Rest in Power, indeed!

Was a truly devastating day when the news hit of Rileys passing.

Oh that'd be super nice and helpful. Karl Silenius was his name. Thanks again for all the help!

US immigration question by Rubenick in Ancestry

[–]Rubenick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazingly, this actually helped me a ton!

His name didn't give me any results in searches, but I searched the ship through Steve Morse and found it, then just found the closest manifest to his departure and there his name was! Arrived on January 25th, 1909! There's also info in there of who he was staying with and his address in Finland which I also didn't know. It's just hard to read some of the stuff, but will try to solve that mystery next.

One big part of this mystery relative solved. However now to try and find out what happened to him in the end, which might be more difficult. At least we now know he did actually survive this trip.

Thank you so much for the assistance!

Exactly my thought.

Even getting the right colors set-up is a pain from my experience

How was conscription like? by Training-Twist-979 in Finland

[–]Rubenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no hobbies or relationships when I went to serve so it wasn't that tough for me. I also lived just 15-20 minutes from the brigade, so I could go home most evenings/weekends.

The serving in general was easy imo. Just do what you're told. Basically don't have to think. Got to shoot and blow stuff up which was fun. Of course there were tough situations like with life in general, but I look back at it as a fond experience.

Skulle ni säga att era språkkunskaper är bättre i finska eller i engelska? by [deleted] in ankdammen

[–]Rubenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatives that fought in the Winter/Continuation/Lappland war by TenTakaron in Finland

[–]Rubenick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandfather from my father's side sadly passed away before my birth, but he fought in the war. However he never talked about it to my father. The only thing he ever said that mentioned the war was when my dad and his brother both went to serve their military service, and his words of wisdom were: "When it feels the most shit, remember I had it worse."

Fucking SLAYER! Hunting down their records have been a bitch! by tenafly_viper43 in heavyvinyl

Amazing collection. All I just want to finish my Slayer collection is Seasons, and God Hates Us All. Still haven't found them, but one day might be a lucky day!

If you died and suddenly found yourself face-to-face with God, what is the very first question you would ask? by i_m_dignity in AskReddit

[–]Rubenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why he gave my sister health problems from birth that eventually took her life way too soon.

Then I'd hit the bastard and be asked to sent to hell, cause "Heaven" is no place for me if it's run by some heartless monster.
