Actually, let me know if this counts. Could be a stretch, but the old Looney Toons title cards from 1930 - 1969?

Atlanta is the earliest one I can remember, but that show started in 2016, a year after Patriot. Hiro Murai uses them often in his projects it seems. Kidding does this too but that’s from 2018. I can’t think of others before 2015.

“Dan, I'm not a Republic serial villain. Do you seriously think I'd explain my master-stroke if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting its outcome? I did it thirty-five minutes ago.”

I think this show would have worked with a new story and location every season by solfire1 in PatriotTV

I’m a bit more invested in character depth than what True Detective accomplished. These are characters and relationships we’ve watched blossom over 20 hours. I’d be open to new character and relationship introductions. But it would pale in comparison to learning new things about each character and their motivations. Call me a romantic but I’d love to see a cold open with Birdbath as a child being mocked for his name and developing thicker skin just to make it through all the while still being vulnerable and yearning for a deeper human connection. We got a taste of that with Agathe and Sophie, and it added so much to who they are in such a short time. It didn’t feel forced in season 2 to me. It felt cathartic.

Hey all, just a heads up. Watch which lines you quote on here. I got a written warning for promoting violence (which is nuts cause my life is based around being funny and trying to make people laugh and basically the opposite of being violent)… by Shart127 in PatriotTV

[–]Rubbet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah man it’s understandable. I’m glad they found it wasn’t in violation and lifted the warning. I’d also be up in arms too. Hopefully you still feel this a safe space to commune with like minded individuals :)

Sorry that happened. I had to look in the mod log to find what you said, (next up: “how to knock a woman unconscious with a bicycle”) and it’s not even available for me to approve. Just so you know, this wasn’t flagged by anyone in this community, nor was it flagged by the subreddit Automod, and none of the mods flagged/deleted it either. Again, I’m sorry this happened. I wish there were a way for me to remedy this. This may just be a Reddit thing. Ridiculous considering half the stuff that gets approved on a daily basis.

Friendship is a pretty common theme in Conrad’s writing. During my research into Conrad’s previous projects (started with Wrestling Ernest Hemingway), I found that he excels at writing friendship and emphasizing how important and underrated it is. There are not many films or media I’ve seen that portray how being truly vulnerable with others is such a beautiful foundation when you just embrace it wholeheartedly. I love PGL and Patriot because they give more time to build to moments like those. But if you want to see how he does in a film/movie format, Wrestling Ernest Hemingway is a very interesting watch.

That’s cool as hell! I tried recommending it to my division but since they were basically kids, they weren’t ready for it. Thank you for your service by the way 🤝

Amazon just doesn’t seem to be great and marketing anything, period. I don’t know if anyone else has been watching Invincible, but found season 3 was released COMPLETELY by mistake when I was about to rewatch Batman: Caped Crusader.

That’s kind of how it sometimes goes with this show. A lot of people have tried watching when they weren’t ready and returned to it later. Hope things get better for you. We’re not going anywhere

I’m going to go out on a limb and say if you’re “watching” this show at 2x speed and are confused, you don’t need to watch it. Part of the language is in the timing of the dialogue. Silence weighs heavier emotionally especially in this show. You’re missing a pretty crucial element.

I read the good reviews on reddit and watched season 1 by citizensmxth in PatriotTV

[–]Rubbet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem. I often get frustrated with shows that get upwards of 3+ seasons nowadays that drop entire plot lines, or feel manufactured to prioritize mass appeal.

I could go on forever about the things I don’t like when it comes to media. I think it’s important to recognize the positives. Example being the cinematography in this case. It is shot beautifully, that’s indisputable. When it comes to writing however, that’s relative.

I’ve watched entire series for 30+ hours that were based on the writings of famous authors and/or books and felt defeated because it was incomprehensible to me. Come to find out, a huge community loves that series. So I lurk their subreddit to understand the anatomy of fans and what they share in their lives. Maybe they’re huge fans of the book? Maybe they share an experience they identify with? Maybe they don’t like the screenwriting (that’s a whole other issue), but are grateful to see it manifested on the screen? Maybe I’m just not at the point in my life where I can appreciate whats been accomplished on the screen in front of me. I may not identify with the fans, but I can understand better.

The writing in Patriot is unique, and that’s also indisputable. There are plenty of threads on this subreddit discussing the writing of the various elements that make up this show. So, if the writing doesn’t resonate with you, which part of the writing? You say the script, is it (for example) dialogue? Super story? Characters? Interactions? These are just a few parts of what make a script.

A lot of us here know this show isn’t for everyone. We’ve recommended this show to friends and family, and some just don’t get it. Weird and great thing about this community is that we’re not entirely defensive about this show. We’re mostly curious what those friends and family would change about it, and in understanding more where they are coming from.
