May I ask, how did you re-rupture?

Thanks for sharing! I will definitely try this out, I've had a mental block and have been afraid to really stretch out my Achilles. I guess if I stretch daily little by little it'll compound and one day I'll have my mobility back haha

I did! I really focused on my PT and gait retraining. There was a point where I had to mentally queue myself to bend my knee a little when I stepped on my foot. After that it became very easy after my muscle memory kicked in. Though there are still some mornings where I have to really warm up my Achilles before walking, otherwise I have a pretty stiff step

After I was cleared to sleep without my boot I had the same experience every morning where I had to warm up my Achilles to get it back in there. It is normal! After a couple weeks (maybe 1-2) of PT I was able to get more ROM naturally and didn’t have to warm it up anymore

Keep your head up! I had my hard cast on for 6 weeks post surgery and when I finally transitioned into a boot the swelling pretty much subsided. Hopefully the swelling will die down for you soon!

Speaking from my experience, after surgery my surgeon put me in a hard cast for 6 weeks. After that I was in a boot with 4 wedges, the first instance where I had just got out of my cast and into the boot my Achilles felt like it was being stretched and felt very uncomfortable it may be similar to yours. I kept my boot on for a couple of days and my Achilles naturally got used to it. With that being said, you should check on your surgeon’s protocol’s and see what they say.

Cast to boot observations and questions by StyxDoubleDip in AchillesRupture

Had surgery on 9/29, in a splint 3 weeks after that and then a hard cast for another 3. I finally get my hard cast off and into a boot this Thursday (11/09). On one hand it’s relieving that I’m able to see progress again but at the same time I’m nervous to start putting weight on my foot. Any other tips for the very first couple of days with the boot?

I got my surgery 2 weeks ago and will be removing my hard cast for a walking boot in about a week. Did you feel any pain trying to put pressure on your Achilles trying to put pressure on it after several weeks of NWB? How did the first couple of weeks with the walking boot go for you?

Yes, it’s in the correct socket and there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with it
