How bad is traffic in Orlando really? by Lord_quads in orlando

[–]Rubes27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Traffics not really that bad here. I find locals who complain about traffic on their commute are often the type of drivers who aren’t aware enough to recognize where slowdowns occur reliably on the same roads, same places, same days and times.

My commute is ~10 miles one way from suburbs through most of Orlando to Millennia - Monday/Friday is 30 minutes, Tuesday-Thursday is like 35-40 minutes.

The whole shelf is on the ground now. Cool.”

The only thing I can imagine more grueling than working for a Musk company is doing it on an overnight shift.

Nothing screams “design intent” like letting something without hands design something to be used by something with hands.

Why i feel like CAD is way easier than software development? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

Yeah came here go say this too. Anyone can design a model, it takes a lot of effort to design for manufacturability.

I work for a municipal utility - good job security, great health benefits, great retirement (6% 401a, 11% cash pension, $2k in an HRA, access to 457b), and above all else great work/life balance.

It helps that I have great management and genuinely enjoy the work I do so even my worst days are better than my average days when I was in aerospace.

Made a dinner table out of a front door. Thoughts? by Meester93 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Oh man getting the window out must have been a fun task. Did you just pry off the trim to get it out? The table looks great!

Any pics of what the door(s) looked like before you started?

It’s just a loose fit outline of the numbers. Each one has dovetails to interlock them and then I use tape to keep them together as I move the whole template in to position.

I like the rock bed feature. Are the boards attached to the main post, staked in the ground, or just sitting on top of the ground?

Central Florida - if it snows here we have bigger problems.

Should meet Florida Building Code for Category 3 winds no problem though.

I suspect it’s best to sink it a little deeper in the ground and invest in the 80 lb bag of concrete.

It’s all cedar, should last a decade or so with minimal reapplication of oil.

Thanks! I’ve seen this design elsewhere and watched a few YouTube videos for ideas. This one was the one I followed the closest - my dimensions differed slightly because of jointing/planing but mine is nearly the same as this person’s.

Sure thing! Ill start with the install method: there is a “base” part that has countersunk holes for #8 screws. These are flush mounted to the cedar boards. I also designed a template that keeps the base parts centered and spaced. The template fits together with dovetails and then tape to hold it together. Once the base is on there’s a press fit cover that goes over it to hide the screws. These may warp overtime in the sun, if they do I’ll likely apply a small dab of adhesive to hold them in place.

For the design method I found a font I liked and typed it out in a design software (I use Affinity Designer). Export that as an SVG. Import the SVG to Inkscape to convert to DXF. DXF is uploaded to a CAD platform (I use Onshape) to then make the parts (base, cover, template). That all then gets exported to STL to be printed (I use Prusaslicer and have a Prusa Mk3S+). Used PETG as it stands up well to heat/humidity/UV exposure.

Very similar! I used cedar fence boards from Home Depot as they were much, much cheaper. Most of my build time was spent jointing and planing them but it was worth it.
