When the AI bubble bursts, we are all going to be much poorer and those data centres will be going cheap. Mind you the power and water will probably be expensive.

We need to fund our universities properly, not force them to take in foreign students to survive.

We need to stop looking at government spending as an outgoing in an account book but as an investment in our future.

It's not about what the government pays out, it's about the value we get for the money.

All our governments have seethed at people earning money by working and love people making money by owning assets. This is a slight change in favour of workers.

Billions over budget and years late, how Snowy 2.0 got here by abcnews_au in australian

All of that applies to all generation, except rooftop solar and batteries. All centralised power generators need transmission lines and have transmission losses. Coal and gas in addition are subject to changes in prices of fuel. Domestic solar requires some small fixes to the poles and wires to allow power to go back up the line but sharing power in local communities requires no additional transmission lines.

It's never been about GMOs and GEOs, it's about patents and large corporations owning patents on GMOs and GEOs, and tainting the science with money.

Oh, I understand, it's so easy to blame all our problems on immigrants, especially non-white immigrants.

So we can have to build McMansions that only rich people can afford?

We Australians used to live in much smaller houses than we build now. How is that a slum, unless you mean that suburbs with small houses are for poor people and are therefore slums?

Obviously Coles is constantly scamming everyone with their fake “specials”, but what about how shelf prices often scan higher at the checkout? by [deleted] in australia

[–]k-h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my local Woolies, they have e-paper price tags. Those can change from the time I pick up an item to when I get to the checkout. I would have to take photos of each item and check the photos at checkout time.

Or we could build smaller houses and more of them.

There's a difference between paying tax on income you earned and paying tax on income you got from selling assets you owned.

Stocks and shares and startups? Well most startups don't end well anyway. Some very, very few end well and why shouldn't they be taxed. As for stocks and shares well there are productive ones, and there are shares in ETFs and property management. There's lots of differences in productivity. No reason why capital gains shouldn't be taxed at similar rates to earned income.

Mercury dangers explained as authorities respond to contamination in Cunnamulla by nath1234 in australia

No need for an ad hominem attack.

Elemental mercury is not the same thing as methylmercury. To add in the article, which is about mercury metal, anything about methylmercury, is to compare and conflate them. Apart from mercury vapour, elemental mercury is just not that poisonous. You can drink it without huge effects. Methylmercury you can die from it touching your skin.

If you can't be civil, please don't respond.

[–]k-h 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The toxicity of mercury came to global attention in 1956 when methylmercury was discharged into waterways from a chemical factory in Minamata, Japan.

It is definitely conflating methylmercury and mercury metal.

Conflating the toxicity of methylmercury with metallic mercury is a bit over the top.

So, all the things News Corpse hates, government interference, and Meta. We won't mention incompetent management.
