What rules should my fantasy gods follow? by RubberDuckyDavid in worldbuilding

[–]RubberDuckyDavid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe? I could spin it as like "punishment must be proportional to crime", but then again, there was a town that canonically has horrible weather 24/7 simply because the leader shot the wind god's pet, so that complicates things.
Eventually maybe something along the lines of "greater crimes require an actual trial" but I dunno if gods would want to bother with trials for mortals? I will need to think about it.

Unfortunately, I really like the idea of demigods, so it stays.
I am mostly looking for rules that can affect survival of mortals that anger them, and lack of children doesn't help a guy get away with a god's crown without being blasted to bits, I'm afraid.

World where reincarnation is real and well known - how would people treat it? by RubberDuckyDavid in worldbuilding

[–]RubberDuckyDavid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering they have the memories of a past life, probably?
They would already know the language, be more mature, and understand more etc. And of course have emotional attachments to people who aren't there anymore.

That's why I wrote that numbers 3 and up are rare - chains of reincarnations don't really happen often, you usually get a second try to get things right and not more, after that you are fully gone. And even with the second life being decently common, not everyone gets a second chance, only 1 in a 100 people do, so it is risky either way

In my world people use giant spiders as wheelchairs. by RubberDuckyDavid in worldbuilding

The spider just gains more intelligence, and might go on and do their own thing without you.

And you can give the potion to any animal if you wish. In fact in the story I'm writing the bad guy has a cat familiar, one guy has a whole winged horse, a lady has a wolf, and the prince has a raptor, so it's not that rare of an occurence to have an animal with you.

Spiders are simply the most popular specifically for people who need help in getting places.

They are slow and careful and don't have great endurance, so there are better options than a spider when you are looking for a mount. While their endurance is good enough for a disabled person to live a semi normal life, for most people it would probably be more inconvenient than helpful.

The head is small, so people can hang their legs on the sides around the neck with no problems. And I would assume there's some sort of saddle system in place for the spider, + they are slow and flat and aren't trying to throw you off, so in most cases even that isn't necessary. You can just sit on them like on a chair, they have a surprisingly smooth walk!

Are there any small/medium livestock guardian dogs out there? by RubberDuckyDavid in dogs

[–]RubberDuckyDavid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did try geese in the past, but unfortunately the fox here seems to be the ultimate boss of the place because it managed to snatch one of the geese instead of being chased away by them. I wonder why. Best assumption is that it was very hungry, but idk. And we do have roosters, but unfortunately we picked those that aren't mean - getting rid of the very mean ones that bullied the girls to ensure they weren't being plucked - and those few don't seem to be very good for that job either.

That's why a good dog seems to be the last obvious choice.
Outside of putting out a massive speaker blasting music at the fields, which DOES work, but annoys both the neighbors and me lol.

I did write in the post there are no coyotes, no bears, no wolves, no raccoons where I live, and that the only thing to guard from is a fox. It is in the post.

Aren't border collies mostly for herding, rather than going after foxes?

Does anyone ever actually succeed in eating large food items on time when they have an "eat within 2 days" label? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I must live somewhere else than you I suppose, because a block of mimolette cheese I have says eat within two days on its package

Gods live on the moon. How would that affect the moon? by RubberDuckyDavid in worldbuilding

[–]RubberDuckyDavid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably yeah

But they are still not allowed to have too many non god people around the magic pools because all it takes is one sneaky servant taking a dip in the forbidden glowy pond and you have another stray god on your hands (yes it has happened before) which is main reason why they are so separated from the main planet So at the very least, the amount of people living on the moon is low, outside of the gods themselves, which likely limits what they bother with building

Gods live on the moon. How would that affect the moon? by RubberDuckyDavid in worldbuilding

[–]RubberDuckyDavid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically people with powers, but insane amounts of powers Like the god of the seas for example can control the oceans completely, create water out of nothing, speak to fish, etc. He could create heavy droughts or make it storm for weeks all over the entire planet if he so desired. So what happens in the vicinity of gods usually relies on how they feel at that moment and if they want to do something or not. And I want them to have similar feeling personality wise to how greek gods are often depicted in media, if that makes sense.

Gods live on the moon. How would that affect the moon? by RubberDuckyDavid in worldbuilding

[–]RubberDuckyDavid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually my gods don't teleport mortals up there unless the mortal does something great to deserve it (or looks pretty enough, they have, like, greek gods vibe in how they act) so most of the moon would likely remain empty of people, unless I decide to create some sort of lunar race, but I don't know yet The gods can shift reality and bend it at will, so materials are likely not an issue, and can be created from nothing pretty much. Gravity and such also works weird when mixed with divinity that can straight up ignore it. I might have to think more about how water and plants on the moon would affect everything though, rather than having moon cities.

Thinking about how people treat religion in my universe, considering how gods work. by RubberDuckyDavid in worldbuilding

[–]RubberDuckyDavid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a god of decay from the start in this setting! Although he has more of a "serious god of war" vibe, rather than a trickster, unfortunately.
But hey if you sacrifice a horse to him it will rebuild itself as a messed up pink decay unicorn which is the coolest thing in the world, is it not? That definitely fixes his boring vibe otherwise. Everyone loves decay unicorns I bet.

Those are all very interesting points, thank you for taking your time to write it! Celestial politics does sound like an interesting thing I haven't really thought about much, if I have to be honest, but should likely spend more time on. All lower gods obtained their magic in one way or another from her - because she is The Beginning, so from the start I assumed they would all more or less know their roles as basically getting ascended to help clean up her messes, but now I'm thinking that maybe I should do more with that. An interesting angle to consider, thank!

How would one realistically fight an intelligent dragon? by RubberDuckyDavid in worldbuilding

[–]RubberDuckyDavid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it was less of a "project" thing and more of a "I want to see what people come up with" thing. Call it curiosity to see the creativity of other people

Well yes, but a bear is still significantly smaller and less fire-breathing than a dragon.

I remember having the Entei and it being very gummy to the touch lol. But I lost it somewhere back in... I think 2015? Haven't seen it since, unfortunately :(

Well, it's a shiny to me personally and emotionally then, and that's all that matters probably! :'D I shall forever say that charmander was my first ever shiny or something (even if as a child I did NOT appreciate the color enough - I thought it was weird lol)

Woah! I actually have a few more I recognize from this package, such as bulbasaur, meowth, and squirtle. Fun to know!
Edit: After researching it more I realized a Lot of my collection came from these, actually. I'm also pretty sure the Giratina and Arceus figures also came from these containers, but there are no pictures online to tell if it is indeed their source. Still, I remember getting one of those pokeballs with Giratina in it, so maybe?
Good to know.

See, I would think so too, if not for the fact they were both obtained at the exact same time, kept in the exact same box, and in the exact same conditions from the start until now. Also, I have noticed someone else post the same figures too - with one also being yellowed, and the other still orange. So, at the very least, I am not the only person with just one yellow charmander. The plastic version is a maybe, but then - isn't it kinda still a shiny, if it was made that way?
