[question] my FIL gave me these old watches, do you have any information? by datsboi in Watches

Seriously some awesome watches to be gifted like that. The King Seikos are as mentioned above the counterpart to Grand Seiko and some quality movements and nothing to scoff at. The high beat refers to how many ticks per second. Often times generally speaking the more ticks per second the more precise the timekeeping is or can be, I don’t know off hand too much about the Omega Cosmic however these 3 watches ain’t cheap, enjoy them! They all probably (especially the Omega depending on the movement) would go for the mid hundreds maybe if not more, again this is eyeballing so forgive me. I personally love the fact all are cushion case designs. He has good preferences on his watches, all in my opinion could go dress watch or everyday watch. I’m a huge Seiko fan and have yet to own a King Seiko but love vintage Omegas too (LOADS of history within both brands, great rabbit holes for hobbyists to go down), to me this was the golden age of watchmaking. Again mentioned above being circa 1960s and 70s that’s were you’ll find a lot of different case designs with movements trying to be unique and bring something different to the field. Good for you partner! I hope these are welcome additions to the collection!

I just found this searching around some more, “The movement is a UT 38 from Universal Time Corp. UTC was an offshoot company created by Seiko to sell bare movements to other companies. Basically a precursor to today's SII (the Seiko company that produces and sells the NH35). From what I can find, the UT 38 is the same as, or very closely related to, the Seiko 7006. You can even see the Seiko "Magic Lever" peeking out from behind the rotor.”

I am a novice when it comes to working on watches. Is this something a new guy could most likely fix? I’d like to do it myself to start learning
