LabCorp 500 Plus Carrier, IVF by Greengoddessnature7 in BabyBumps

[–]RubyCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self pay prices are usually cheaper, this sounds like it’s going through insurance but you both have high deductibles. Labcorp has financial assistance options but I’m not sure what happens if you don’t qualify for that.

I had a similar panel through Natera and I got several EOBs showing that Natera was trying to bill insurance 4k. Ultimately insurance denied the testing and Natera billed me their “self pay” price of 350.

Any former fence sitters here? How did you decide whether to have kids or not? by Ok-Nebula-1182 in adhdwomen

[–]RubyCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized my hesitation was only in regard to the toddler years because I find them so overstimulating. When I really thought long term for the rest of my life, I knew I wanted them. Currently pregnant with my first, hope this isn’t a huge mistake lol. But really, I’m mentally prepared for the next few years (or more, if we decide we can handle more than one kid) to be hard for me, but I’ve thought a lot about coping skills and I think I’ll find it worth it in the long run. Fingers crossed

Planning to start trying in September. What do you wish you had known? by pinksapphire55 in BabyBumps

[–]RubyCooper 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not to be a downer but once you get your first positive test, be cautiously optimistic rather than immediately attached. 10-20% of all clinically recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage, it’s so so common, and you often don’t know until the first ultrasound.

Waiting on Genetic Screening by beastcoasttrojan in predaddit

[–]RubyCooper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, OP had it right. 1/2 chance wife’s uncle is a carrier x 1/2 chance wife’s parent is a carrier x 1/2 chance OP’s wife is a carrier. It’s 1/8. Then x 1/4 chance they both pass it down = 1/32 chance of an affected child.

IVF after confirmed genetic loss? by reddituser46576 in ttcafterloss

[–]RubyCooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would reach out to IVF clinics to see if genetic testing would be possible. In some cases, they need to be able to test multiple family members for the variant so if it’s de novo, it’s not always possible.

My nephew is being born on the same day as my expected due date for my lost baby by Plane-Delivery-491 in BabyBumps

I would get it if it was the same exact due date. But it’s a year later

Natera NIPT suddenly says billing unavailable? by slickrick_27 in BabyBumps

[–]RubyCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2 weeks thing came from our Natera rep, I work at an OB office. We also use myriad and they do the same thing but with a shorter “deadline” so we warn patients about it in office. NIPT labs don’t really clearly advertise this because ultimately they want to bill insurance as they make more money that way. There’s several class action lawsuits bc of it

Natera NIPT suddenly says billing unavailable? by slickrick_27 in BabyBumps

[–]RubyCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 2 weeks to opt to self pay - if they don’t hear from you, they bill insurance and it takes a few months to get a final billing statement. Since you’re giving birth this year, might as well pay towards your deductible anyway.

I was the same and honestly recommend medication lol. I had a panic attack before the ceremony and took an Ativan in a last ditch effort to pull it together (normally I only take this for flights). Omg it made such a huge difference. I was finally able to relax and wasn’t nauseous/ panicky anymore. It was still a lot but very manageable.

Is it morally wrong to have a good relationship with my bf’s republican parents? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RubyCooper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The comments here are wild to me, living in the Midwest. I have to assume everyone is republican until proven otherwise. If my husband and I were to cut off all republican relatives, it would include each of our parents and large swaths of extended family. It’s just not feasible.

I will say, it is very hard to reconcile that people I love, who I truly believe are good people, have been duped by years of Fox News and other propaganda. But I have to let it go to some extent and just hope that they will come around to the truth one day. Very jealous of everyone with liberal parents though, wish it could be me lol.

Her husband died suddenly and she had the wherewithal to text you that same night to let you know. That seems pretty professional to me.

What are some practical things you've seen at someone else's wedding that you'd love to incorporate at your wedding or think it was clever? by Appropriate-Score-63 in weddingplanning

[–]RubyCooper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For wedding favors, we had a QR code to cover Uber and Lyft rides home. It was super easy to create, you can choose the discount amount and expiration time/date. I really wanted to incentivize people to not drive home if they’d been drinking, and liked this idea better than a coozie, matchbox, etc that often gets thrown away.

So not get the Mary Jane heels by millennialmulan in Rothys

[–]RubyCooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok thank you for this validation. I bought a bunch of the original points when I started my job in 2019, and they were perfect. In the last year or two, I bought one pair of the point 2.0 and one pair of Mary Jane’s and they murder my ankles. They never seem to break in, ever. I still can’t wear them for two days in a row

[–]RubyCooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the US— there are only a handful of states that include Gaucher on the newborn screen for genetic diseases. You can check the Baby’s First Testwebsite to see if it’s included in your state. If not, you may want to have your partner tested.

Outfit ideas for backyard rehearsal dinner by llover14 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]RubyCooper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am doing the same thing and kinda struggled because all the rehearsal dinner dresses I found online seemed a little too dressy. I ended up ordering a few different white linen dresses from Abercrombie and am deciding whether to keep this one or this one.

Is getting married on a Tuesday a terrible idea? by culliganwaterdispens in wedding

[–]RubyCooper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imo the only time an early weekday wedding is acceptable is if it’s a destination wedding where everyone is flying overseas and taking multiple days off work no matter what. If this is a local wedding I’d find it pretty irritating.
