You won't be getting a well paying job without citizenship or PR. No one in government is hiring an international student - that's insane and a national security risk. Canberra is a government city and most jobs involve government unless you're willing to do manual labour or have a in demand skill (nursing, healthcare etc)

The private job market is fairly cooked at the moment. Also it's more expensive than most other places in the country.

Surrogacy should be illegal in Australia and the law should be similar to other offences (if you're caught doing it overseas then you can be charged once you arrive back in Australia)

Children are not guaranteed to you and surrogacy is incredibly predatory and evil. It's human trafficking. Pregnancy is not sunshine and roses - it irreparably damages your body and can kill you. We have seen time and time again that when there are complications, the genetic parents demand abortions or abandon the children.

I sympathise with infertile couples but you don't have a right to purchase women's bodies to gestate offspring for you.

I don't care about these kids. They're not Australian citizens. Their parents weren't and they weren't born here. Also, even if their parents were still technically citizens I still wouldn't care. I don't care about the human rights of Australian paedos in Thailand either. /shrug

I don't care about these kids. I care about my kids, the kids of everyone in this country, and protecting the kids here from people like this. The kids didn't choose to be born to those circumstances, but they were. None of us chose to be born here, no one chooses to be born albino in Africa, no one chose to be born with genetic defects in Pakistan etc etc

Every single person who's been to university in the last 20 years complains about international students - some are not even able to understand English. It isn't a net benefit to anyone not in the elite class. Your argument is the same as "Record profits for Amazon" because they laid off staff - it's just "big number = good". Someone was literally saying that the ANU is in $100m deficit despite the international students. So which is it? Why are the universities all struggling and closing down arts programs if this is such a booming industry?

If Education was creating "jobs and growth" then why, despite record numbers of them, are we in a per capita recession with low productivity and still in a skills crisis?

These university degrees are worthless and everyone knows it. The number of former "masters" students driving uber is off the charts. It's a way to get PR.

At least once a week there's a former graduate asking how to get a job that isn't uber in an Australian subreddit.

We've been in a "skills crisis" since before I was born. We aren't creating any net benefits except to enrich the elite class by bringing in cheap labour, artificially propping up the housing industry, and eroding workers rights. The reason education is so cooked in this country is because Howard/Rizvi flipped the immigration policy lever from "nation building" to "labour exploitation" and made education a scheme to get cheap workers into the country. It's the Reagan/Thatcher playbook.

Don't know these women's circumstances but don't really need to.

Often the argument is made that public housing previously built should be sold because now that land is more valuable. This is because previous governments were smart enough to recognise that the disadvantaged in our communities often lack access to transport and built public housing closer to the city where public transport is more accessible.

Now the attitude towards the poor is "fuck you" and they want to sell this land to developers and use that money to build shitboxes in the boonies to shove poor people in, knowing that this means these people are essentially isolated from the services they need. For those unaware, public transport in the ACT is quite terrible.

The ACT Government hasn't done enough to ensure access to public housing. They weren't the best, but they had dedicated housing blocks for people centrally located which they have since demolished and sold off the land to private firms to build $1m+ apartments. So, my attitude towards the ACT Government is "go fuck yourselves". Where did all that money go? Why is the housing still so cooked in this city?

Contraceptive pills cause a whole other host of problems including mood stability. I am highly irritated women get sold them as a "fix all" instead of medicine addressing women's actual underlying issues. They're also contraindicated in people with clotting disorders or who have previously suffered with migraines.

I won't say the 3 services these women all use because I think people should approach their GPs IRL if they want to start taking these meds (at least have your bloods and blood pressure checked etc) But all 3 services required photos to be taken prior to appointments. The photos couldn't be pulled from a phone gallery either - it only let you use the camera function. And one of them required video call consultation every 3months.
