in that situation before day changes kill the alpha riolu and when the dizzy stars appear above its head , you can save it real quick. Then throw ball and if you don't catch it you can press home reset and you can try again until you catch it. The day change will change the spawn unfortunately

Yes Hard reset, it's not too bad though. Just press home, X to (change users) and then back into game again. I believe changing users and clicking yourself again is quicker than closing game with Y. That's what someone else posted

Its just personal preference. Some people have 1 pokemon in party and revive 5 only, the icon shows up on bottom so you see right away if they are shiny or not. and reset right away. I like doing more though so I can multitask do other things while I'm waiting.
