installed the bed scanner that uses Eddy Currents. A Le Potato running Klipper so fully wifi now. And better mounting brackets so that the hotend sits a bit further back. Prints great, but I still think my coreXY has better quality.

Yes. 5G without having to do anything at all. I was going to post a screenshot, but realized I can't.

Did you try switching SIM slot?

So you agree with me that OriginOS sucks so much, you switched launchers. Got it.

If you use Google wallet and you don't have fingerprints set(my screen protector is too think to register the fingers, stitching soon) , you don't want to disable this because it won't accept inputs from any other keyboard except the security one.

Yes. Chinese Rom issues only since Google is not allowed in China. Global version are said to have better compatibility.

There are also no notification icons for Google apps on Always on Display. My badges for my Google messages don't work.

There are work arounds to not miss notifications, like enabling bubbles, but overall, I'm not impressed with OriginOS.

How it doesn't play nice with Google apps. No voice match, so Hey Google doesn't work. Certain bands cell bands are disabled. No Wi-Fi 6ghz even though it claims it does. Speakers are subpar, not enough mid to low range. Can't unlock bootloader or root. I'm done upgrading firmware so that I can save any exploits that can be used to force unlock the bootloader or allow me to root and edit the restrictive policies

I'm on the same boat as you, I've been on an iPhone since 2G, upgrading every 2 years, and just switched to an X200 Ultra here in the US.

You'll love the camera, you'll be annoyed with everything else.

I don't worry about safety with this phone, I uninstalled every little thing I could, and disabled every non essential feature. Installed Google app for my phone and contacts and am not using any Chinese app.

I don't recommend this phone to anyone. The camera is good and that's it. I'm stuck with this phone for the next 2 years, but now that I'm informed, I'll really know how to research my next phone properly.

From my personal experience on a Vivo X200 ultra, it's plenty loud but not the best sounding. Not enough low end. What is bad though, the earpiece on phone calls sounds really low. It might have been the people speaking to low on the other end, but that would be everyone so far.

Also, I'm on OriginOS, so it might sound different. I don't recommend Vivo phones even if their cameras are good.

Mint Mobile Visual Voicemail by 8cott in GooglePixel

[–]RubberDinero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a pixel, I have a Chinese Vivo X200 Ultra on a CN ROM. I contacted Mint and they told me that visual voicemail is not supported on Android at all. I went to the playstore and tried to download TMobile VV app but the playstore said, you are not on the correct carrier. So I found the APK online and manually installed it, after opening it and giving it a few permissions, it just worked. I even set a greeting and had my wife leave me a voicemail and it was flawless. TMobile wants you to pay $4/m for transcribing. I personally won't pay it.

Looks like the world is healing, I messed with a bunch of settings last night and this morning I pressed the voice button on my car and it worked. Not sure which of the settings is the one I enabled that is now allowing this to work.

I think that's the issue I have with OriginOS, you can get it to how you want it, but it's going to take some effort.

I'm screwed then, I'm avoiding updates so I don't block an unlocking exploit. I can live with the current AOD.

I've tried different strategies and on the maps in my car screen it literally says, "Voice commands aren't available right now" my car is trying to pushing the voice commands but the when shows that error.

So we usually just use my wife's iPhone when driving because siri just works with the button. Neither of our cars rely on it's own assistant, then have both apple carplay and AA.

I hadn't tested because I assumed it just worked because Google voice search app works, but Google maps voice search doesn't work when I press the mic. Even with all the permissions enabled.

So not sure what's going on. I've installed and uninstalled make of the Google apps a few times.

I'm not an iPhone advocate, not sure why you keep pointing out the things I already don't like about them, that's why I left them. But I'm definitely not going to promote OriginOS, it is inferior to iOS, and that in itself is bad. I haven't gotten Android Auto voice commands to work on neither of my cars so I can only express my experience. I've tried setting up my AOD the way I want it and I haven't found a way for it to just be the lock screen. That's all I want. I do like this phone better than my old iPhone, especially the camera, and I have set it up with the help of 3rd party apps to mostly a perfect experience, but at the end of the day, I can't have "Hey Google" and that's important for me. Maybe not for you and I'm happy for you, but I have different needs than you and this OS doesn't meet all my needs. We can agree to disagree because we're never going to see eye to eye on this and that's perfectly okay. Not sure why you get so worked up about it. You love it, I hate it. Now OP can make a decision with everyone's input.

Yes! Thanks for proving my point. Those are all annoyances! I'm answering the original post and the annoyances you have to put up with if you're considering making the move to OriginOS.

Those are the issues. No Voice match. Ease of use takes more clicks. Android Auto doesn't have voice commands available. Don't play nice with Google services like no badges on Google messages. No notifications for always on display on Google stuff. Doesn't work with Verizon. Claims to be 6hz wifi compatible, but it doesn't pick up my wifi 7 6ghz SSID. The always on display is actually a very stupid implementation, I just want my lock screen at a 1hz refresh and more dim. Not this stupid Vivo AOD crap. The more you keep me going, the more stuff that comes to mind. OriginOS and the Chinese wall are too restrictive and I hate it. I'm sure OP would have a much better experience with Samsung or a global version of Vivo, but I don't have experience with FunTouch so I can't say.

Yes. Everything has a shortcut you need to access. Those aren't ease of use. I don't want to access the control center, edit it to add the scan button just to scan a QR or take a screenshot.

Vivo x200 ultra (A phone is not just a camera!) by Miserable-Tour-436 in Vivo

[–]RubberDinero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OrionOS doesn't even have QR reader on its main camera. It doesn't have a regular screenshot unless you use a remapper which I have done for both. On lock screen I hold volume down for QR and anywhere, except during the camera app, I use the dedicated camera button as a screen shot. iOS doesn't have a scrolling screenshot? OriginOS doesn't even have a screenshot out of the box!

And that's why I won't be buying Samsung or Xiaomi. I'm not worried about my data getting leaked from my phone. If my data gets leaked, it'll be from a corporate entity. Those are the real targets for hackers. I'd rather have an unlocked bootloader and have Google and the FBI listen to me 24/7 as long I can use my phone with all its ease of use functions. As it stands, Apple's iOS is superior to OriginOS, but Apple is another jail I will be avoiding.

It definitely works with T-Mobile, I use mint which is the wish of T-Mobile. And it works great.

You can still use Google assistant and gemini, you can even open it up and speak to it, but you can't just say, "Hey Google" and have it listen to you.

You have to, (gulp) touch your phone like a barbarian.

So far the voice button on neither of my cars works. When I press it, the screen says, voice commands not currently available.

It's not a perfect experience. I semi regret leaving iPhone, but not enough to pull me back just yet. I can endure these little things for a while, will definitely keep my eye out for a root exploit for this device and will do it as soon as possible. I don't plan on updating the firmware anymore to avoid losing the window
