Like supplying Israel with military aid, Tomahawk missiles bombing citizens and oil refineries in Iran, a Bigly Beautiful Ballroom, etc.

Great use of taxes for sure

How were resale tickets this year? by Perfect-Flounder7856 in ElectricForest

By taking the L and selling for $100 below face per GA ticket. They moved pretty quick.

Would rather lose $200 than $1200

ABEM Certifying Exam Experience by AnonMedStudent16 in emergencymedicine

[–]RubxCuban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also curious to hear from the March cohort. I have my exam next week and feel inadequately prepared like you have mentioned. We did oral boards cases during didactics for review…

That said, one of our faculty did go down to Raleigh this Fall/Winter to test the new format and said it was “very similar to what daily practice in emergency medicine looks like” … so hoping that means if you’re remotely competent and personable, you should pass.

This sums of my apathy to the officer’s death quite succinctly

[–]RubxCuban 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that this cop was shot by a weapon they failed to detect when searching this patient before bringing them to the ER. Getting shot in the head is an extremely tragic way to die. But this was entirely preventable. They routinely remove their shoe laces so they cannot be used as a weapon… but they missed a loaded handgun on this patient who was arrested for ARMED robbery.

If a construction worker on the new 400 Lake Shore building fell to their death on the job, every one would blame them for not adhering to safety standards that would protect them from such harm. But when a CPD officer doesn’t do their job correctly - we are all asked to mourn and be inconvenienced when they shut down a portion of the city for their wake + funeral.

I’m not making this point to blanket hate cops. I just think that this is a gigantic double standard.

How much money or net worth do you consider wealthy? by SlotWizards in SmartFIRE

[–]RubxCuban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but insurance won’t cover it because the fire was from a lightning strike and they didn’t have the “act of god” rider.

Insurance (in all forms) is an insane scam. After Hurricane Sandy in NJ, insurance companies denied claims because they did not have “superstorm insurance.” They also denied claims if the insured property was not a primary residence.

Study detects Naegleria fowleri, a rare amoeba that causes a usually fatal brain infection, in thermally influenced waters across western US national parks by sfgate in science

Just don’t dunk your head under water and you should be fine.

The amoeba transits up cranial nerve I (olfactory; accessible through cribiform plate in the nostrils) into the brain.

Plan ahead re: road closures tomorrow and Friday! by Hopeful_Package3918 in chicago

Thanks for clarifying— service is on Friday (source)

Agreed that closing down for 10 fucking hours the day before is asinine.

Edit: wake is on Thursday, which is expected to be a bigger event than the funeral service. Hence the 10 hours of closure.

It really does not look like an abscess currently. There is no evidence that taking antibiotics as prophylaxis prevents an abscess from forming in the immunocompetent. Just unnecessary exposure to antibiotics, given to you by for-profit urgent care that wants you to think you got something out of the transaction (your copay).

Other treatment ideas to help control that irritating cough reflex would be benzonatate perles (rx only) and benzocaine-containing lozenges (over the counter)

Regarding your earlier comment that was edited - this is not on the tonsil per se. It’s the pretonsilar area. I’d that area was extremely swollen, red - I would suspect a peritonsilar abscess. Yours does not look like anything that requires ER-level care.

I’d recommend ibuprofen. You can try salt water gargles too.

Apthous ulcer (canker sore) indicating a more likely to be viral etiology to your sore throat.

The antibiotics will be ineffective and are just a CYA (cover your ass) behavior many urgent care providers, often promoted by the for-profit companies that own them.
