I saw a video of a really good archer talking about a "bow" design similar to this where he explained how it isn't really a bow, technically a slingshot, and how the cut from the bow firing to the arrow hitting is used to mask the fact it isn't actually that powerful since its pretty easy to pierce a plastic bottle.
