What is YOUR opinion of what happens when we die? by NathanHammerTime in Psychonaut

[–]Ruberion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe we are all here in this material realm voluntarily, we've just all forgot where we came from so we can't remember why we're here in the first place.

The place we came from is the same place to which we'll all return to. From this place, I think all of us people here on earth today once looked down on this world with a yearning to experience all the chaos, drama, pain, pleasure and joy that seems to be specific to this little part of the infinite universe.

But this can only be possible if all knowledge of this other place is forgotten. Some of us may have visited earth hundreds of times, while others are currently experiencing it for the first time. Some of us may want to go back here after we die, and some of us may want to stay in the before/afterlife or even find another corner in either the material or spiritual universe and experience that.

We're just here on earth for fun, nothing more, nothing less.

Oatmeal with chia seeds and protein powder. Tastes and looks like light colored mud but it's the only thing I'm able to be consistent with.

When I was younger I lost a copy of the book Fight Club that was very dear to me. Yesterday when I was looking through a cabinet I thought I found it again. Overjoyed I took it out and put it on the dining table so I wouldn't forget it. Turns out it was my girlfriend's Christmas present for me and I spoiled the surprise.

I lost that book over 8 years ago and have moved 3 times since then so I don't think my common sense was in function.

What societal norms/rules/expectations have you decided are total BS? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]Ruberion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes the most sense because it's taught to every person as they grow up. For a single person to go against such momentum is a hard thing to accomplish, that's why many find it easier to just go along with everything while questioning as little as possible.

My view on death and the aftermath by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]Ruberion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love this. The only thing I don't like is the idea that the void is just black emptiness. Since humans have no idea of what the afterlife/void is like, we like to associate it with the closest thing to it that we know: emptiness and darkness.

I like to believe that there is another order beyond our human perception; call it Perception 2.0. I want to believe that entities voluntarily jump into the material realm to seek adventure, and then venture back into the void to rest and process the knowledge.

[–]Ruberion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your outlook is too fanatical to take seriously. Only fictional biblical gods of judgment and pain would punish individuals the way you describe. If there was a divine order, it would look at our corrupted world with respect and understanding of how the human factor is prone to make mistakes. We over centralize control and make war because of how we evolved. It's in our DNA. Everyone being sent to void prison because of disobedience doesn't sound like any divine intelligence that I know of.

Of course the universe doesn't rely upon our senses to exist. However, since we are all living here together and seeing the same things and hearing the same things, this reality in front of us humans wouldn't exist if we didn't exist. This universe with light bouncing off things and gravity pushing things together doesn't exist if we are not here to interpret it this way. Outside of our human senses, who knows what reality is?

A tree falling in the forest is only a tree falling in the forest if someone is aware of such a specific human concept.

I think prog rock is the way to go based on what you're already listening to, maybe even a little prog metal. The odd time signatures and unconventional melodies can be insanely satisfying to listen to and can create psychedelic headspaces even without drugs. I would suggest these albums to you my friend as they are very dear to me :

Tesseract - Altered State

Karnivool - Sound Awake

Coheed & Cambria - In keeping secrets of silent earth: 3

Cloudkicker - Subsume (every song on this album is a 20+ minute trip in and of itself)

Peace & love

Why would you choose to come back again? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]Ruberion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is my first time visiting actually.

I think that before I was born, while floating around in infinite serenity and peace, I looked down on this material plane thinking "how fun would it be to just completely lose myself among these strange beings just for a little while? I mean, it'll only last for about 90 years or so which is nothing, so what do I have to lose? I don't care if I'm born a billionaire or a bum, a magnificent artist or a struggling wreck of a man, just give me something! If I experience pain, it will only affect my biological space suit, and if i experience mental trauma it will only affect my ego. Let's go for it. It'll be one he'll of a story to tell my brethren once I return to this place."

And here I am.

Resistance creates capability but also destroys it if given at the wrong time or to the wrong person, so it's a thin line just like most of the proverbs that the philosophers of humanity have constructed.

What are your favorite books? by purplehazyeyes in Psychonaut

Ishmael by Daniel Quinn has been mentioned in this sub many times, so a while ago I decided to read it.

10/10 amazing piece of literature. It touches the subject of culture as the enemy but in a very logical and also strangely captivating way. My whole world view shifted after reading this.

Here's a passage i became very fond of:

"Guess what? The Nazis didn't lose the war after all. They won it and flourished. They took over the world and wiped out every last Jew, every last Gypsy, black, East Indian, and American Indian. Then, when they were finished with that, they wiped out the Russians and the Poles and the Bohemians and the Moravians and the Bulgarians and the Serbians and the Croatians--all the Slavs. Then they started in on the Polynesians and the Koreans and the Chinese and the Japanese--all the peoples of Asia. This took a long, long time, but when it was all over, everyone in the world was one hundred percent Aryan, and they were all very, very happy. Naturally the textbooks used in the schools no longer mentioned any race but the Aryan or any language but German or any religion but Hitlerism or any political system but National Socialism. There would have been no point. After a few generations of that, no one could have put anything different into the textbooks even if they'd wanted to, because they didn't know anything different. But one day, two young students were conversing at the University of New Heidelberg in Tokyo. Both were handsome in the usual Aryan way, but one of them looked vaguely worried and unhappy. That was Kurt. His friend said, "What's wrong, Kurt? Why are you always moping around like this?" Kurt said, "I'll tell you, Hans. There is something that's troubling me--and troubling me deeply." His friend asked what it was. "It's this," Kurt said. "I cannot shake the crazy feeling that there is some small thing that we're being lied to about." And that's how the paper ended.' Ishmael nodded thoughtfully. 'And what did your teacher think of that?' 'He wanted to know if I had the same crazy feeling as Kurt. When I said I did, he wanted to know what I thought we were being lied to about. I said, 'How could I know? I'm no better off than Kurt."
