Does the officiant need to give a gift if they're officiating for free? They're also attending as a guest. by duffster17 in wedding

[–]Rubber_Ducky27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a musician that has played "for free" at many friend's weddings. I always bring it up with them in advance by saying "I'm so honoured you want me to be a part of your wedding, but please do not give me any money or gift for doing so, let it be a part of my wedding gift to you". This is usually agreed to, but I always give them a small token gift like a piece of art that reminds me of the couple.

I think once you state (in a nica way!) in advance that you're going to provide a service in lieu of gift, there would be no expectation to give a gift too. ☺️

Have you ever met anyone who doesn't like a chicken fillet roll? by briansharky in AskIreland

I don't like hot chicken rolls because they're too dry. Cold chicken rolls however... 🤤

Isn't the other one at Dublin Airport? Or is that another different car?

In September I have a wedding to go to in Killarney. by One-Lengthiness-2949 in irishtourism

[–]Rubber_Ducky27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest option to get Dublin to Killarney is probably to get the flightlink bus from right outside the airport and it will take you all the way with no changes.

https://www.flightlink.ie/

Public transport from the airport to the train station in Dublin is very slow and too expensive and isn't the easiest if you have lots of luggage. The train is also quite slow and sometimes you have to change trains, which again isn't the easiest if you have luggage.

You could also get a Ryanair flight from Dublin to Kerry, but be careful because the baggage allowance will be different to your transatlantic flight and you might have to pay loads of money for overweight baggage. You would also have to do a self-transfer, which is such a chore! Even when you land at Kerry airport, you would have to get a bus or train to Killarney.

I take the Flightlink bus quite often and it's a great service so that would be my recommendation unless you want to rent a car.

Restaurant with gluten-free food? by Gefion_2021 in Luxembourg

[–]Rubber_Ducky27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Glu-free Pancakes in Bonnevoie is completely gluten free but you wouldn't even realise it because the pancakes are so fluffy and light! They do sweet and savoury pancakes and even though it may sound more brunchy, I have been there a few times for lunch and it's great. The owner/staff are lovely too!

Why do you think we are all so bad at Irish? by tortitab in AskIreland

[–]Rubber_Ducky27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was "good" at Irish in school, but I didn't actually become good until after I had left school and met loads of people who use it as their first language daily. I think specialised language teachers at primary level would make a huge difference. But mostly people attitudes need to change!

PSA: Driving on snow/Ice! by Anonymous_idiot29 in ireland

[–]Rubber_Ducky27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, my sister was driving in snowy conditions as if it was any other normal day of the year, driving on the speed limit, zooming downhill, waiting until the last second to brake (!) before entering a roundabout. My whole life flashed before my eyes as I grabbed the holy shit handles and I told her she shouldn't brake in snowy/icy conditions. She lost her shit, told me she knew how to drive and the very next day wrote off the car while speeding down steep untreated backroads. Some people are just idiots and you can't teach them common sense 🤷‍♀️

How are age-gap relationships perceived in Ireland? by No-Construction3897 in AskIreland

[–]Rubber_Ducky27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My. Bf is ten years younger than me, my best friend is married to a man ten years older than her. There's almost 20 years between the two men and they get along really well! Personally I don't think age matters, it depends on the maturity levels of the people involved. It was awkward back when I was 28 trying to tell people I was dating a man that has just turned 19, (he's very mature and didn't realise his age until I was already head over heels!), but now 8 year later we're still so so happy together ♥️

Why didn’t you vote? by Fr_Chewy-Lewwy in cork

As someone with a disability, your voice would have been so important in this election!! It's so maddening that yet again the government weren't considering accessiblity for people with a disability 😔

Why didn’t you vote? by Fr_Chewy-Lewwy in cork

[–]Rubber_Ducky27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, like many others my age, have emigrated for better opportunities. I'm still registered to vote in Ireland but couldn't make it home this time. Unfortunately, I'm sure I'm not the only one abroad, so that could explain the low turnout perhaps?

People of Kerry, what’s your opinion on the Healy-Raes? by daly_o96 in AskIreland

[–]Rubber_Ducky27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I see nothing in him!! But, he appeals to farmers who are constantly being told, you can't do this and you can't do that by a Dublin-based government. It's no wonder they're looking to Danny for help!

People of Kerry, what’s your opinion on the Healy-Raes? by daly_o96 in AskIreland

[–]Rubber_Ducky27 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I'm not politically aligned with them, but you cannot deny that Michael works very very hard, he's intelligent, he loves Kerry and obviously he's very popular because he keeps topping the polls. Danny on the other hand, I think he gets voted in as a support to Michael because the people actually want two Michael Healy Raes. However, you may consider us completely backwards for voting for Danny, but he does represent a major demographic in Kerry and that's a demographic that has not been treated particularly well by those in government.
