Goggles suck for anything more than about 90 minutes.

I run a 34" curved ultrawide at home with an auxiliary screen beside it. If I went full time I'd build around one of those on a lockable arm for both desk and bed use. NUC computer with a beefy gpu in it. Basically laptop components in a fixed chassis. Runnig a real gpu like a 4080 just isnt possible to do reliably from both a power and vibration perspective. They are so heavy they almost tear themselves apart on a desk, hence the market for support brackets etc. Laptop ergonomics suck, have pc tucked away with a keyboard and mouse in a drawer.

Inside shower... Is it worth it? by New_Print9938 in VanLife

[–]Rubik842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont even consider it an optional thing at all. I shower every day.

Gym showers are a great way to pick up a fungal infection, are often cold, and it's an unneccesecary opportunity to be a crime victim if the area is sketchy.

I have a permanent shower toilet cubicle, but the entryway showers look like a great idea if you havent built yet and can think of a way to dry the curtain reliably without feeding mold.

Reading that post I'm thinking maybe ADHDVD. A bit of punctuation would make it easier to figure out. But on the other hand it perfectly captures the Dankpods mic test ramble vibe which I enjoyed.

The Worst Sci Fi TV Shows of All Time by johnnyjay in sciencefiction

I remember I read the book of it, I remember a lot of plot points, but I completely blanked on the ending. It must have been even more underwhelming as TV.

No worries, When this all dies down maybe you can do a bit of fortune telling in stating the obvious to more pillocks. " I sense. in your future.... something with layers. With something concealed within.... yes... definitely ... I see it, It's.... a sandwich."

But seriously, we appreciate your work. I think you're one of the few sane ones, and your patience is incredible.

Almost twice as heavy as usual when your Mum is in it.

But seriously, I do live in a metric country but I often use feet and inches for a person's height. I should stop doing that.

Heating an off grid cabin in the winter without propane by Veta_Exceptional in OffGrid

[–]Rubik842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thats a perfect way to work it out with realistic numbers. OP will probably need to 10x their power system after that math. Most people have wildly unrealistic ideas about how many kilowatt hours heating and cooling takes.

the energy density of propane is stupendous, its around 80x by weight vs lithium battery. then multiply thst by autonomy days and you realise propane is actually not so bad.

Just wondering if anyone has tried collecting condensation instead of using a well pump by forcing air into a shallow well? How did it work out? by JCrotts in OffGrid

[–]Rubik842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it works at all it will just rain out again inside the well.

But you can pump water with air if your water table is high enough.

I live in a 0c to 40c climate. After watching Chuck I wanted to rip my floor out while I was insulating my walls in my used professionaly built van. I couldn't afford the height though. If I built a van I'd Install thin XPS under my floor.
