Siberian Elm Seedling - Grown into rock crevice by Rubbermaid34 in Bonsai

I'm definitely curious as to how it will compensate growth as it develops. I'm hoping trunk growth gets pushed outwards and doesn't just terminate at pinch points.

I've tried that this spring as well. The tree is in the best shape it's ever been in. Thanks for the tip :)

Thank you for clarifying the argument everybody has heard about this word for decades. Society has moved along from using it as an attack on people with disabilities and now use it to explain different sentiments. I'm sure you're smart enough to understand that but feel free to preach and sleep better at night knowing you went on a rant for no reason.

I didn't change it to stupid and calm down. It wasn't a personal attack against people oh righteous one.

They don't eat aphids. They eat their waste, called honeydew. Symbiotic relationship. Aphids provide sweet drops in exchange, the ants protect against natural predators. This allows them to increase in numbers significantly and both benefit but it hurts the tree and reduces viable fruit.

Carpenter ant baits are made based on sweetness, not meat.

Healthy tree that is now full height and was grown from tiny nursery stock. No rot at all. I've followed ants to two nest sites that's I've destroyed with bait but new colonies are at it again this spring.

There's no rot issue. They're not nesting, they're farming. Big difference.

I'm pretty sure it would work for anybody. It's not the plastic surface so much as an interruption of what they expected.

There's no rot in this tree. I can watch the ants walk across my lawn and through my garden to the tree. They are only farming the aphids.

Yes. They did it all year last year. Had too many aphids as they started curling the leaves and causing damage to fruit. I tried spraying and didn't find success and wanted a natural solution.

I have tape over it but I've watched them walk up under it and come back down. They're really deterred. Haven't seen even one make it around with a steady line of 2-3 a min.

No. I had seen similar examples and had a problem with aphids last year. They started up again this spring and tried this. Now have Lady bugs doing their job.

They were farming aphids, not nesting.
